- [Title Slide] Today the topic is TIBCO BusinessEvents and 10 best practices for monitoring its performance so that you can identify developing problems based on real-time performance trends, displayed with historical context rapidly pinpoint the source of errors, and recover as quickly as possible In other words, predict and prevent incidents and protect your company from embarrassing outages.
- [Introduction to Krithika] Before we jump right into the best practices, I’d first like to welcome Krithika Balagurnathan, Sr. Product Manager for TIBCO BusinessEvents at TIBCO Software so that she can share a few words about the importance of monitoring the health and performance of your BusinessEvents environment. Welcome Krithika Thanks David and thanks for inviting me to be part of your webinar. I’ve been with TIBCO since 2008 and I spend the first 7 years out in the field working with customers and helping them deploy complex event processing solutions using TIBCO BusinessEvents and for the last year, I’ve been managing the product itself.
- [why it’s important to monitor BusinessEvents] BE is used in high-value applications performance is expected to be real-time often dealing in large data volume for instance, Transportation & Logistics Banking & Financial Services Retail/Loyalty Telecom and more… If Complex Event Processing is the key to the Two-Second Advantage, then it’s import that you avoid or at least respond quickly to performance degradations so that you are not faced with a painful and expensive service outage
- Safely Sharing – external teams have read-only access to data related to their application/platform – eliminate the risk - A great deal of time is often lost due to poor communication during high-stress times – especially true when trying to understand the cause of failure – this wasted time means that corrective action is delayed a common “source of truth” reduces the confusion surrounding Sev 1 incidents, different teams can look at the same information, at the same time, in the same format and – hopefully – draw the same conclusions.
- Being able to get the right alerts to the right team is important – but you want to have quick access to all the alerts in the environment – the problem you are seeing in BE may often be attributable to upstream or downstream systems. Ask Charles to run exercisor and set alerts for preso If Alerting is high maintenance then it is often left as ‘global’ Centralized alerting means changing one copy of the rule and having this same rule applied to all systems in the domain without the need for replication. Centralized alerting means no stress on the host systems But also need to be flexible – you also need to be able to set alerts for high-visibility or highly-sensitive systems to get an early heads-up
- Backing store – persistence and reliability It’s embarrassing, in 2015, to have problems because you have run out of disk space or if you loose connectivity to the external storage array
