Editor's Notes

  • #2 I was asked to create a presentation that would demonstrate my choice of topics to cover if I were given the opportunity to provide a short 10 minute information literacy session to a small group of new graduate students in the Statistics and Actuarial department as part of a larger seminar series during their fall graduate studies orientation.
  • #3 1. Branding – presentation would be branded in keeping with the library standards however, since I am unaware of these standards, I decided to use the colour scheme found on the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science web pages.2. Session is conducted right at the beginning of the fall term so students are not working on anything yet. This means there would be little value in "teaching" them something that they don't need to use yet3. So,I decided that I would approach this as a promotional activity in the form of an orientation session With the purpose of creating awareness of library resources and services3. To do this I would create a presentation based on the following learning objectives:Students will be able to recognize the library websiteStudents will become aware of library help & instructionStudents will become aware of library services for graduate studentsStudents will become aware of library resources for their research areaStudents will be able to contact the liaison librarianNote: If I were conducting this session, in addition to creating the presentation, I would also create a lesson plan.To demonstrate my presentation of these topics I now ask that you please pretend for the next 10 minutes that you are the small group of graduate students attending the session
