Kim Solez The future and all that jazz tea talkKim Solez ,
The document discusses the changing relationship between humans and artificial intelligence (AI). It notes that AIs will not all be under human control, and instead will compete and cooperate with humans in diverse ways. Mechanisms need to be established to ensure this relationship benefits society. Over time, conventional humans will become less important compared to AIs. The author advocates accepting this change, sharing power with AIs, and including AIs in our circle of empathy. The document also outlines the author's plans to help advance tissue engineering pathology and mainstream AI education.

This document provides an overview of the history of phlebotomy and bloodletting. It discusses how the practice began in ancient Egypt and Greece and was used as a medical treatment through the 18th century, often resulting in patient harm. The development of the microscope in the 17th century allowed for examination of blood cells and helped transition bloodletting to diagnostic blood collection. The document also covers universal precautions for safe handling of blood and body fluids to prevent disease transmission.

Sickle cell disease registry and prevalence of sickle cell disease in kenya b...Kesho Conference
This document discusses the feasibility of establishing a sickle cell disease registry and determining the prevalence of sickle cell disease in Kenya. It begins with background information on sickle cell disease, including its genetic inheritance and global burden. It advocates for a national sickle cell disease control program in Kenya to improve education, care, and research. The proposed registry aims to describe patient demographics, care received, and establish a database. It outlines methods for gradual implementation across hospitals while disseminating educational materials to healthcare providers and communities. Determining the feasibility of these efforts could help establish the first steps towards managing sickle cell disease in Kenya.

Global recommendations on physical activity for healthhome
The document discusses the importance and public health significance of physical activity. It notes that physical inactivity is now the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality. It outlines WHO mandates to support countries in developing national physical activity guidelines and policies to promote physical activity. There is a need for global physical activity recommendations to address links between activity levels and prevention of non-communicable diseases. The recommendations will provide guidance to policy-makers on developing physical activity guidelines and policies at regional and national levels.

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
