Therefore let us leave the elementary
teachings about Christ and go on to
maturity, not laying again the
foundation of repentance from acts
that lead to death, and of faith in God,
instruction about baptisms, the laying
on of hands, the resurrection of the
dead, and eternal judgment.
And God permitting, we will do so.

1. Death isn’t the end of life. There is an afterlife. Souls live on.
2. Every soul will live forever, either in comfort or in agony.
3. Though Jesus raised the dead to life, those people still died.
4. Enoch is the first of only a few to not physically die.

her, "Your brother will rise again." 24 Martha

her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who
believes in me will live, even though he dies;
26 and Whoever lives and believes in me will
never die. Do you believe this?" 27 "Yes, Lord,"

Matthew 27:51-53:At that moment the curtain
of the temple was torn in two from top to
bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and
the tombs broke open. The bodies of many
holy people who had died were raised to life.
They came out of the tombs after Jesus'
resurrection and went into the holy city and
appeared to many people.

first person mentioned in the
Bible as someone who didn't
die, but was directly taken
into the presence of God.

Genesis 5:18-24 When Jared had lived 162 years,
he became the father of Enoch. And after he
became the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800
years and had other sons and daughters.
Altogether, Jared lived 962 years, and then he
died. When Enoch had lived 65 years, he
became the father of Methuselah. And after
he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch
walked with God 300 years and had other sons
and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived 365
years. Enoch walked with God; then he was
no more, because God took him away.

A5: The Bible talks about just
two kinds of places, but uses
various names: Sheol, the Pit,
the Abyss, Darkness, or Hell
and Abraham's Bosom,
Paradise, or Heaven.

fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a
beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat

and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up
and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he

because I am in agony in this fire.’ "But Abraham replied, 'Son,
remember that in your lifetime you received your good things,
while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here
and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a
great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from
here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
"He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my
father's house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so
that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ "Abraham
replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to
them.’ " 'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the
dead goes to them, they will repent.’ "He said to him, 'If they do
not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced
even if someone rises from the dead.'"

A6: Probably not. The Bible seems to
have a temporary place, where
people wait until the final
judgment day, and a permanent
place, where people will spend all
of eternity. Both places have two
separate areas, though-a beautiful
place and a terrible place.

Matthew 25:31-46 "When the Son of Man comes in his
glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his
throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be
gathered before him, and he will separate the people
one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep
from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and
the goats on his left. "Then the King will say to those
on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father;
take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you
since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and
you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you
gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you
invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I
was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and
you came to visit me.' "Then the righteous will answer
him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,
or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did
we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing
clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in
prison and go to visit you?’

you did for one of the least of these brothers of
mine, you did for me.' "Then he will say to those
on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed,
into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his
angels. For I was hungry and you gave me
nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me
nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not
invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not
clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did
not look after me.' "They also will answer, 'Lord,
when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a
stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison,
and did not help you?' "He will reply, 'I tell you
the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the
least of these, you did not do for me.' "Then they

parables, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is
like a king who prepared a wedding banquet
for his son. He sent his servants to those who
had been invited to the banquet to tell them to
come, but they refused to come.

since they are children of the resurrection. But
in the account of the bush, even Moses
showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord
'the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob.' He is not the God of
the dead, but of the living, for to him all are
alive."

A9: Once, Moses and Elijah visited
for a short time. Then, of course,
Jesus died, came back to life,
and told us a few things. Later,
the apostle John had many
visions of Heaven and the future.
R9: Matthew 17:1-9; John 20:19-20; Revelation 4:2-11
Matthew 17:1-9 After 6 days Jesus took with him Peter,
James and John the brother of James, and led them
up a high mountain by themselves. There he was
transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun,
and his clothes became as white as the light. Just
then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah,
talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is
good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up 3
shelters— 1 for you, 1 for Moses and 1 for Elijah."
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped
them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son,
whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to
him!" When the disciples heard this, they fell
facedown to the ground, terrified. But Jesus came
and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be
afraid." When they looked up, they saw no one except
Jesus. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus
instructed them, "Don't tell anyone what you have
seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the
dead.
(After Jesus had died, was buried and rose
again,)
John 20:19-20 On the evening of that first day of
the week, when the disciples were together,
with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus
came and stood among them and said, "Peace
be with you!" After he said this, he showed
them his hands and side. The disciples were
overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
Revelation 4:2-7 At once I was in the Spirit, and there
before me was a throne in heaven with someone
sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the
appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow,
resembling an emerald, encircled the throne.
Surrounding the throne were 24 other thrones, and
seated on them were 24 elders. They were dressed
in white and had crowns of gold on their heads.
From the throne came flashes of lightning,
rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne,
7 lamps were blazing. These are the 7 spirits of God.
Also before the throne there was what looked like a
sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the center, around
the throne, were 4 living creatures, and they were
covered with eyes, in front and in back. The first
living creature was like a lion, the second was like
an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth
was like a flying eagle.
Revelation 4:8-11 Each of the 4 living creatures
had 6 wings and was covered with eyes all
around, even under his wings. Day and night
they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the
Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to
come." Whenever the living creatures give
glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the
throne and who lives for ever and ever, the 24
elders fall down before him who sits on the
throne, and worship him who lives for ever and
ever. They lay their crowns before the throne
and say: "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to
receive glory and honor and power, for you
created all things, and by your will they were
created and have their being."

A10: First, it will be
destroyed by fire. Then
there will be a new earth
and a new heaven.
R10: II Peter 3:9-13 and Revelation 21:1-5
II Peter 3:9-13 The Lord is not slow in keeping his
promise, as some understand slowness. He is
patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but
everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the
Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will
disappear with a roar; the elements will be
destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it
will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed
in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?
You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look
forward to the day of God and speed its coming.
That day will bring about the destruction of the
heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the
heat. But in keeping with his promise we are
looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth,
the home of righteousness.
Revelation 21:1-5 Then I saw a new heaven and a
new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth
had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming
down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride
beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a
loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the
dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with
them. They will be his people, and God himself will
be with them and be their God. He will wipe every
tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or
mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of
things has passed away." He who was seated on
the throne said, "I am making everything new!"
Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are
trustworthy and true."

A11: Jesus gave many answers to
this question, but basically,
those who overcome the world
by believing every word of Jesus
Christ, having been truly born
again, as demonstrated by their
love for God and their
neighbors, will live forever.
R11: John 3:3-6,16; Matthew 25:31-40; Revelation 21:7
John 3:3-6 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the
truth, no one can see the kingdom of God
unless he is born again." "How can a man be
born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked.
"Surely he cannot enter a second time into his
mother's womb to be born!" Jesus answered, "I
tell you the truth, no one can enter the
kingdom of God unless he is born of water and
the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the
Spirit gives birth to spirit.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he
gave his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal
life.
Matthew 25:32-40 All the nations will be gathered

Foundation Stone #11: Resurrected Bodies

Hebrews 6:1-3 (NIV) Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. Though Jesus raised the dead to life, those people still died. 4. Enoch is the first of only a few to not physically die. 5. There are a variety of names for the 2 places of afterlife. 6. After death, there is a time of waiting for Judgment Day. 7. The Bible mentions afterlife activities – feasting, singing, ... 8. Jesus said there are some differences with the afterlife. 9. Some people have returned from the dead temporarily. 10. A new heaven and new earth will be the new home. 11. Entering heaven is for those who are reborn and obey Jesus. 12.
