2. BLOOD GROUPS
A Blood group also called
a blood type. There are
mainly two blood group
systems:
i. ABO blood group
system
ii. Rh blood group system.
Human blood group is
mainly : ‘A’, ‘B’,
‘AB’, ‘O’.

Rh FACTOR
There are six common
types of Rh antigen (C, D,
E, c, d, e). Each of them is
called Rh factor.
D antigen is most common
than others.
Any personwho has d
antigen is Rh positive.
Any personwho do not
have D antigen is Rh
negative .
People with Rh positive
blood can get Rh positive
or Rh negative blood.
People with Rh negative
blood should get only Rh
negative blood.
This classification is
based on the type of
Antigens( agglutinogens)
present in the erythrocytes
as well as the type of
Antibodies ( agglutins).
The blood used in a
transfusion must be
compatible with the
patient’s blood type.
Type‘O’blood is called
UNIVERSAL DONOR.
Type‘AB’blood are called
UNIVERSAL
RECIPIENT.
