Lesson Objectives
 To know the definition of ICT, System and ICT
 System.

 To be able to provide examples of a System and an ICT
 System.

 To understand what the difference is between Data
and Information is and how that change takes place.
What is ICT?
 In pairs discuss what you think ICT?

 Information and Communication Technology is the
use of technology for the input, processing, storage
and transfer of data and the output of information.
ICT Systems
 Find/Create a definition for a ‘System’ and an ‘ICT
 System’

 System – “A set of connected things or parts forming a
complex whole” – Input, Process, Output
 ICT System – The same as a System but it uses
technology and the output goes directly to a human or
    another ICT system.
System – Input, Process, Output
             Data Information
   Input Process Output

Take Food Add up the Produce the
   Order Separate Bill
                      Items
ICT System –
Input, Process, Output
               Data Information
   Input Process Output

 Photos from Crop and Improved
   Digital Airbrush in Photos
   Camera Graphics Displayed
                       Software
Task - Systems
 Draw the Input, Process & Output diagram for both a
 System and ICT System.

 Annotate both diagrams with an example.
ICT System –
Input, Storage, Process, Output

         Data Data Information

 Input Storage Process Output
What is Data?
 In pairs discuss what you think Data is?

 Data can be defined as a set of recorded facts, numbers
or events that have no meaning.

 Data is meaningless until it is given relevance.

 All data on a computer is represented by 0’s and 1’s.
Types of Data
 What are the different types of data?
   Text
   Numeric
   Boolean/Logical
   Images
   Audio
   Video
