This document provides a summary of Exodus 7-10 from a church sermon. It discusses how God sent 10 plagues against Egypt through Moses and Aaron to convince Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. Each plague targeted an Egyptian god to demonstrate God's power. It examines the symbolism of the plagues and Pharaoh's hardened heart. The sermon looks at how Satan imitates God's powers but cannot match His true authority and glory. It closes by emphasizing the need to discern truth from deception and find salvation through Jesus Christ alone.

7. Let My People Go!
When Israel was in Egypt's land
Let my people go
Oppressed so hard they could not stand
Let my people go
Refrain:
Go down, Moses
Way down in Egypt's land
Tell old Pharaoh
Let my people go

9. Introduction to Exodus 7-10
• God calls Moses at age 80 to lead the enslaved Israelites
out of Egypt.
• Pharaoh does not want to lose his workforce.
• God will use signs and plagues to show His power to Israel
and Pharaoh.
• There is significant meaning to each detail and plague in
Israel’s journey to the Promised Land.
10. Exodus 7:1-2 ESV
1 And the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have made you like
God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your
prophet. 2 You shall speak all that I command you, and
your brother Aaron shall tell Pharaoh to let the people
of Israel go out of his land.
11. Exodus 7:3-4
3 But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I
multiply my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt,
4 Pharaoh will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand
on Egypt and bring my hosts, my people the children of
Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great acts of
judgment.
12. Exodus 7:5-7
5 The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I
stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring out the
people of Israel from among them.” 6 Moses and Aaron
did so; they did just as the Lord commanded them.
7 Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-
three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.
13. Exodus 7:8-10
8 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 9 “When
Pharaoh says to you, ‘Prove yourselves by working a
miracle,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff
and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a
serpent.’” 10 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and
did just as the Lord commanded. Aaron cast down his
staff before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a
serpent.
14. Exodus 7:11-13
11 Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the
sorcerers, and they, the magicians of Egypt, also did the
same by their secret arts. 12 For each man cast down his
staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron's staff
swallowed up their staffs. 13 Still Pharaoh's heart was
hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord
had said.
15. Pharaoh’s hardened heart (Exodus 4-14)
20 references to Pharaoh’s resistance to Moses’
message.
- 10 times it says Pharaoh hardened his own heart.
- 10 times it says that God hardened his heart.
- Why did God harden Pharaoh’s heart?
- Is this fair to Pharaoh?
16. New Testament Explanation of Pharaoh’s Hard
Heart
Romans 9:14-16
14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's
part? By no means! 15 For he says to Moses, “I will have
mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have
compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it
depends not on human will or exertion, but on God,
who has mercy.
17. God has sovereign freedom in dealing with
man
Romans 9:17-18
17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very
purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my
power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed
in all the earth.” 18 So then he has mercy on whomever
he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.
18. The Difficulty in Understanding the
Sovereignty of God
•God knows in advance what choices we will make.
•God does not live in the constraints of time as we do.
•God gives man “free will” or the ability to make a
choice.
•God holds man accountable for his choices.
•God used Pharaoh’s refusal and hard heart to show
His awesome power and authority to Egypt and Israel.
19. The Symbolism of Exodus
•Conflict of Good and Evil.
•Foreshadowing of the tribulation and the battle at the
end of time (Armageddon).
•Egypt – Model of the world.
•Pharaoh – Model of Satan.
•Moses – Model of God (Jesus).
20. The Staff of Aaron Turning into a Snake
•The “magicians” had satanic powers to turn inanimate
objects into living creatures.
•This was not just a magic trick.
•2 Timothy 3:8-9
8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these
men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and
disqualified regarding the faith. 9 But they will not get
very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that
of those two men.
21. The “magicians” use satanic powers
•Satan can only imitate God’s powers.
•Satan’s techniques are to create a counterfeit.
•The magicians could use the power to perform the
sign, but did not have mastery or authority over it.
•Magicians could not turn the snake back into a staff.
•God’s snake (staff) consumed the magician’s snakes
(staffs).
22. The 10 Plagues in Egypt: Exodus 7:14-12:30
•All plagues are related to “gods of Egypt”.
•Pharaoh was considered to be a god.
•The Egyptian gods were idols of the creation around
them – sun, river, water, crops, animals, weather, etc.
•Exodus 5:2
2 But Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should
obey his voice and let Israel go? I do not know the
Lord, and moreover, I will not let Israel go.”
23. The Purposes of the Plagues
•Demonstrate the power of God.
•Demonstrate God’s wrath.
•Judgment on Egyptian gods.
•Warning to the nations – Genesis 12:3.
•Protecting Israel and delivering them from slavery –
Deuteronomy 4:32-40.
24. 1. The Plague of Blood – Exodus 7:14-24
Egyptian gods: Apis, Isis, Khnum
•Moses and Aaron turn the Nile River (life source) and
all standing water into blood.
•All fish die, no drinking water from the Nile and it
stinks.
•The Egyptians dug wells for water and the magicians
were able to turn that water to blood.
•Note: The magicians could not reverse the process.
25. 2. The Plague of Frogs – Exodus 8:1-15
Egyptian god: Heqet (goddess of birth)
•Frogs were thought to be sacred and not to be killed.
•Frogs came out of the Nile and into houses and were a
nuisance.
•The magicians also made frogs come out of the Nile.
•Pharaoh asks Moses to remove the frogs and God
caused the frogs on land to die.
•Dead frogs are piled high and stank.
26. 3. The Plague of Lice (Gnats) – Exodus 8:16-19
The Egyptian god: Set, the god of the desert
•No warning given to Pharaoh.
•Egyptian priests had a compulsion about cleanliness
and shaved their bodies.
•Lice infestation prevented priests from worship of
their gods.
•Magicians could not duplicate or help and declared,
“This is the finger of God.”
27. 4. The Plague of Flies – Exodus 8:20-32
The Egyptian god: Uatchit, the fly god
•The swarms of flies did not bother the Israelites in
Goshen.
•Those “biting horse flies”.
•Pharaoh agreed that Israel could go a short distance
away to worship, but changes his mind after the flies
leave.
28. 5. The Plague of Death of Livestock – Exodus 9:1-7
The Egyptian gods: Hathor & Apis (cattle)
•This plague affected the Egyptians only.
•All livestock – cattle, horses, donkeys, sheep, goats,
camels.
•Pharaoh is unrelenting in his refusal to allow Israel to
leave.
•This is a great economical loss for Egypt.
29. 6. The Plague of Boils – Exodus 9:8-12
The Egyptian gods: Sekhmet, Sunu, Isis
•This plague was against the gods of health and
disease.
•Moses and Aaron threw soot from a furnace into the
air – possibly from the altars of human sacrifice.
•Boils – painful skin eruptions on man and animals.
•The magicians could not walk or stand up because of
the boils on the feet and legs.
•Did not affect the Israelites.
30. The Last 3 Plagues Came With A Warning from
God
Exodus 9:14-17
14 For this time I will send all my plagues on you yourself, and
on your servants and your people, so that you may know
that there is none like me in all the earth. 15 For by now I
could have put out my hand and struck you and your people
with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the
earth. 16 But for this purpose I have raised you up, to show
you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the
earth. 17 You are still exalting yourself against my people and
will not let them go.
31. 7. The Plague of Hail & Fire – Exodus 9:13-35
The Egyptian gods: Nut, Osiris, Set
•A warning was given and some Egyptians heeded it.
•The Israelites were protected again.
•A massive hail storm with fire running along the
ground.
•The growing crops were destroyed.
•Pharaoh continues to refuse with a hardened heart.
32. Exodus 10:1-2
1 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I
have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants,
that I may show these signs of mine among them, 2 and
that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your
grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians
and what signs I have done among them, that you may
know that I am the Lord.”
33. 8. The Plague of Locusts – Exodus 10:1-20
The Egyptian gods: Nut, Osiris, Set
• An east wind brings swarms of locusts that consumed all
remaining crops and trees
• Exodus 10:18-20
18 So he went out from Pharaoh and pleaded with the Lord.
19 And the Lord turned the wind into a very strong west
wind, which lifted the locusts and drove them into the Red
Sea. Not a single locust was left in all the country of Egypt.
20 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not
let the people of Israel go.
34. 9. The Plague of Darkness – Exodus 10:21-29
The Egyptian god – Re (sun god Pharaoh)
• 3 days of darkness except in Goshen.
• A darkness that could be felt (presence of evil and pending
plague of death).
• This plague addresses the highest god of Egypt.
• Exodus 10:27-29
27 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not
let them go. 28 Then Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from
me; take care never to see my face again, for on the day
you see my face you shall die.” 29 Moses said, “As you say! I
will not see your face again.”

36. Parallels of Prophecy in Exodus & Revelation
•Revelation 11:3-6 Two witnesses modeled after Moses
and Elijah have power to turn water to blood &
plagues.
•Revelation 13:1-18 The enemies of God perform
miracles.
•Revelation 8:1-13 Water to blood; hail & fire on earth.
•Revelation 9:1-21 Locusts, Hardened hearts.
•Revelation 16:4-7 Water to blood; boils; evil spirits
look like frogs.
37. Closing Thoughts from Exodus 7-10
•The power of Satan, in any form, cannot match the
power of God.
•Satan uses imitation and counterfeits to help him
appear as the real thing.
•Satan’s goal is not direct confrontation, but imitation.
•Satan will not use his name directly because it would
be quickly rejected.
38. How can we tell the difference?
•False doctrine usually has something socially
acceptable in it, and often appears as sound doctrine.
•Even good things can be a masked of Satan – love,
tolerance, acceptance, benevolence, etc.
•If the glory is given to anything or anybody other than
Jesus, it is from Satan.
39. Test the Spirits
1 John 4:1-3
1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits
to see whether they are from God, for many false
prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you
know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that
Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and
every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God.
This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was
coming and now is in the world already.
40. They wear disguises
2 Corinthians 11:12-15
12 And what I am doing I will continue to do, in order to
undermine the claim of those who would like to claim that in
their boasted mission they work on the same terms as we
do. 13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen,
disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 And no
wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves
as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to
their deeds.
41. Warnings
2 Timothy 4:3-4
3 For the time is coming when people will not endure
sound teaching, but having itching ears they will
accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own
passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the
truth and wander off into myths. 5 As for you, always be
sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an
evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
42. Jesus gives signs of the end of the Age
Matthew 24:11
11 “And many false prophets will arise and lead many
astray.”
•The goal of Satan is to lead man astray and away from
the saving power of Jesus.

44. The Plan of Hope & Salvation:
John 3:16
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that
whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal
life.”
John 14:6
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.”
45. The Plan of Hope & Salvation:
Romans 3:23
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23a
23a For the wages of sin is death,
• Death in this life (the first death) is 100%.
• Even Jesus, the only one who doesn’t deserve death, died in this life
to pay the penalty for our sin.
• The death referred to in Romans 6:23a is the second death
explained in Revelation 21:8.
46. The Plan of Hope & Salvation:
Revelation 21:8
8 “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for
murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars,
their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur,
which is the second death.”
Romans 5:8
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
47. The Plan of Hope & Salvation:
Romans 6:23b
23b but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Revelation 21:7
7 “The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his
God and he will be my son.”
• Romans 10:9-10 explains to us how to be conquers.
48. The Plan of Hope & Salvation:
Romans 10:9-10
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is
justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Romans 10:13
13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be
saved.”
