Here are some key points about the RAFT strategy:
- ROLE - Who is your narrator/speaker? Friend, expert, etc. Helps connect to readers.
- AUDIENCE - Who is your intended reader? Peers, teachers, etc. Tailor content for their interests/knowledge.
- FORMAT - What format best suits the topic? Letter, poem, article, etc. Format shapes how info is presented.
- TOPIC - Central subject or idea being explored. Clarifies purpose and focus of the writing.
The RAFT strategy helps writers consider perspective, audience, structure and subject matter to engage readers. Choosing elements for each category defines the writing task.
