Advertising is to advertise a image that best sells a product.
This is used in things like food such as McDonalds, kfc, nandos
and other food industry’s to show people the types of food
they sell and attract people to buy it.
Promotional photography is similar to advertising although it
is used to advertise things associated with people like, events,
bands and football teams.
These are often heavily edited to make it look the best it can
so with food they will make it all be put together to perfection
but in reality when you buy one it will look thrown together
and sloppy artificial light will be used often to give it a better
effect.

The lens depends on the type of things you are advertising
so for a car you might use a wide lens as it is a large object
where as for something like food you would use a
telephoto lens to capture it up close.

as he is posed and it is taken to create the right photo to

The first image is observation and candid because it is
supposed to represent he is a person going about his
daily business but it is staged to make it look like its just
a random guy when it is actually advertising the clothing

Lighting could potentially be artificial using lamps to
create the best lighting on the top photo to get it perfect
to display the clothing, but it is in a natural environment
outside so therefore could potentially be ambient light
the second image has been taken in a small studio style
environment with a white background. Having the white
background will make the light bound around naturally
and give of a lot of ambient light but there would still
probably be some staged lights to make sure they get it
lighting up the right parts of the product.

Does post production take place? Explain why, alongside
your justification
Yes post production does take place as the image was
taken as tomatoes stacked up like the bottle and through
Photoshop is was masked to make it appear to look like
the Heinz bottle with the labels on. Tools on Photoshop
were probably used to get rid of patches and marks on
the tomatoes so that they didn’t look horrible and put
people off. The burn tool was probably used to add more
shadowing to the image and the shadow of the actual
bottle where as the use of the dodge tool is most likely
used to lighten the side in which the light is hitting the
bottle.

photographing cars as seen above although he has a passion

Disadvantages of using this style is it does catch your
eye but not as much as other products out there that

I like the way the image is crisp and clean, it is a
simple image but very affective in the way these

It will usually be displayed through magazines, online clothes
websites, billboards and large print outs in store. A lot of
editing is used in fashion photography and lots of artificial
lighting as clothing adverts and shoots the potential places
these photos could be taken would be a set that reflects the
clothing so if it was clothing for a younger audience they
could set it in some urban styled set. Or the photos could just
be taken in a basic set with a background that contrasts on
the thing they are wearing. So if the model was wearing black
or dark colour a light background would be chosen.

A wide lens could be used for the first photo A portrait lens or
medium telephoto lens would be used to take most of the
photos as it would capture the clothing in more detail for the
people that would like to see its little details.
The image because if it hadn't captures this detail people
might be put of it because they might not like the detail when
they get to see it up close.
Capture the full body so everyone can see everything that is
worn in the outfit and how it fits.
It is very classy and adds some sophistication to the image.

This image is controlled and manipulated the model
is clearly posed in this street and that way it is
manipulated is how it looks like it has some sort of
filter on top as you can see that the sky is dark from
the top. Burn tools would probably have been used
to darken the trees and background objects.
This image is observational as the model is clearly
posing for the image but is taken to try and look
candid as if the person is going about his daily
business.

This image has clearly used artificial lighting as the
photo is taken in a studio and it gets a clear shadow
on the white background, this was most likely done
on purpose to give the photo more character and to
give a contrast between the model.

lighting was natural as it is taken in a environment

Yes post production is taken place it looks like it has a dark
faint yellow filter on top and the way they have added a glare
at the back of the model has drawn all the attention to the
model and the clothing that is being sold and advertised.
Tools like dodge could have been used to add a glow to his
face to yet again draw the audience attention to the main
focal point of the image.
Other photographers have used this style to create images for
the same type of thing, this would be for fashion.

shown through these to advertise these products.
It shows of the clothes in the best way to attract the
audience in and make them want to buy them to

Sometimes the models in the photo can be famous

follow their trend.
The disadvantage of photographing in this style is it
people might prefer to see clothes on people which
are more normal and not manipulated to look
imperfect.
I like the way the photographer chose a

because then any stories can be altered and false information

your justification
No I don’t think this would incorporate post production as it is
a news article and people find it wrong to change and
manipulate images because it would give off false information
to readers and viewers.
I think this would be the same through all photojournalism as
people would have the same views that if it was manipulated
it would be changing the story and be fake and wrong.

Other photographers have used similar styles to display
images of photojournalism or even for portrait images to
make them look candid.
Henri Cartier Bresson was born on August 22, 1908 in
Chanteloup, France. He Is a big name in photojournalism and
has covered big stories such as the Spanish civil war and the
French uprisings.

to a story that is being told.

have been cropped down just to have the geometric
shapes on display rather than concentrating on the

to the brightness or saturation to bring the colours out.
The second image in the bottom left looks like the sky
could have been manipulated to make it look more
appealing and attractive it also could have been put in by
sky replacement. In this image contrast and levels could
have also been used as well as sharpening to bring out the
shades of colours and black and whites to giving some
range to the building and more detail.

artificial lighting to create shading of the man in the
background on to the white backdrop. I don’t think he tried to
focus the lighting on the woman at the front and tried to keep
it natural.

Yes post production does take place to manipulate this image
to the right to make it sharper and to make all the colours in
the image stronger and stand out more. Other things have
potentially been done is burning in shadows on the trees the
same tool would be used to add a darkness to the clouds and
lighten certain parts of it. There will also so be use of some
tool to enhance the reflection of the image in the lake. It
makes the image more eye catching.
Other photographers have used this style to create a calm and
relaxed feel to the photo when people look at it.
Charlie Waite, born in 1949 is a British landscape
photographer. He is a well known photographer around he
world publishing 30 books on his unique style of photography
which people describe as ‘painterly’ because of his use of
light and shade and delicate colours found in his work.
Very edited as a lot goes into it to create the perfect photo,
some images may start of as a dull shot with no life to it
which nobody would enjoy seeing but once manipulated the
image comes to life and sets of a bunch of moods.

You can add your own little touch and personal adjustments
that no other photographer could have used this makes you
totally unique and more appealing to potential audiences.
You can make a living through this style of work like I just said
if someone likes your work a lot and it is different they are
likely to be someone who wants to buy it.
The disadvantages are that if your style really doesn’t appeal
to anyone then you are going to have a hard time selling it
and making a living from it.
If you are going to do indoor fine art then you are more than
likely going to need a really big studio which could potentially
be a very big expense if you are making no money in the first
pace, this is why more and more fine art photographers and
high street studio photographers are turning garages or
unused rooms into studios.
I really like his image because It is just a ordinary forest but
they have over edited the image to give it this gloomy dying
haunted forest with a nice contrast between the bright green
grass/moss and the black and grey surroundings.

Documentary photography can be seen in multiple different
category's these are usually displayed in a number and
sequence of photos. You will usually see this is
photojournalism as they would use the style to display a
period of something happening. Also documenting events, so
this could be mainly seen in books and magazines relating to
this like national geographic or historic books.

capturing real emotion between the three men.
This image I think is both candid and observational as the
photographer hasn’t manipulated anything that is happening
in the image.

Natural lighting would have been the only lighting the
photographer used for this image as he is out of his studio
and artificial lighting would be hard to provide also you can
just tell it is natural because the image is actually quite dimly
lit.

Yes I think a slight bit of post production could take place to
Make the images sharper and aesthetical things just to make
the image look better but I don’t think they would fully
manipulate the images to look like how they would want as
these images are very often used for photo journalism and
people want to see the real images.

These images could appear in historic museums and historic
books is could also be seen through news pages or papers as
they are often used for photo journalism.
You have the option to photograph indoors and outdoors for
your work depending on what you are based around you also
get to travel the world and see lots of things and experience
new things as you go.
You also get to see a real image that can tell you a lot.
Weather could be a big disadvantage as although you have
the choice a lot of things you are most likely going to be
taking images of will be outside. Is can also be time
consuming and sometimes a waste of time if you don’t get
the image you were aiming to get.
I like this image because it gives a good contrast of the
moods people in these living conditions feel as you can see
someone really happy and then someone else n the
background who looks upset.
