Kabul: The leader of the resistance movement in
Afghanistan’s Panjshir Valley on Monday called for
a “national uprising” against the Taliban. In an audio
message sent to media, National Resistance Front
commander Ahmad Massoud said: “Wherever you
are, inside or outside, I call on you to begin a national
uprising for the dignity, freedom and prosperity of our
country.” The Taliban published a video of their flag be-
ing raised over the governor’s house in Panjshir.

Kota: A 24-year-old army jawan ended his life by
hanging himself from a tree on Monday in the
Ramganjmandi area of Kota. The deceased, Pappu
Lal Yadav, of Kumaon Regiment was posted in
Dehradun and had come to his village on a 20-day
leave. Yadav’s fiancee had died by suicide two days
ago. He was depressed after this. He also posted a
status on WhatsApp which read, “Jaya, if you are
not there, I will also not be there.” SHO Rajendra
Meena said that the probe is on.
Bharatpur: BJP leader Om Mathur went to Bharatpur
to meet the family members of former minister late
Digambar Singh and expressed condolences on the
death of Singh’s wife Asha Singh. Mathur consoled
Singh’s son Shailesh Singh. He met BJP leaders and
stayed at Singh’s residence for more than 30 minutes.
Mathur said that Singh was a leader of a clean image.
“He fulfilled any kind of responsibility he was given and
even today people remember his style of working.” He
said that after Singh’s death, his wife was very active

mega kisan mahapanchayat
in Muzaffarnagar on Sunday
was not just proof of that but
it was also a warning that if
the issue is not resolved be-
fore the UP and Uttarakhand
elections, the governments
will have to pay electorally.
Rakesh Tikait couldn’t have
put it more bluntly when he
warned that his “Mission UP,
Uttarakhand” will be extend-
ed to include the Central gov-
ernment too. The Bharatiya
Kisan Union president gave a
rallying call to change the
system to save the country.
More specifically, though, he
described the rally as a show
of strength against the BJP
government in UP where
farmers are facing “hard-
ships”. “Electricity rates are
the highest, while sugarcane
rates have not gone up since
2016. The Centre has in-
creased cane FRP by Rs 5, a
mere five paise hike per kg,”
Tikait is leart to have said.
Tikait has been resolute in
his stand on the repeal of the
three farm laws and has stat-
ed that he will not settle for
anything less. When the gov-
ernment tried to malign him
by calling the farmers’ agita-
tion as politically sponsored
he broke down and vowed to
carry on the protest come
what may. That one incident
and also the lathi-charge on
protesters by the UP police in
the middle of the night in-
fused fresh energy into the
agitation.

innings of 70 years -

which no batsman is

where he made his ‘debut’ in
journalism - among others,
till his indisposition,
subsequent hospitalisation,
owing to geriatric problems,
and final adieu
t is rightly said that self-made
individuals who know their
path guide themselves —
and, they cannot lose their
way, or goal. This is primar-
ily because the path they love
to tread presents itself below
their feet. The picturesque
boulevard they choose may
just as well twist, or turn,
and impediments would
emerge, all right, but they
continue onwards and up-
wards on their journey

Yet, as my ‘guru,’ M V
Kamath, the doyen of Indian
journalism — whose 100th
birth anniversary falls today
— would always tell the path
one chooses and pursues with
passion and persistence
makes the ‘combatant’ in us
equipped with the instinctive
capacity to complete the voy-
age, howsoever difficult it
may appear to be. The higher
oneclimbs,thebettertheview
from one’s summit in one’s
own ‘mindful’ Mount Everest.
I was in awe of Kamath’s
immense erudition and
learning. I followed his writ-
ings as a budding writer —
with diligence. I got to know
him personally much later,
not only as a seasoned writer,
journalist, editor, author, and
a much-sought-after speaker,
but as a man from my own
backyard — or, hometown. I
met him more than a handful
of times and spoke to him at
length — each time convers-
ing in Kannada, the language
and the cultural backdrop
that connected us. I’d think
of myself as Ekalavya and I’d
often wheedle him as my own
Dronacharya. And, he’d quip,
each time, pronto, “But, Eka-
lavya, without the ‘iniqui-
tous’ portent, because, don’t
you worry, I will never ever
ask for your thumb.”
Such images keep falling
like raindrops on my head, or
rather bald pate — but, what
has left a lasting impression
on my mind and memory is
his serene, gentle, divine
face, the mesmeric twinkle in
his eyes and his perennial
encouraging words for the
writer in me. What made my
day was he would quickly re-
call something I wrote and
tell me he liked it. He was so
unassuming that I was at
ease to converse with him
without feeling edgy. This
was his greatness. This was
something that helped me to
get a good grasp of what each
of us should aspire for —
learning the fundamental
lessons in a voyage called
life, not simply success with
a career option, but under-
standing our higher calling
to work and expanding on
our potential, howsoever
small, big, significant, or in-
significant.
Most importantly, I loved
to hear his riveting anecdotes
from his vast repository, his
remarkable media experi-
ence — glimpses from the
times past. He’d recall events
like a computer accessing
files from the hard disk — in
a flash — be it tales from his
‘beat’ as a reporter, his post-
ings in Bonn, Washington, or
elsewhere, including some
amusing ‘real-time’ yarn, or
strands, traced and pulled
from Patagonia, in a jiffy, or
compelling details of Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru’s vitriolic
temper to utter calm in an
instant, or the once friendly
and later standoffish Indira
Gandhi. His insuperable rep-
ertoire and the power of be-
ing a lively raconteur would
construct fragments into
their full identity and mean-
ing — something that led one
to a deeper level of knowl-
edge, long before the Internet
became a way of life.

tial, wordsmith would be
stating the obvious — pri-
marily because he cuddled
not just the full spectrum of
chronicling politics and our
human canvas, but he also
opened up a whole new vista
of transformed, as also diver-
gent, constructs. There won’t
be another like him again.

In Punjab, the controversy between Chief
Minister Captain Amarinder Singh vs State Presi-
dent Navjot Singh Sidhu refuses to end. Swords
have come out between the two and in-charge
Harish Rawat is also getting injured in the duel. On
the other hand, the dispute between Chief Minister
Bhupesh Baghel and Health Minister TS Singhdeo
in Chhattisgarh is not getting resolved. Both are
engaged in a show of strength. A cold war is going on between former
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and
state president DK Shivakumar. The fight
is not going on openly because in the past
the party high command has said that the
2023 assembly elections will not be fought on
anyone’s name i.e. the party will not declare its
Chief Ministerial candidate.
Thereis a fight in Haryana and Bhupinder Singh
Hooda wants the party to contest the elections with him being
declared as the CM candidate. But Randeep Surjewala, Kiran
Chaudhary, Kumari Selja and Captain Ajay Yadav are not ready to
accept it in any way. If this dispute is not resolved, the end result will
be the split of the Congress.
On the other hand, there is no Congress state
committee in Gujarat for two years and for
several months now, the state president and the
leader of the legislature party have resigned, but
the Congress is unable to take a decision.
In Kerala, supporters of old leaders - Oommen Chandy and Ramesh
Chennithala - have opened a front against Rahul Gandhi’s elected state
president K Sudhakaran and new legislature party leader VD Satishan.
14 new district presidents were appointed in the state, against which
there was a huge controversy. As a result, a general secretary and a for-
mer MLA have been suspended, a district president has resigned and a
secretary has been expelled from the party. These four leaders belonged
to the Chandy and Chennithala camps.
There is peace in Rajasthan but beneath the
surface, the dispute between Chief Minister
Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot is not over
and all eyes are on the cabinet expansion
in the state. Apart from these three states,
there is a ruckus within the Congress in
other states of the country as well.

time of Atal Bihari Vaj-
payee, there was a coor-
dination committee of
NDA. Tyagi said that if

committee, then both
the parties can discuss
the issues on which
their opinions do not

violence in WB, detained
6 people on Monday for

New Delhi: SC on Monday refused to entertain a
petition seeking appropriate directions and orders
to the authorities concerned for rescheduling or
deferring the NEET UG- 21. A bench of the apex
court, headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar, refused
to interfere with a petition filed seeking directions
to the authorities concerned for rescheduling NEET
UG- 21. “We are not inclined to pass any order. Sor-
ry. You (the petitioner) may approach and make your
representation to Competent Authorities with your
prayers, reliefs you seek,” Justice Khanwilkar said.

New Delhi: The SC on Monday refused to hear a
plea filed by residents of Sonipat in Haryana, facing
difficulties due to Singhu border being blocked by
farmers asked them to approach the Punjab and
Haryana HC for relief. “There is no need for us to
intervene when High Courts are well versed with the
local conditions and what is happening. We should
trust High Court,” said a Bench headed by Justice
DY Chandrachud. As the apex court said it would not
hear the case, it suggested the petitioner’s counsel
to approach the HC. The plea was withdrawn later.

doses are still available with the States/UTs to be adminis-

HC seeks factual report on
actress’ FB account hacking
The Rajasthan HC has called for a factual
report from the police in the matter of
uploading obscene photos by hacking the FB
page of Telugu film actress Kriti Garg, a Jaipur
resident. Her FB page was hacked by cyber
criminals on June 23 and her father Sanjay
Garg filed a report at Vidyadhar Nagar police
station on July 12. The matter was reported
to Facebook but no action was taken. Even
when the police did not take any action,
he approached the Rajasthan HC through
Advocate Poonam Chand Bhandari and
Kajal Sharma. Justice Manoj Vyas
ordered the police to present a full
factual report on September 13,
Bhandari said. The hackers have
demanded Rs 60,000.

thority (NTCA) visited the tiger reserve in Kumbhal-
garh sanctuary on Monday. With this, the specula-

Bharatpur: Three people, including two women, died in
a painful accident on Bayana-Basedi road in Bharatpur

two people died during treatment on Monday. Guddu, 25, a
resident of Singhania village of Garhi Bajna police station
area, along with his wife Rani, 20, had gone to Basedi in
Dholpur to show his 28-year-old sister-in-law Gudiya to
a doctor. Late in the night, all three were returning home.

follow-up checkup of
the Chief Minister. The
team of Sawai Man Sin-
gh Medical College and
Hospital stayed at the
CMR for a long time
during which cardiolo-
gists and heart special-
ists examined the Chief
Minister and inquired
about his health. The
blood pressure and
pulse rate of Chief Min-
ister Ashok Gehlot
were also checked.
Apart from Dr Sudhir
Bhandari, Principal of
SMS Medical College,
the team comprised of
12 doctors including

examination, the doc-
tors told the Chief Min-

that many believed was
impossible. Jagat, who

Bharatpur Zila Pramukh
from BJP has managed
not only win the election
but also break into the
opposition securing all
but 9 votes. Out of the
37 votes, Jagat man-
aged to clinch 28, even
though BJP had merely
17 votes in its favour.
The pedigreed politician,

legislator on multiple
occasions as well,
managed to sway 11
Congress and independ-
ent votes in his favour,
as a result, achieving
the feat. For winning the
Bharatpur Zila Pari-

votes were needed but

peror Alauddin Khilji
glimpsed the immensely
beautiful Maharani Pad-
mini through a mirror, the
picturesque beauty of the

tangular shaped mirrors
installed at the interna-
tionally renowned 18th-
century Nawab Saheb Ki
Haveli at Tripoliya Bazar
near City Palace in Jaipur.
Triloki Das Khandelwal,
owner of ‘Nawab Sahab ki
Haveli’ was quite old when
I visited the Haveli and met
him. He enthusiastically
climbed the stairs of the
haveli and took me to the
roof to show a panoramic
view of the pink city
. I wit-
nessed this incredible sight
and spotted about 25 his-
toric monuments and plac-
es of Jaipur through the
two mirrors on the terrace.
In the year 1958, Jaipur’s
renowned Iron ore busi-
nessman Trilokidas Khan-
delwal acquired the haveli
in an auction. The Haveli
has about 50 owners but
the best portion of the
Haveli where Chief Archi-
tect Vidyadhar stayed was
with Khandelwal.
Through his imagina-
tion, Khandelwal installed
two rectangular-shaped
mirrors in 1983 on each
end at Haveli’s terrace.
These mirrors can rotate
90 degrees and one can see
almost every fort and oth-
er archaeological beauties
of Jaipur like Pink City’s
crown Nahargarh Fort,
Gad Ganesh, Jal mahal,
Jantar Mantar, HawaMa-
hal’s front view, Huge cen-
otaph of Chandra Mahal,
Sargasuli, SawaiMansin-
gh Town Hall, Jaigarh
Fort, Albert Hall, Moti
Doongri Ganesh Temple,
and Birla Temple with
other sky-high buildings
of the city. Khandelwal
who died in 2019 opened
this place for tourists. Peo-
ple get a panoramic view
of the city, its colourful
markets, monuments, and
roads with surroundings
of hills, forts, and temples
from this haveli.

In 1987, this Haveli was included as the fifth top
tourist spot of Jaipur in the guide books of the
Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and
Government of Rajasthan. This tallest mansion
located at the heart of the city was constructed in
the 18th century as the abode of Sawai Maha-
raja Jai Singh Ji’s Minister and Chief Architect
Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. Maharaja Sawai Jai
Singh had decided to build Jaipur as the new
capital for Rajasthan. So, the sole reason for
building such a gigantic Haveli in the core of the
city was to oversee the entire construction and
development work of the city from one place.
The haveli passed on from Maharaja Jai Singh to
Maharaja Jagat Singh and from him to Maharaja
Ram Singh II. Then he presented it to his Prime
Minister Nawab Sir Faiz Ali Khan. Khan beautified
the Haveli with big halls and gold paintings. The
Haveli passed on to his descendants and as the
last one, Mohammed Mukarrum did not have any
son, it was again acquired by the Jaipur dynasty.
