The Global Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) aims to promote water security and climate change resilience in development planning. Changes in the water cycle from climate change will impact water security through increasing variability, extremes like droughts and floods, and warmer water temperatures. WACDEP works to integrate water security and climate resilience into development policies, budgets, and projects. It also builds institutional and planning capacities and supports development of investment strategies and bankable projects. The program has supported over 30 governments in integrating water security and climate change into their policies and plans across Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.

2. Climate change will impact water security
Changes in the water cycle are one of the main ways in which the impacts of climate change will be felt – this includes increasing variability, increasing extremes (droughts, floods), and higher ambient temperatures (including warmer water temperatures).

•40 publications, knowledge products and tools for water security & climate resilience developed and disseminated
•30 government institutions and other stakeholders in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe were capacitated to integrate water security and climate change in the design and implementation of policies, plans and projects
•34 national organisations were supported in developing legal frameworks/policies/strategies, sectoral and development plans integrating water security and climate resilience
•Nine regional organisations were supported in developing agreements, commitments and investment options and tools that integrate water security and climate resilience
•Three organisations were supported in the development of investment strategies supporting policies and plans which integrate water security for climate resilience
