Robert Reid struggled with cerebral palsy throughout his life. Despite his struggles, he did not let his condition define him or hold him back from living fully. With support from his wife Roxa, Robert overcame many challenges. His story demonstrates the power of perseverance and how, with grace, people can overcome obstacles.
The document discusses what it means to be a committed Christian. It begins by examining a passage from John about Jesus being glorified and commanding his disciples to love one another. It then defines a committed Christian as someone who is committed to giving God all glory, loving other believers, and having unwavering loyalty to God. The challenges facing the church today that can undermine commitment are identified as religious pluralism, materialism, and secularism. The document emphasizes that true commitment involves living according to God's commands, not just making promises of loyalty.
The document discusses the spirit of wisdom from God. It begins by explaining that wisdom comes from God and that we should ask for wisdom from Him in faith. True wisdom is pure, peaceful, gentle and merciful. Jesus Christ himself is our wisdom, and in Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom. We must search out these treasures through the Holy Spirit. Having wisdom means making right judgments, words, actions and choices. We should pray as Paul did to have the spirit of wisdom for understanding God.
"Good Seed. Good Ground?" Matthew 13:1-23 Sermon SlideshowDanny Scotton, Jr.
I. Jesus tells a parable about a sower scattering seed. Some seed falls on the path and is eaten by birds, some on rocky ground with little soil, some among thorns which choke it out, and some on good soil which produces a large crop (Matthew 13:1-9).
II. Jesus explains the parable to his disciples - the different soils represent different responses to God's word. Some do not understand and are snatched away, some believe temporarily but fall away in times of trouble, and some are distracted by wealth and worries and do not bear fruit (Matthew 13:10-23).
III. Jesus calls his followers to truly hear and understand his teachings so they can be fruit
The document discusses the topic of prayer. It defines prayer as simply talking to God, like talking to a best friend or father. It says prayer can be done alone, with others, for others, in small or large groups, or as a nation. Prayer can occur anywhere, including in a car, bathroom, church, or outside. Jesus taught his followers the Lord's Prayer as a model for how to pray. The document also provides several Bible verses about prayer and its power.
Mt 13:15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.'
Paul told Timothy that God did not give us a spirit of fear. Why are Christians so fearful. The Bible gives us ample passages to not fear persecutors, skeptics and especially do not fear death! When we have conquered these three fears, nothing can stop us!
The document summarizes the key points from Ephesians 6:10-18 about standing firm in spiritual warfare. It emphasizes that Christians must know their strength comes from God, feel the need to be equipped with God's armor each day, and take action by putting on the full armor of God, which includes truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and God's word. Taking on the full armor enables believers to withstand attacks from the devil and remain standing in their faith.

Spiritual maturity is an important goal for believers to progress toward. It involves a desire to grow, nourishment through studying God's word regularly, and exercise through consistently applying biblical principles. Reaching maturity takes time and patience - believers should not expect to grow overnight or become discouraged by mistakes and rebukes along the journey. Maintaining hunger for righteousness, feeding daily on scripture, and regularly practicing faith are key steps to advancing toward spiritual maturity.
This document contains a sermon given on Mother's Day about honoring one's mother. The key points are:
1) God honors mothers and puts honoring one's mother on the same level as holiness and keeping the Sabbath. Mothers have great responsibility in raising children for God.
2) Children have a responsibility to honor their mothers both in their youth and old age according to God's commands. There are benefits to doing so such as having one's life go well and living long.
3) Jesus set the example of honoring his mother even while on the cross. The church also has a duty to honor older women as mothers.
The sermon exhorts children
Not unlike the effects of today’s Coronavirus, the older generation of Israel in the wilderness were dying. Numbers 20 begins with the death of Miriam (1) and concludes with the death of Aaron (28, 29). If you were to die today, what legacy would you leave? When was the last time you murmured or complained about something associated with COVID-19? What was your complaint? How did your criticism or complaint change you, your relationship with God and those around you? Why did the Lord send “fiery serpents among the people” (21:6)? What was Moses’ response when he heard their complaints and saw God’s judgment? (7) How should we be like Moses? What was the Lord’s response? (8) Why did Jesus compare Himself to Moses’ brazen serpent? (John 3:14-16) Why do many (sadly most) people refuse to look and live? (8)
This document discusses the biblical figures of Noah, Enoch, and their relationship with God. It notes that Noah was a righteous man who walked with God, and that Enoch walked with God for 300 years before being taken by God, having pleased God through his faith. The document suggests that Enoch must have been in agreement with God and had a willingness to conform to God's ways through his faith and trust in God.

James 2:14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?
This is the second sermon in the "Fatihbook" series focusing on the Faith of Abel who offered a righteous sacrifice. This sermon addresses the question of what made Abel's sacrifice superior to Cain's. Was it the sacrifice or something about the sacrificer?
Tit 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
There are several Hebrew and Greek words that describe different types of praise in the Bible. The main Hebrew words are halal (speaking praise), shabach (loud praise), yadah and towdah (lifting hands in praise), barak (kneeling in praise), zamar (instrumental praise), and tehillah (singing praise). The Greek words include agalliao (leaping for joy), proskuneo (reverent worship), and thriambeuo (celebrating victory). All these types of praise honor God in different ways and help believers grow closer to Him.
The document provides an overview of seeking and knowing God's will. It discusses the different types of God's will, including his fulfilled will through Jesus, revealed will found in scripture, and specific will for individual lives. Fulfilling God's revealed will means placing Christ first, loving God, being thankful, making disciples, and living holy lives. Parents have a responsibility to bring up children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Living together as a Christ-centered family allows parents to instruct children according to scripture so they can shine as lights in the world.
What is the relationship between Christ and His disciples? In what ways are we dependent on Him? What are practical lessons to be learned from our Lord's metaphor?
This document discusses the importance of committing children to the Lord and training them in the way they should go according to Proverbs 22:6. It emphasizes directing children towards godliness from a young age through early training that shapes their later life, like bending a twig shapes a tree. Examples are given of Moses and Daniel who were brought up with godly training and remained faithful even when faced with difficult situations later in life. The document also addresses disciplining children with love through habit formation and correcting misbehavior. Parents are encouraged to demonstrate righteous behavior and provide children with tools and skills to make good decisions and choose the right path in life.
1. Noah found favor in God's eyes because he was righteous and walked with God, in contrast to the widespread wickedness and evil of others during that time.
2. To attract God's favor, one must have an intimate relationship with God through faith, manifest God's character as Noah did through integrity even when others were corrupt, and walk according to God's will as Noah tried to conduct his affairs according to God's will.
3. Walking with God through faith, righteousness, and obedience to His will allows one to gain God's approval and receive His divine kindness and blessings.
God's love is described through various types: agape, philia, storge, and eros. Agape refers to sacrificial love, the highest form exemplified by God sending his son Jesus. Philia is brotherly love between friends. Storge describes natural family affection, while eros involves passionate love within marriage. Loving someone means accepting them, prioritizing their happiness, and finding joy in their company. Similarly, God loves humans unconditionally - he forgives sins, accepts people as they are, and finds pleasure in spending time with believers. God's love is measured by his mercy, compassion, forgiveness and righteousness. He wants all people to turn from evil and find peace. True love for God involves keeping
Jude warns his readers about false teachers who have infiltrated the church. These teachers twist God's grace to allow sinful behavior and deny Jesus as Lord. Jude cites three examples from the Old Testament of God's judgment against unbelievers: the unfaithful Israelites in the wilderness, fallen angels who abandoned their proper dwelling, and the corrupt cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Jude urges believers to understand these examples so they can recognize and resist false teachers within the church.

Abraham demonstrated an obedient faith in God through his willingness to sacrifice his son Isaac at God's command. As Abraham prepared to sacrifice Isaac, he saw a ram caught in a nearby thicket that God provided as a substitute. Abraham called that place "The LORD Will Provide." This event revealed Abraham's faith in obeying God exactly as commanded without question and at great personal cost, showing he was a true friend of God.

Jesus teaches that Christians should avoid meaningless or abusive oaths, as truthfulness should come from the sincerity of one's heart rather than any oath. While God instituted oaths and Jesus and Paul took oaths when needed, the focus should be on simply telling the truth in all situations through having a truthful heart, rather than invoking oaths to try to add weight to one's statements. Christians are free to take oaths when properly needed, but the emphasis is on cultivating truthfulness through one's character rather than any verbal formula.

Can India achieve 100GW Solar Power Generation by 2022? Can Rajasthan develop 25GW? An analysis in the light of Solar PV Roadmap, 2014 by IEA
Installed PV capacity worldwide is 135GW by 2013. Approx. 40GW being added every year. The 210 GW of cumulative capacity projected by IEA by 2020 is being achieved five years earlier. This has made IEA come out with a new Solar PV Roadmap, 2014 where the
capacity expected for 2020 will be double of what was foreseen in the 2010 roadmap.
IEA’s analysis is based on a bottom-up TIMES* model that uses cost optimisation to identify least-cost mixes of energy technologies and fuels to meet energy demand, given availability constraints of natural resources. IEA projects that India can achieve 142GW by 2030 in a high renewable scenario and around 575GW by 2050 wherein PV will contribute to 16% of overall energy generated.

The man had been ill for 38 years and was lying by the pool of Bethesda, hoping to be healed. When Jesus saw him, he asked "Do you want to be healed?". The man responded that he had no one to help him into the pool. Jesus then said "Get up, take up your bed, and walk". Immediately the man was healed, took up his bed, and walked. Jesus' instructions removed any possibility of relapse and expected ongoing success from the healing.

The document discusses the importance and principles of hospital visitation from a pastoral care perspective. It provides biblical justification for visiting the sick based on Jesus' example and teachings. Some key reasons include ministering to people as Christ did, upholding the dignity of individuals, and facilitating spiritual growth. Effective hospital visitation requires listening with empathy, speaking words of comfort, and showing love in a way that soothes and encourages patients. Pastoral caregivers must be aware of potential pitfalls like burnout or making patients feel uncomfortable.
1. Living in God's unconditional love is like being healed and able to see freely. It also invites us to share that experience with others.
2. Against prejudices, Jesus proclaims God's boundless gratitude as a loving Father/Mother.
3. Jesus heals a man born blind so that God's works may be revealed, not to judge sin but to bring light to the world.
The document discusses finding hope when life feels out of control and fast-paced. It suggests that speed consumes hope by eroding boundaries, exploding choices, and expressing guilt. To find hope, the document recommends adopting God's rhythm of life by resting on the Sabbath, intentionally feeding your soul, and surrounding yourself with refreshing people and activities. Making time for solitude, breaking routines, and checking out of ordinary life annually can help renew your hope.

Jesus was asking, will you be made wholeGLENN PEASE
This is a study of Jesus asking a man sick of a long time if he wanted to get well. It sounds strange, but the fact is some people want to stay in their non-healed state.
1. The document discusses an alternative understanding of the gospel that focuses on God identifying with human suffering rather than punishing sin.
2. It argues that God did not kill his son, but that evil humans killed Jesus, who was both fully God and fully human. God experienced abandonment and suffering along with Jesus.
3. The conclusion is that many Christians are rediscovering that the original gospel portrayed a loving God, not an angry punisher, and that God understands human pain, having endured extreme suffering himself through the crucifixion.
Every command in the Bible is impossible to keep as God requires. It is truly impossible for anyone to be holy as God is holy, to be perfect even as our Father in heaven is perfect, to love our enemies as God "so loved the world." So, if every command is impossible to keep, why did God command us in the first place? Is it possibly that He wants us to depend on Him, for us to allow His Spirit to work through us?

The father of a boy who was often thrown into fire or water by an evil spirit desperately cries out to Jesus for help, saying "I believe; help my unbelief!". Jesus replies that all things are possible for those who believe. The father recognizes his struggle with doubt and pleads with Jesus to help overcome his weakness of faith. The lesson is to honestly acknowledge one's doubts, start from where you are, and lean on God's grace as you resolve to trust in Jesus despite challenges to one's faith or desire to control outcomes.
Jesus called Levi, a tax collector, to follow him. Levi held a dinner at his house where Jesus and his disciples ate with many tax collectors and sinners. The scribes and Pharisees complained about Jesus associating with such people. Introduction
Mantra Yoga is an exact science. "Mananat trayate iti mantrah- by the Manana (constant thinking or recollection) of which one is protected or is released from the round of births and deaths, is Mantra." That is called Mantra by the meditation (Manana) on which the Jiva or the individual soul attains freedom from sin, enjoyment in heaven and final liberation, and by the aid of which it attains in full the fourfold fruit (Chaturvarga), i.e., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. A Mantra is so called because it is achieved by the mental process.
Lição 12: João 15 a 17 – O Espírito Santo e a Oração Sacerdotal | 2° Trimestr...OmarBarrezueta1
Astronism, Cosmism and Cosmodeism: the space religions espousing the doctrine...Cometan
This lecture created by Brandon Taylorian (aka Cometan) specially for the CESNUR Conference held Bordeaux in June 2024 provides a brief introduction to the legacy of religious and philosophical thought that Astronism emerges from, namely the discourse on transcension started assuredly by the Cosmists in Russia in the mid-to-late nineteenth century and then carried on and developed by Mordecai Nessyahu in Cosmodeism in the twentieth century. Cometan also then provides some detail on his story in founding Astronism in the early twenty-first century from 2013 along with details on the central Astronist doctrine of transcension. Finally, the lecture concludes with some contributions made by space religions and space philosophy and their influences on various cultural facets in art, literature and film.

Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.

3. John 5:1-15
1. Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a
feast of the Jews.
2. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a
pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which
is surrounded by five covered colonnades.
3. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie —
the blind, the lame, the paralyzed - and they waited
for the moving of the waters.
4. From time to time an angel of the Lord would come
down and stir up the waters. The first one into the
pool after each such disturbance would be cured of
whatever disease he had.
4. 5 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-
eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he
had been in this condition for a long time, he asked
him, "Do you want to get well?"
7 "Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me
into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am
trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of
me."
8 Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and
walk."
9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and
walked. The day on which this took place was a
Sabbath,
5. 10 and so the Jews said to the man who had been healed,
"It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your
mat."
11 But he replied, "The man who made me well said to
me, 'Pick up your mat and walk.'"
12 So they asked him, "Who is this fellow who told you to
pick it up and walk?"
13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for
Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.
14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him,
"See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something
worse may happen to you."
15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was
Jesus who had made him well.

b. His Question
Do you want to get well (be made whole)?"
MAN’S REPLY
v7 "Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no
one to help me into the pool when the
water is stirred. While I am trying to
get in, someone else goes down
ahead of me."
Instead of saying YES or NO,
He replied, “I can’t...”
Indirectly it was not his fault ...
19. Do you want to be made whole ?
This man was not only paralyzed physically but ...
he was also paralyzed emotionally, in his spirit ...
After so many long years
he has lost the will , no
more hope ...
Possibly he was very
comfortable where and
how he was...
Possibly he had accepted
his fate...
20. Do you want to be made whole ?
Are anyone of us in the same

Once we were eager, active,

BUT THEN SOMETHING
happened that made us an

fell into ‘sin’ and never
resolved, never forgiven
distracted, side-tracked ...
22. Do you want to be

C. HIS COMMAND
V 8 Then Jesus said
to him,
"GET UP!

No indication of

Just a word, a

The day on which
this took place was

The man still needed

24. Do you want to be made whole ?

same ‘business’ of
commanding people out of their
“paralysis, fears and guilt” ...
“Today if you hear his voice, do
not harden your heart ...”
(Heb 3:7, 15, 4:7)
25. Do you want to be made whole ?
D. EPILOGUE :
1. Man-made Rules
V9b-12 The day on which this took place was a
Sabbath, and so the Jews said to the man who
had been healed, "It is the Sabbath; the law
forbids you to carry your mat."
But he replied, "The man
who made me well said to me,
'Pick up your mat and walk.'"
So they asked him, "Who is this
fellow who told you to pick it up
and walk?"
26. Do you want to be made whole ?
1. MAN-MADE RULES
• Jewish religious leaders are very “careful” in
obeying fully the Laws of Moses
• Commandment No 4 – No work on the Sabbath
• 39 Forbidden category of “work”
• This man was breaking rule no 39 –
‘No transportation of an object in public’
• Being healed after 38yrs ....
• We may laugh at this ....
But ...

– The place was full of sick
people ...
– Yet JESUS very specifically
sought out only this ONE
paralyzed man and healed
only him...
– He immediately slipped away
to avoid being noticed ...
– YES Jesus has the power to
heal ....
– BUT does not mean He will
heal everyone.
29. Do you want to be made whole ?
3. SIN & SICKNESS
v14 Later Jesus found him at the
temple and said to him, "See,
you are well again. Stop sinning
or something worse may
happen to you.“
Was his paralysis due to
sin ?
Can sin cause illnesses ?
Are all sicknesses due to
sin ?
30. SIN & SICKNESS
1. ALL “SICKNESS” IS DUE TO SIN
2. Sin can cause “sicknesses”
3. But not all “sickness” is due to our
own sin or our parent’s sin (Ref Jn
9:3)
4. Even when your sin is
dealt with & forgiven,
you still can be “sick”
34. The Pharisees and the teachers
of the law began thinking to
themselves, "Who is this fellow
who speaks blasphemy? Who
can forgive sins but God alone?"
35. "Why are you thinking these things in your
hearts? Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins
are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'?
36. “But that you may know that the Son of Man
has authority on earth to forgive sins. . . . I tell
you, get up, take your mat and go home."
37. V26 Immediately he stood up in front
of them, took what he had been lying
on and went home praising God.

John 5:1-151 Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast of the Jews. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. 3 Here a great number of disabled people used to lie — the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. 5 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?" 7 "Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me." 8 Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk." 9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked. The day on which this took place was a Sabbath, 10 and so the Jews said to the man who had been healed, "It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat." 11 But he replied, "The man who made me well said to me, 'Pick up your mat and walk.'" 12 So they asked him, "Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?" 13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there. 14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you." 15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. NIV
In 1888 there was an archaeological dig that was the result of repairs that had begun on St. Anne’s Church building. A 4th-century building was found first, with paintings on the walls depicting an angel stirring the water of a pool. Below that building the site of a pool was unearthed. In 1888 excavations near St. Anne's Church… revealed the remains of an ancient church building. Beneath this lay a crypt, with its north wall divided into five compartments in imitation of arches; on this wall there could also be distinguished traces of an old fresco representing the angel troubling the water. Clearly those who built this structure believed that it marked the site of the pool of Bethesda. And subsequent excavations below the crypt showed that they were right; a flight of steps was uncovered leading down to a pool with five shallow porticoes on its north side, directly underneath the five imitation arches on the north wall of the crypt. There are few sites in Jerusalem, mentioned in the Gospels, which can be identified so confidently.(from "The New Testament Documents: Are they Reliable?" by F. F. Bruce, emphasis mine)
The name of the pool is said to be derived from the Hebrew language and/or Aramaic language. beth hesda(בית חסד/חסדא), meaning either house of mercyor house of grace. In both Hebrew and Aramaic the word could also mean 'shame, disgrace'. This dual meaning may have been thought appropriate since the location was seen as a place of disgrace due to the presence of invalids, and a place of grace, due to the granting of healing.
The 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix (formally known as the 2013 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix)[1] was a Formula One motor race that was held on 24 March 2013 at the Sepang International Circuit in Selangor, Malaysia.[2] The race was the second round of the 2013 season, and marked the fifteenth running of the Malaysian Grand Prix as a round of the Formula One World Championship. Sebastian Vettel won the race for Red Bull Racing, having started from pole position.[3]The race was marked by controversy surrounding team orders issued by the Red Bull andMercedes teams, with Vettel passing his team-mate Mark Webber to win against an order from his team to hold position,[4] and Lewis Hamilton retaining third place in front of Mercedes team-mate NicoRosberg on orders from team principal Ross Brawn.[5][6][7]
As I was reading through David Pawson's explanation of Hebrews, I came across this wonderful little story. Pawson writes, "When I was a Pastor at the Millmead Centre in Guildford, there was a little old lady sitting in the church all by herself, crying her heart out... She explained that for 30 years she had been asking God to forgive her of a dreadful thing, and that God never had. I told her, that the very first time she asked Him, He forgive it and He forgot it. So for 30 years, God hadn't known what she was talking about. It took 20 minutes to convince her that God had forgiven and forgotten all about it. She got up, and I couldn't believe my eyes... she danced around the church! She was about 70, and here she was, dancing around the church in sheer joy. Our trouble is, we can't forget, and so we struggle to forgive ourselves." [Page 1131 Unlocking the Bible]. It's amazing but true... when we confess our sins to God (For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God... Romans 3:23), He forgives and forgets that sin ("For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." Hebrews 8:12).
Friday, 15 March, 2002, 12:19 GMTSaudi police 'stopped' fire rescueThe Mecca city governor visited the fire-damaged school Saudi Arabia's religious police stopped schoolgirls from leaving a blazing building because they were not wearing correct Islamic dress, according to Saudi newspapers. In a rare criticism of the kingdom's powerful "mutaween" police, the Saudi media has accused them of hindering attempts to save 15 girls who died in the fire on Monday.About 800 pupils were inside the school in the holy city of Mecca when the tragedy occurred.15 girls died in the blaze and more than 50 others were injuredAccording to the al-Eqtisadiah daily, firemen confronted police after they tried to keep the girls inside because they were not wearing the headscarves and abayas (black robes) required by the kingdom's strict interpretation of Islam. One witness said he saw three policemen "beating young girls to prevent them from leaving the school because they were not wearing the abaya".The Saudi Gazette quoted witnesses as saying that the police - known as the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice - had stopped men who tried to help the girls and warned "it is a sinful to approach them".The father of one of the dead girls said that the school watchman even refused to open the gates to let the girls out."Lives could have been saved had they not been stopped by members of the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice," the newspaper concluded.Relatives' angerFamilies of the victims have been incensed over the deaths. Most of the victims were crushed in a stampede as they tried to flee the blaze. The school was locked at the time of the fire - a usual practice to ensure full segregation of the sexes. The religious police are widely feared in Saudi Arabia. They roam the streets enforcing dress codes and sex segregation, and ensuring prayers are performed on time. Those who refuse to obey their orders are often beaten and sometimes put in jail.On March 11, 2002, a fire at a girls' school in Mecca, Saudi Arabia killed fifteen people, all young girls. The event was especially notable due to complaints that Saudi Arabia's "religious police" (aka the Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice) stopped schoolgirls from leaving the burning building and hindered rescue workers because the girls were not wearing correct Islamic dress.[1] As HannyMegally, Executive Director of the Middle East and North Africa division of Human Rights Watch put it, "Women and girls may have died unnecessarily because of extreme interpretations of the Islamic dress code. State authorities with direct and indirect responsibility for this tragedy must be held accountable."[2]Fire and controversyAccording to Saudi press reports the blaze at Makkah Intermediate School No. 31 started at about 8am. The blaze began in a room on the top floor, apparently caused by an unattended cigarette.[3][4][5]As a result of the fire and ensuing rush to escape, 15 young girls died, and more than 50 were injured. Nine of the dead girls were Saudis; the rest were from Chad, Egypt, Guinea, Niger, and Nigeria.[4] The majority of the deaths occurred when a staircase collapsed as the girls fled the building. The residential property upon which the school was built, being overcrowded with 800 pupils, was very unsuitable. In addition, the building may have lacked proper safety infrastructure and equipment, such as fire stairs and alarms.[2]According to at least two reports, members of the Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (CPVPV), also known as Mutaween, would not allow the girls to escape or to be saved from the fire because they were "not properly covered", and the mutaween did not want physical contact to take place between the girls and the civil defense forces for fear of sexual enticement, and variously that the girls were locked in by the police, or forced back into the building.[2][6] Civil Defense stated that the fire had extinguished itself before they arrived on the scene. CPVPV officers did appear to object to Civil Defense workers going into the building - Human Rights Watch quoted a Civil Defense officer as saying,"Whenever the girls got out through the main gate, these people forced them to return via another. Instead of extending a helping hand for the rescue work, they were using their hands to beat us."The CPVPV denied the charges of beating or locking the gates but the incident and the accounts of witnesses were reported in Saudi newspapers such as the Saudi Gazette and Al-Iqtisaddiyya. The result was a very rare public criticism of the group.[6]Also criticized was the General Presidency for Girls' Education (GPGE), "an autonomous government agency long controlled by conservative clerics", that administers girls' schools in Saudi Arabia.[2]The fire started among thrown-away books and papers. One of the teenagers at Girls' Intermediate School No. 31 in Mecca, the holiest city in Islam, was sneaking a cigarette before classes. A hall monitor spotted her on the trash-strewn landing at the top of the stairs and she tossed the butt away. Twenty minutes later, teachers smelled smoke. One shouted, 'Fire!' Within seconds, panic more intense than the flames swept through the school. July 15 Four months ago, 15 girls died in a terrible fire at a girls school in Saudi Arabia, when ancient traditions kept male firefighters from entering the building. Newsweek magazines Christopher Dickey discusses changes sparked by the case. ABOUT 750 GIRLS from the ages of 13 to 17 poured into the single narrow stairwell, but the door at the bottom the door to the air and light was locked and chained. The only person with a key was a man, an illiterate guard who?d left on a menial errand, closing everyone inside. The electricity went off. Screaming, suffocating girls began to die in the dark. It got worse fast. Firefighters and ambulances arrived in short order, probably before anyone had died. But according to eyewitness reports, a member of the muttawa, zealous vigilantes who defend narrow-minded morality in the name of Islam, fought with the Civil Defense units that wanted to enter the building. The muttawa belong to the officially sanctioned Society for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice and make it their job to enforce head coverings for women and strict separation of the sexes. The fleeing girls had left their scarves behind, and their would-be rescuers were men. Some of the girls were actually forced back into the building to cover up. Finally, regular police subdued the muttawa leader, confiscated his ID and dragged him away. The school door was opened, the small fire extinguished. But by then 15 girls were dead or dying, and more than 40 were injured.
