4. INTRODUCTION
From research done regarding most disaster
situations, the need for an immediate sanitation
solution has been found to be very necessary. The
portable toilet which can be used anywhere is
intended to provide a temporary solution to this
problem before permanent solutions are
implemented.
5. PURPOSE OF PROJECT
Deliver a product that will provide a quick and effective
means of containing both excreta and urine in the first
stages of a disaster situation thus:
Reducing the transmission of faecal-oral disease.
Minimize bad practices like indiscriminate open
defecation and the use of “flying toilets”.
6. The purpose of the project
• Poverty (human and social vulnerability )
lack appropriate actions
lack adequate coping capacities
• Insufficient management
one of the main reason for sanitation facilities fail
• Lack of long thinking and planning
ignore long-term solutions
Our solution is produce a long term usage and eco-friendly portable
toilet

Design Concept
A portable kit made from galvanised
steel and Aluminium alloy parts.
100% biodegradable bags
Galvanised Steel
Aluminium alloy
8. PDS (continued)
Standards and Specifications
Bags : Standard BS EN 13432. Products meeting this
standard are safe for composting
Seat: The dimensions for the seat will have to conform to the BS
1254:1981 WC standards for toilet seats.
The Seat will be made from galvanised steel to BS EN 10327-2004
standards. This means they are suitable for use in areas where they
are susceptible to corrosion.
Stands: Aluminium alloy u- shaped designed.

EXSISTING COMPETATORS
HO! Toilet (£4.6)
Strength: Comes with a poncho for privacy and very cheap.
Weaknesses: Has little regard for Ergonomics as it can only be
used in squad position.
Bio Toi TOILET (£36.24)
Strengths : Weighs only 2 Kg , is foldable and uses
Biodegradable bags.
Weaknesses: Very expensive and can’t be used as squat toilet.
The Woe2Go Toilet (£37.096)
Strengths: Uses a bio chemical for breaking down odours and
facial material.
Weaknesses: Very Expensive and bulky.

The simulations was the basic idea to determine the ability of
product to withstand the given loads and strees at various level of
the material

2) 1200N ( Max Weight on designed product)
3) 2000N ( Further testing )

1200N/4 = 300 each
2000N/4 = 500 each

21. MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Seat
▫ Galvanised sheet will be cut to the recommended shape and size.
▫ Edges of the resulting parts to be bent around the edges to
provide a smooth profile .
▫ The sockets will then be welded onto the base of the sheet.
Stands
▫ To be machined directly from long aluminium alloy tubes and bent
to the appropriate dimensions.
Sanitary bags (10 litre-capacity)
▫ To be bought directly from suppliers
22. MANUFACTURING COST
Data based on industry averages and typical manufacturing
practices, and should therefore be viewed only as a guide. Actual
costs may vary based on the specific manufacturer, equipment,
geographical location, and prevailing market conditions.
Fig: Unit production
costs at 15.78 GBP

Complete Seat 3.53
4 Sockets 1.50
2 stands 7.75
40 Bags 3.00
Total 15.78
23. TECHNOLOGY/PROCESS
Our product makes use of biodegradable sanitation bags.
The main kit will be built by the company but we shall
purchase the Certified Compostable EN13432 sanitation
bags from a known manufacturer.
With this easy to use product people will no longer lack a
decent place and means to ease themselves during Disaster
situations . This should then prevent the indiscriminate littering
of Emergency Camps with feacal material which is the root
cause of disease.
24. COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES
• Our competitive advantages.
▫ Our main competitive advantage is on the pricing.
▫ And our baseline prototype which doesn't require
sophisticated technology to produce meaning it can be built
almost anywhere in the world.
• How long our competitive advantages will last.
▫ The competitive advantage that we have should last at least
more than 2 years given that we intend to also diversify into
the existing market of 'luxury' temporary sanitation facilities.
• Why customers will care.
▫ Customers will definitely choose our product because the
alternatives are currently expensive and the cheaper ones
aren't eco-friendly.
25. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE
Current and potential competitors.
▫ Our current competitor who is producing a product with
the same qualities as ours is EcoFriend a Swedish
Company whose product currently retails at GBP 37.2.
Difference between our product and the competition.
▫ With our product Retailing at GBP 10 inclusive of 40
sanitation bags compared to our competitors who supply
24 Bags with their package, we should be able to lead in
market share in a short period of time.
26. MARKET ANALYSIS
Research from reports regarding most disaster
situations recognises the need for an immediate
sanitation solution.
OXFAM have already explored the use of Poo Bags for
Safe Excreta Disposal in Emergency Settings.
The portable toilet which can be used anywhere is
intended to provide a temporary solution to this
problem before permanent solutions are implemented.

28. MARKET ANALYSIS(CONTINUED)
Initial manufacture in the UK before production plants can go
overseas.
This should then push down production costs and that will
drive up our profit margin.
This product will be new in so many areas hence the need to
gauge consumer reaction before improving on this prototype
and relaunching.
We also hope to expand our product portfolio to cover the
luxury market of camping trips, music festivals, rallies and
many other outdoor activities' sanitation solutions. This will
increase our target market and provide us with increased
profits.
29. GO-TO-MARKET STRATEGY
• Key Customers
▫ Our ideal customers will be Agencies and Non-Governmental
Organizations involved in Disaster Relief, humanitarian
response, disaster service and assistance; like Oxfam, The
Red Cross and World Vision.
▫ Some critical partners in the future will be governments in
those areas that are prone to natural disasters mostly in the
developing world.
• What our customers will buy.
▫ Our customers will buy kits that will be well packaged to ease
on transportation One-time or recurring payment.
▫ Since our product has a three year warranty, all that customers
should worry about are the replacement Sanitation bags which
are available for those that want to continue using the kit.
30. Given the already acknowledged sanitation challenges in some parts
of the world even without a disaster scenario, this product can still
come in very handy.
One requirement for this product was that it was supposed to have
'universal appeal' and for those regions of the world where there is a
squat-toilet culture (Some parts of the Middle East and South East
Asia), our product still remains the only one designed with that
requirement in mind.
For its price and its intended use, the Ready4Use Kit will be the best
in the market.
