SURAH AN-NAZI’AT (THOSE WHO DRAG FORTH)
MECCAN PERIOD
Division: 369
1-5By the gravitation in the universe, the thrust in the universe,
stars; galaxies; the Sun, the Moon and their orbital movement around their own
axes and around the star they orbit, formation of the night and the day, conditions
suitable for life, the tides, the night and the day, and the seasons as a consequence,
formation of the conditions suitable for all kinds of living creatures and plants
to survive that
and by the Ayat of the Qur’an which;
impose a constant distress, depression and guilt upon those who consciously
deny the Divinity of Allah and the fact that He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer];
is easy upon the believers and facilitates their affairs, gives good tidings to
them, makes them happy;
is conveyed from hand to hand, through words and hearts; always prevails;
make people pay attention; arranges all affairs, personal and social; sets forth
commands, prohibitions and principles for every affair;320 that,
26surely, there is a lesson for those who are in awe with respect and love to
their Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] when “those who will
observe what his two powers/wealth and acquaintances will offer to him/face his
deeds on the Day and the infidels; those who consciously deny the Divinity of Allah
and the fact that He is Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] will
say, ‘If only I was a piece of soil’”.321
(81/79; An-Nazi’at/1-5, 26)
Division: 370
10,11They say: “Shall we be returned to our former state? After we are
decomposed into bones?”.
12They say: “Then, this is indeed an evil return”.

27-33Are you or the Heavens is harder in creation? Allah created the Heavens;
He raised its ceiling, then He organized it, made its night dark and extracted its light.
And then He extended the Earth for you and your beasts to benefit/He caused His
water and grass to emerge from the ground, and He fixed the mountains/placed them
firmly.
6On that day, that which shakes will shake.
7And a second tremor will ensue.
8On that day, hearts will beat in fear.
9Their eyes will stare with respect.
13It indeed will be a single shout.
14And then you will see them gathered on the ground.
34And when the greatest calamity arrives,
35On that day, the mankind will know what they have done.
36Jahannah [Hell] will be clearly visible for those who are able to see.
37-39And as for each transgressor who preferred the simple worldly life;
Jahannah will surely be their final destination.
40,41And as for those who fear the authority of their Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher,
the Nurturer, the Sustainer] and forbid themselves from vain-transitory desires;
Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] will surely be their shelter.
(81/79; An-Nazi’at/10-12, 27-33, 6-9, 13-14, 34-41)
Division: 371
42They ask you about the moment of Qiyamat [Resurrection]; when will it cast
its anchor?
43What knowledge is with you to tell them about it?
44The final decision belongs only to your Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the
Nurturer, the Sustainer].
45You are nothing but a warner for those who are in awe for the moment of
Qiyamat [Resurrection] with respect, love and knowledge.
3
46On the day when they shall see it, they shall be like as though they have
remained in the world for an evening or a late morning.
(81/79; An-Nazi’at/42-46)

15Have you heard about the story of Moses?
16,17When his Rabb [Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] called
him in the holy valley of Tuwa/the twice cleaned valley: “Go to the Pharaoh! He has
surely been transgressing”.
18,19Then say: “Would you purify yourself? Let me guide you to your Rabb
[Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] so you may be in awe against Him
with respect, love and knowledge!”.
20Then, Moses showed the Pharaoh the greatest evidence/sign.
21-24Then, the Pharaoh denied him and resisted. Then he turned away. Then he
gathered his subordinates and said to them: “I am the greatest Rabb [Lord, the
Cherisher, the Nurturer, the Sustainer] of yours!”.
25Then, Allah seized him with the wrath of the Earth and Akhirat [Afterlife].
(81-79; An-Nazi’at/15-25)
320 The literal meaning of the Ayah is as follows: “By those who pull as if soaking into
water/soaking; those who pull without forcing and those who swim away; and those who get ahead
and do a trick, that”. We used the metaphorical meaning.
321We rearranged the Ayat of the Surah An-Nazi’at in the Official Mushaf differently due to
technical reasons and semantics.
