The document outlines a plan to adapt the video game "The Last of Us" into a feature film. Key points include:
- The adaptation will have a high budget and be filmed mostly in America to match the game's setting.
- The genre is action/thriller. The story follows Joel protecting Ellie from mercenaries called the Fireflies as a zombie outbreak overthrows civilization.
- Challenges include finding suitable filming locations, achieving a large enough budget for CGI/editing, and obtaining necessary rights.
- Opportunities include leveraging improved CGI technology and fans of the popular game franchise.
2. Adapation
• I will be adapting The Last of Us video game
into a feature film which will have quite a high
budget and will mostly be made in America as
most of the game is set in America. I am
making this adaptation as I liked to play the
video game and enjoy the story of it, another
reason why I am making it is because of there
has been many pitches for the film and
anticipation and has not been carried out.
3. Genre and Narrative
• Genre is action and sub genre is thriller.
• Narrative: The equilibrium of the story is when there is
a zombie outbreak and people are turning into mutants
which overthrow the town. The disruption of the story
is when Joel's daughter Sarah is killed by the soldier
who tries to stop her from escaping. The attempt to
repair the disruption is when Joel decides to try and
stop the mercenaries who are dubbed as the fireflies.
He goes after them and protects people from them
whilst trying to protect Ellie. The re-equilibrium is
when Joel goes to rescue Ellie who is kidnapped by the
fireflies who want to kill her, at the end Joel tells Ellie
that he saved her from being unconscious.
4. Constraints
• There have been many attempts and pitches to make
the film adaptation but none have been carried out as
lack of funds and fear of loss of popularity.
• Finding sets such as abandoned hospital and derelict
sites to record the scenes.
• Budget might be too small for all the CGI and editing of
scenes needed.
• Gaining permission of copyrighted music
• Purchasing rights for original script
• Clothing brands presented without consent
5. Opportunities
• CGI has improved over the years so I will be able
to make the CGI look very realistic meaning that I
will be able to do loads of things with it. But it will
cost a lot.
• People who liked playing the game will watch the
movie as they will already be fans of the story
• Technology has improved a lot over the years so
will be able to use a lot better equipment to use
in ways such a editing and making scenes way
better
6. Target Audience
• Primary target audience:
Ages:18-30
Gender: Males
Lifestyle: Active
Spending Power: Might have budget on amount they can spend
Socio economic grouping: D, C2, C1
Interests: Action films, followers of the game
Secondary target audience:
Ages: 25-35
Gender: Females
Lifestyle: People who like to go out and socialize
Spending power: Higher Spending power
Socio economic grouping: C1 C2 B
Interests: Action films, followers of the game, followers of the actors
7. Cinematic Ideas
• Editing: the cinematic ideas I have for my film is that I want
my film to be fast paced editing since it is meant to be an
action movie
• Costumes: The costumes will be survivalist clothes, which
look old and battered such as hiking gear and heavy duty
back packs.
• Lighting: The lighting throughout the film is meant to be
dark and look like an end of the world environment such as
s polluted and smoked up skies.
• Camera: There will be loads of mid shots and close-ups
since the film is meant to be am action film, will show the
main characters faces. Wide shots because it is an action
film so will show dramatic angels.
