             components of the computer
  CPU Ram
The CPU carries out the Ram is when you store memory for a short
instructions and it is the brain of period off time
the computer Ram is also measured in different sizes
CPU stands for central processing (1GB,2GB,4GB,16GB)
unit Ram also stands for random access memory
The CPU works on a list of Ram is used for storing data for running
instruction staring from top to programs
bottom one by one
The CPU is measured in hertz and
megahertz
Hard drive Motherboard
The hard drive is were you store
your date and your programmes are The mother board is
stored there the heart off the
hard drive are measured in computer and is were
gigabytes, megabytes and terabytes all the components
You can connect the hard drive by a are placed
sata cable All the hardware is
                                              connected to the
               Power supply motherboard by
                                              cables
The power supply gives out the right amount The motherboard
off power to each components comes in different
Power supply changes AC power into DC colures like black, red
power and yellow but it is
PSU stands for power supply unit usually green
                                              Parts that are
                                              removable are the
                                              CPU , ram and
                                              memory
Unit 3 pass task 2
                          computer systems
        Desktop Laptop
A desktop is stationary A laptop is easier to carry around with you and
Desktop can stand straight or flat you can fold the top down so it is smaller
A desktop has separate parts the keyboard and a laptop has most of the same components as
mouse and monitor a desktop computer
A desktop can be cheaper these days A laptop is powered by battery
                                                Sometimes laptops are called notebook
                                                computers
Smartphone Game consoles
A smartphone is more portable
You can call and text people on a smartphone
You can go on Google maps and satnav Game consoles can be used for gaming
Smartphones can run multiply apps at one You can get different things on it like BBC
time so it makes it easier to get things done Iplayer, sky sports, itv Iplayer etc.
because you don’t have to keep opening them Game consoles can be used for online gaming
your friends can be anywhere in the world
Xbox are made by Microsoft and ps3 are made
                                              by Sony
Xbox are cheaper in the short run
Unit 3 pass task 3 how data flows
   round a computer system

This diagram shows how an email gets sent to someone else.an email is
created at a pc 2. Then it goes throw the ethnet cable to get to the switch.
Then the switch knows where to send it because of IP address, and then the
email goes through two router through a cable. When the email is in the server
room it reads it then sends it back out. It goes back the same way it passes
through 2 routers and a switch. The switch knows what pc to go to because of
 the IP address.
 Red= email going
 Blue = email coming back
This is an
invoice for Mr
                 Unit 3 pass task 4
Oneway. This
is for
upgrading his
laptop from
windows XP
to windows 7
and it is
under £300
Unit 3 pass task 5/6
Screw the wireless antenna in the back of the wireless card .
Step by step of installing a wireless PCI adapter

This is a wireless –G PCI adapter this allows you to
connect to the internet wireless. We took the PCI
wireless adapter out of the box and out the
antistatic bag.

The next step is turn the computer off
and put on a antistatic mat and put on
a antistatic wrist band it stops the
         computer form being damaged from
         ESD electrostatic discharge. Then you
open the computer, then open the
green clip get the wireless internet card
place in the nic slot make sure it is in
evenly. Then close the green clip
Then we shut the case then put the power supply back in

                                                                                 This are the terms and
                                                                                 conditions you have to accept
it other wise you can not
                                                                                 install the wireless Linksys
                                                                                 adapter
After we close the case we put the driver in the CD-ROM. This is telling
you what language you want it
Unit 3 pass task 7
                                 Wireless security
    Open network Wired equivalent privacy
An open network is bad because any one can get in 2001 mathematicians showed that WEP was not very
on to your network strong and a WEP connection could be decoded the IEEE
Because you don’t know who is going to join your declared that both WEP-40 and WEP-104 are not
network they can be a hacker. recommended because they are not secure enough.
A hacker can steel your data they can put viruses Even though it only offers low security WEP is still widely
on to your computer it can damage your computer used WEP is often used the first choice presented to users
They can also control your computer by router configuration tools
Newly installed networks they will not be secure
and the things above can happen. The network
administrator can put in place one of the
following: WEP, WPA, RADIUS
Wi-Fi protected across

WPA is a type of standards encryption it stops Radius
people accessing your WI-FI by putting a
password on it. Radius stands for Remote Authentication Dial
WPA is stronger then WEP. In User Service
bit key that makes it more secure It is a networking protocol that provides
                                            centralized AAA stands for Authentication,
                                            Authorization, and Accounting
It is often used for ISP’S to mange access to the
internet to access the internet you have to put
in a user and password and that is check by the
                                            server
