This document discusses carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. It describes different carbon capture methods such as pre-combustion, post-combustion, and cryogenic capture. Post-combustion requires large volumes of solvent and can produce toxic byproducts. Pre-combustion has high construction costs and decreased flexibility. The captured carbon is then transported via pipelines and stored geologically. However, CCS projects face economic challenges like a lack of market incentives and need for large storage volumes. While CCS could enable a transition away from fossil fuels, the technology has yet to be widely implemented due to these technical and economic difficulties.
Barry Jones, General Manager - Asia Pacific for the Global CCS Institute, provides an overview of carbon capture and storage technology including its rationale and a summary of current projects. The presentation also examines impediments to its deployment and recommendations for how to overcome them.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas that has been cooled to liquid form for storage or transport. It takes up 600 times less space than gas in its gaseous state. LNG is predominantly methane and is odorless, colorless, non-toxic, and non-corrosive. It can be transported via tankers and re-gasified for distribution as pipeline natural gas. Global LNG demand is expected to continue growing significantly in the coming decades as new supply projects are developed. Bangladesh currently imports LNG through floating storage and regasification units but is also considering developing permanent land-based LNG facilities.
Here are the key steps to take in the event of an LNG spill:
1. Evacuate the area immediately and move upwind. LNG vapors are heavier than air and can accumulate in low-lying areas.
2. Call emergency services and report the spill. Provide details on location, size of spill, and any injuries.
3. Warn others and prevent access to the spill area. Use barricades or barriers if possible.
4. Do not attempt to extinguish a LNG fire unless trained and it is safe to do so. Evacuate immediately instead.
5. Avoid direct contact with spilled LNG as it can cause frostbite or freeze skin/eyes on

Dr. Himadri Banerji presented at the 2nd FSRU Conference in Singapore on risk management in LNG FSRU projects. He discussed key risks including construction delays and cost overruns, operational issues, upstream and downstream market volatility, and political and legal risks. Effective risk allocation and control requires well-defined contracts that allocate risks to parties best able to manage them. Non-recourse project financing is increasingly common through structures that limit risks for terminal operators, such as tolling agreements that transfer supply and market risks. Evolving contract and insurance structures also help manage risks in LNG FSRU projects.
Process Optimization for Small-Scale LNG PlantsShilpa Dubey
This document summarizes optimization considerations for small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants. Nitrogen cycle technology offers overall lower capital expenditures for small-scale LNG compared to single mixed refrigerant cycles. Nitrogen cycles also provide greater simplicity of operation and reduce boil-off gas. There is no single best solution for feed gas pretreatment - the optimal configuration depends on the specific gas composition and project needs. Overall, small-scale LNG plant owners prioritize lower upfront capital costs over minimizing operating expenses.
This presentation discusses a remote tank level monitoring solution for fuel stations and dump sites. The system uses battery-powered, Internet-connected devices to measure and transmit fuel level data from tanks to a central database. Station managers can then access the fuel level and consumption information from any location via a web-based interface. The solution has been successfully installed at multiple sites in Nigeria, providing benefits like optimized ordering and inventory management.
Presentataion Oil&Gas Telecommunications Conference - Radio LInk Project Andrea Vallavanti
The document describes the Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) Toscana offshore LNG terminal located 12 miles off the coast of Livorno, Italy. It discusses the technical details of converting an LNG carrier into an FSRU with a regasification capacity of 3.75 bcm/a. It outlines the challenges of establishing a reliable radio link between the moving FSRU and the onshore base in Livorno to address the FSRU's communication needs. A two-hop radio link solution using Aviat and 4RF equipment was implemented to overcome issues like multipath fading and limited antenna heights. Significant infrastructure upgrades were required on both the FSRU and onshore sites.
