Oscar Scandal Research Paper
There has been an outcry, due to a noticeable lack of recognition of people of color, in Hollywood.
Sparking the trending hashtag about this year's Oscars (#OscarsSoWhite). There are multiple films,
productions, and TV shows that are wildly popular with the public, and not just in theaters and
cable, through multiple internet streaming services. Titles such as Scandal, Fresh off the Boat,
Empire, Master of None, Black–ish, show a revival for multi–cultural representation not seen since
the 1970's. Yet there is a noticeable pattern of systemic problems against recognition and
commendation of someone black or brown, unless if so, in a subservient role, causing many a
celebrity to boycott the award ceremony in protest. Both Spike Lee and Jada ... Show more content

Diversity In Hollywood
Diversity and representation has been in an increased demand over the past few years. Even
children's TV producers and creators are taking notice by including LGBT and all sorts of ethnic
characters in their shows. However, it seems that Hollywood has yet to take note. For the second
year in a row, the Oscars have failed to bring diversity to this year's nominations. Many expressed
their frustration online, taking to Twitter using the hashtag, #OscarsSoWhite, and saying they will be
boycotting the event. Jada Pinkett Smith announced on social media that she will not be attending
the Oscars because of their lack of diversity. Later, Will Smith, who starred in Concussion, says he
stands by his wife. The Smith family is not the only group of celebrities to be boycotting the Oscars.
Celebrities such as Spike Lee, Tyrese Gibson, as well as Snoop Dogg all announced they will
neither attend nor watch the Oscars. Even Oscar nominee, Mark Ruffalo gives support to the
boycott. While Ruffalo is still attending, however, he states that he will be going "in support of

It is not just about winning, or even being nominated, but representation. Clearly, the Latino, Asian,
and Native American community do not have the representation they deserve in the media – the
roles for other minorities are not there and there is ZERO reason for their absence. Would the
Martian, a movie about a fictional space trip to mars, be any different with a Latino? Would the
movie Room, another fictional movie based off a book, be any different with a Native American
actress? There is no reason to be casting movies with white actors and actresses if it does not matter
to the plot, and that is something Hollywood has yet to

Loyalty And Loyalty In Beowulf
Beowulf is an old English poem written by an anonymous poet from the Anglo–Saxon era. The
poem is about a strong warrior that conquers monsters and eventually goes on to become King. His
kingdom is being destroyed by a monsters and Beowulf uses his power and bravery to annihilate all
of them. Beowulf's first warfare was against Grendel, which is a monster that has been destroying
the Sclydings. Beowulf battles Grendel in the Mead Hall at Herot and tear's off Grendel's arm,
almost instantly killing it. Grendel's mother striked at the Danes to get back at them for killing
Grendel but, Beowulf followed her back to her home and killed her. One important idea in this story
is that loyalty is everything. For example, Beowulf is loyal to Hrothgar when he agrees to help get
rid of Grendel, who has been destroying the mead hall for the past twelve years. This is important
because loyalty will always be important and it will take you far in life. Beowulf was rewarded with
becoming king because he was brave and loyal. When you're loyal, you receive things in life that
can change your life and will keep you in good standing with people and you never know when you
will need them to do something for you. The Wife of Bath's Tale: A knight assaulted a young woman
during the time of King Arthur. He was sentenced to death but, the queen begged King Arthur to
reprieve his life. The Queen was then liability of the knight's life. She then gave him a riddle. The

Hammeke, Derek, director. Finding Home. Flying Treasure LLC, 2014. The film explores the topic
of trafficking that occurs in Cambodian. It shows stories about three girls who live in Cambodian
and get stuck in doing human trafficking. The highlight of the story is an organization from the
United States who has volunteers, who come and support female children who have been affected
by sex trafficking. The director of the film captures the female children stories on how they got
involved in human trafficking. In Cambodian the females who are stuck in human trafficking start at
an early age. It is not a story of happiness, it is a story that reveals the truth about human trafficking
and how it occurs. Those females children are stuck in an environment that changes their lives. It
takes an approach to the realities of being involved in human trafficking. It shows the real issues the
women face into normality. It offers a reality check on the audience on human trafficking and it
offers opportunities to get the audience involved.

Set It Off Themes
Set It Off (1996) is an action packed, star studded film focusing on the lives of four African
American female friends in a tough inner city environment who are willing to go to any length,
including bank robbery, to escape the limitations and struggles of their gender, race, and
socioeconomic status. According to director Gary Gray, the film is "not so much about robbing
banks as choices young sisters make when their backs are against the wall" (Gregory 1996, 56).
While the film has similar urban youth struggles found in many of the other "ghettocentric" films of
the 1990s, Set It Off distinguishes itself in the genre due to presenting a largely unique all star cast
of "blacktresses" and also for portraying themes concentrated on the plight ... Show more content on

However, in contrast to the other exclusively male dominated and themed films also released in the
decade, when Set It Off was coauthored by Kate Lanier and Takashi Bufford in the early 1990s, it
was intentionally grounded in close observation of the harsh realities faced by four female friends
living in Los Angeles, California. In an opening scene, Frankie is fired for having a personal
connection to a man who robs the bank where she is a bank teller even though she clearly has no
involvement in the robbery. Stoney's younger brother is later that evening wrongfully gunned down
by police at his own high school graduation ceremony when he is mistakenly identified as being the
same neighborhood friend who had earlier robbed Frankie's bank. Because she is a single mother
earning low wages and has no means to pay for childcare, T.T.'s young son is taken away by child
protective services when the child is injured at her janitorial job as soon as desperation forces her to
bring him to work with her. Each of these closely chronological events, most notably T.T.'s necessity
to obtain money for legal fees in order to regain custody of her son, lead the foursome to form a pact
to rob banks together. Cleo is the only friend who appears to have no clear aspiration to leave their
urban lifestyle.

Jaden Smith's Career
Jaden Smith's career has been cemented on gender fluidity. Now, the son of the power couple Will
and Jada Pinket–Smith is being called a model for a new generation.
Danielle Moodie–Millks identified Jaden Smith's behavior as indicators of "a growing black
liberalism that challenges white American status quo." In an article from The Root, she explains that
Jaden and his sister Willow Smith gives off an aura that they are free to do whatever they please.
Jada Pinkett–Smith told US Magazine that she's not a conventional mother. Her children, however,
are free to express themselves through their clothes, hair and music to a certain degree.

Summary Of Sex Trafficking
Today we will analyze a titled Sex trafficking: The new American slavery, written by Leif Coorlim
and Dana Ford of the CNN news network. In this article is written by both women in order to help
spread awareness to the masses on the dangers of human trafficking, and its growing impact it has
on our community. The article starts of by placing a video titled "How Easy Children Are Recruited
in Human Trafficking" hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith that is a firsthand experience narrated by a 19
year–old female who was recruited into the industry at age 14. This article is very effective in
appealing to Pathos and Ethos. CNN used Jada smith's celebrity fame to help build its creditability.
Another way that CNN built its creditability by putting the personal story of a victim of the crime in
the article. This is also done to help appeal to the audience's emotions. The girl's personal account is
also used to show people how easy it is for criminals to get away with the crime. The 19 year old
woman named Sacharay stated how her former handler took advantage of her adolescent mind. This
is done to remind the audience of the age and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CNN goes on to state that the city of Atlanta, the capital of Georgia brings in around 290 million
dollars a year from human trafficking. More than 3,500 sex trafficking cases were reported to the
National Human Trafficking Resource Center last year alone. These two statement s are an appeal to
the logos of the audience. This is done by stating the amount of revenue the industry makes
annually. The article even states how much they make a week "According to a 2014 study by the
Urban Institute, some traffickers in Atlanta make more than $32,000 a week." This is also a
simultaneously an emotional appeal because it make the audience subconsciously think of Sacharay'

Human Trafficking Jada Pinkett Smith Summary
In Jada Pinkett Smiths' video about human trafficking we learn a lot of things we all may be
oblivious too, simply because we do not know that it exists in America today. I personally did not
realize it was an issue here because I was merely not educated on this inhumane issue. I learned a lot
just from this short video, such as where children are most likely to be recruited. What I understood
from this video was that that many "pimps" recruit by scoping out places where teens are most
likely to hang out. Places such as malls, schools, parks, even places like a barber shop. I also learned
that recruiters will use their current slaves to lure their friends in. I think a huge thing parents can do
to keep their children safer is to be involved

Last year there was a huge debacle with many African American actors protesting the Oscars. The
issue was a lack of diversity involving the nominations for awards. Only white actors and actresses
were nominated for the top four awards, sadly for the second year in a row. Because of this, the
hashtag #oscarssowhite gained popularity, and was seen all across social media. Granted, the Oscars
is movie nominations, but TV and movies play hand and hand with being film entertainment. Also,
there were plenty of television actors that had their fair share to say about the Oscars being too white

Girls Trip Screenwriter Becomes the First Black Screenwriter to Achieve a $1 Million Hit Movie
The film Girls Trip reached a $100–million dollar box–office hit which Hollywood execs could
never have predicted nor expected with an all–black female cast. Movies featuring an all–black cast
often lose its general appeal to the audience. Therefore, the rated–R comedy Girls Trip surprised
everyone with the news. When it hit the theaters last July, the overall box–office receipts were
actually low and towards the end of August it even went down by 14% compared to ratings last year.
This practically meant that Girls Trip was unlikely to become the highest–grossing comedy of the

There are not a lot of black female writers in Hollywood. Oliver notes that being the first to reach
this milestone made her feel special it is. She co–wrote the movie with Kenya Barris, the creator of

there are very few black writers and almost no female black writer. Oliver originally pursued acting
but her mom challenged her to change the stereotype casting of black women. So she took a

entertaining furthermore, the eye candy isn't inadequet either. Channing Tatum returns hotter than

By way of extolment from prominent film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum, Menace II Society is a
"powerful, convincing, and terrifying look at teenage crime in contemporary Watts (1993), even if it
also offers the mixed blessing of flattering and confirming the worst suspicions of many
neoconservatives about ghetto life" (Chicago Reader). Menace II Society is a 1993 drama that
expounds on practical social issues of the black community encountered on a diurnal basis, and how
those social issues are broadcasted deceptively and insincerely within mass media. With the
amalgamated talents of directors Albert and Allen Hughes, alongside entertainers suchlike: Tyrin
Turner (Kaydee "Caine" Lawson), Jada Pinkett–Smith (Ronnie), Larenz Tate (Kevin "O–Dog"

American society.

Jaden Smith, the son of Will and Jada Pinkett–Smith, has been under the media spotlight once again
for being "dead." But he isn't. His Twitter account shows him as active as a social media posting
teenager should be.
And he is getting a ton of attention without even doing anything. Speculations surrounding his life
or death come from rumors that he is being bullied. In fact, his clothing line MSFTS is made for
people like himself.
"[The clothing line is for] the girl that wants to be a tomboy or the boy that wants to wear a skirt,
and people try to condemn. We're here for you. Tell us your stories. If someone at your school's

Describe The Relationship Between Aspasia And Pericles
A power couple, a male and female companionship that results in prosperity on both ends of the
relationship. It is a couple that strives upon success and ultimately two well–rounded beings are
produced. Every era potentially has what is considered a power couple. In our era we have Jay–Z
and Beyoncé, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett–Smith. These couples
achieve great success together, and individually. Aspasia and Pericles were the ultimate power
couple of their era because together they achieved so much. There is one name that no other woman
should possess for it only suites the most beautiful, one whose beauty is far greater than even the
Greek goddess of beauty Aphrodite. Most intellectual being far greater than that of any Philosophers
much like Socrates in the flesh. The name Aspasia, my name. It is of Greek origin. Meaning to

Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin In The Sun
The play "A Raisin in the Sun" was written in 1959 by Lorraine Hansberry. This play is about a
struggling black family in chicago during the 1950's who has faced many hardships but gain some
relief after receiving life insurance money from the deceased character Mr. Younger. The family
formulates many ideas about what should be done with the money, some ideas being more selfish
than others. But, mama makes the final decision to buy a house in an all white neighborhood so the
family can move out of their apartment and start a better life, which has been a dream for the family.
But, these plans are almost destroyed when her son Walter Lee loses most of the money to his friend
who he thought was going to start a liquor store with him. Even though this is a set back the family
decides to go through with their plans to move even though this would create financial uncertainty.

If I were to direct this play I would for the most part true to the original play and would only change
minor aspects. This is because changing to much of the play can cause the overall message, that I

family is African American during the 1950's that had to face many challenges, that through the
strength of family and dreams they will rise to the challenge is instead of becoming a raisin in the
sun. As the director of the play "A raisin in the sun" I would precisely plan how the scene sets would

Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to the film Magic Mike that was released back in 2012, is hilariously
entertaining and the eye candy isn't bad either. Channing Tatum is back and hotter than ever in his
return to the stage for a "stripper reunion" in Myrtle Beach, SC. And while, I am never a big fan of
sequels I have to say that at least this one, simply creates its own story with very few references to
the first movie, which is nice, especially for those who never saw Magic Mike the original. It seems,
at least to me, that this movie works hard to break some of the stereotypical thoughts about
strippers, moreover, it makes you realize that these are not just a bunch of hot bodied individuals but
actual men in pursuit of real life. The movie

Masculinity And Women
What does it mean to be male or female? To you, masculinity is probably playing sports, drinking
beer while watching football games, and wearing a suit and tie. Masculinity is probably short hair
and bulging muscles. To you, femininity is probably dressing up in fancy dresses and jewelry,
putting on a face of makeup, and going to the nail salon. Femininity is probably long, flowing hair
and a slender body. This is not the truth, however. These images have been fed to us by society since
the day we were born. Society has created these idealistic men and women. A world in which the
men go to work at the factory and the women stay home with the children. Gender roles have been

Whis is it considered humorous when men dress up as women or women dress up as men? Why is it
considered wrong for a person of a certain gender to wear the clothing of another? Why is it that
these people –– these other human beings –– are taunted for being themselves? The answer to that is
simple. These innocent actions are perceived as "disgusting" and "wrong" in the eyes of society. The
arrogance of society has prevented us from pursuing something that would guarantee happiness.
They would rather ridicule us than allow us to disturb their perfect little world. Thousands of us hide
away in the shadows of anxiety instead of revealing our true self because we know how society
would react. They would reject us and isolate us until we revert back to a state of reservation. There

white people fought in the Civil War to free enslaved people? Is she saying that white people went

the Civil War to fight for the freedom of those in slavery is because the black people were unable to

According to the sources I've read, American Americans had a very complex time in the history in

Society wanted African American to stay in their place, so they were given roles such as criminals,

The Effects Of Diversity On Hollywood And One Of The Most...
There has been many controversies about the lack of diversity in Hollywood and one of the most
recent one was the 2016 Oscars. The Oscars is an award show that showcase the best people in front
and behind the camera. Unfortunately there was barely any diversity in the nominations this year
since most nominators were white, even though there was many diverse films that were considered
Oscar worthy. With that being said, people protested that there needs to be more diversity in these
categories and some actors agreeing by using the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite in social media. To make
things worse, the Academy Awards members are majority older white males which brought to the
attention from the protesters that in order to have diversity into the awards, the members itself needs
to represent of all races so, it can be considered a fair choice. Which make sense to why throughout
history of the Oscars there was always a discrepancy of diversity in the nominations since 1929
because only a very small percentage of minorities actors have received an award compared to the
white actors that dominated the Oscars with a high percentage of winners. This created tension in
Hollywood that the Oscars are marginalizing itself as a all white program and that there needs to be
changes. When the nominations were being announced for the 2016 Oscars, many were surprised of
the lack of diversity and the films that were snubbed. One in particular would be Beast of No

My Best Day
I once heard a quote that T. Roosevelt said. It started with "Believe you can and you're halfway
there." I have believed and my life has been already halfway there. On a cool spring day, on May 25,
2005 I was welcomed to the world. I was born an identical twin at 2:29 PM. I was born first. I was
referred to as Baby A before I was born. I weighed 6lbs 12oz and 18 ¾ inches. I had to be in the
nursery for 12 hours to get more oxygen. I was named after Jada Pinkett Smith. My mom decided on
the name and my sister picked me to be named Jada. Many of our family and friends came to hold
and see me. That was a day I will never forget.
May 25, 2006, was an exciting day for me, my family, and my friends. It was my first birthday!
Many friends and family came to our house to celebrate it. Me and Kylie both got a smash cake to
dive into. My mom had to show us how to eat the smash cake, because we had no clue what it even
was. We dived into the smash cake and I thought it tasted delicious! I had it all in my hair and all
over the place. It was the best thing I've ever tasted, because all I ever ate was baby food and that
tasted nothing like the smash cake did. When it was time to open presents everyone gathered in the
living room and helped us open them. After watching how to open the presents I wanted to try, so I
ripped open the presents and I was shocked at all the different presents everyone bought me. The
present that I remember the most was these little pink and purple cars.

Women in Spike Lee's Bamboozled
Our team chose to focus on representations of women in Spike Lee's latest joint,
"Bamboozled". This theme was attractive to us because we felt the filmmaker had a powerful
message to send his audience after viewing the trailer in class.
Despite the fact that there is only one woman in a starring role, a multitude of specific and acute
ideas are presented by Spike Lee through the film. We were also eager to take advantage of the
opportunity to apply what we have learned in class to the thought–provoking and controversial
nature of his work. When reflecting upon representations of women, we felt that a continuous motif

personally beneficial reasons she must either defend or hide it. We feel the portrayal of women in
"Bamboozled" says a lot about the way they are represented not only in the media, but in capitalistic

Racism And Income Inequality In The United States
Racism and inequalities have existed, exists now, and will be here long after we are gone. However,
racism in this country has been diminished greatly, and though it will never be fully eradicated, it is
to the point where all races and ethnicities can achieve great things. All aspects of life, such as
income levels, success in the arts, and even college entrance are not beholden to systemic racism. It
is a person's own drive, personal life choices, and willingness to work hard that determine their level
of achievement. Of the many cultures in this country, some are more goal driven and can better
thrive in a capitalist society. Then there are some cultures that don't do so well. So, even though
racism does exist in the united states, it is not to the point where it grants benefits to white people.
There are many factors to income inequality in this country, not all of which are connected to
racism, but one's personal choices. The most prevalent factor that contributes to income ... Show

Oscar Scandal Research Paper

  • 1. Oscar Scandal Research Paper There has been an outcry, due to a noticeable lack of recognition of people of color, in Hollywood. Sparking the trending hashtag about this year's Oscars (#OscarsSoWhite). There are multiple films, productions, and TV shows that are wildly popular with the public, and not just in theaters and cable, through multiple internet streaming services. Titles such as Scandal, Fresh off the Boat, Empire, Master of None, Black–ish, show a revival for multi–cultural representation not seen since the 1970's. Yet there is a noticeable pattern of systemic problems against recognition and commendation of someone black or brown, unless if so, in a subservient role, causing many a celebrity to boycott the award ceremony in protest. Both Spike Lee and Jada ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Diversity In Hollywood Diversity and representation has been in an increased demand over the past few years. Even children's TV producers and creators are taking notice by including LGBT and all sorts of ethnic characters in their shows. However, it seems that Hollywood has yet to take note. For the second year in a row, the Oscars have failed to bring diversity to this year's nominations. Many expressed their frustration online, taking to Twitter using the hashtag, #OscarsSoWhite, and saying they will be boycotting the event. Jada Pinkett Smith announced on social media that she will not be attending the Oscars because of their lack of diversity. Later, Will Smith, who starred in Concussion, says he stands by his wife. The Smith family is not the only group of celebrities to be boycotting the Oscars. Celebrities such as Spike Lee, Tyrese Gibson, as well as Snoop Dogg all announced they will neither attend nor watch the Oscars. Even Oscar nominee, Mark Ruffalo gives support to the boycott. While Ruffalo is still attending, however, he states that he will be going "in support of victims of clergy Sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not just about winning, or even being nominated, but representation. Clearly, the Latino, Asian, and Native American community do not have the representation they deserve in the media – the roles for other minorities are not there and there is ZERO reason for their absence. Would the Martian, a movie about a fictional space trip to mars, be any different with a Latino? Would the movie Room, another fictional movie based off a book, be any different with a Native American actress? • 7. Loyalty And Loyalty In Beowulf Beowulf is an old English poem written by an anonymous poet from the Anglo–Saxon era. The poem is about a strong warrior that conquers monsters and eventually goes on to become King. His kingdom is being destroyed by a monsters and Beowulf uses his power and bravery to annihilate all of them. Beowulf's first warfare was against Grendel, which is a monster that has been destroying the Sclydings. Beowulf battles Grendel in the Mead Hall at Herot and tear's off Grendel's arm, almost instantly killing it. Grendel's mother striked at the Danes to get back at them for killing Grendel but, Beowulf followed her back to her home and killed her. One important idea in this story is that loyalty is everything. For example, Beowulf is loyal to Hrothgar when he agrees to help get rid of Grendel, who has been destroying the mead hall for the past twelve years. This is important because loyalty will always be important and it will take you far in life. Beowulf was rewarded with becoming king because he was brave and loyal. When you're loyal, you receive things in life that can change your life and will keep you in good standing with people and you never know when you will need them to do something for you. The Wife of Bath's Tale: A knight assaulted a young woman during the time of King Arthur. He was sentenced to death but, the queen begged King Arthur to reprieve his life. • 11. Set It Off Themes Set It Off (1996) is an action packed, star studded film focusing on the lives of four African American female friends in a tough inner city environment who are willing to go to any length, including bank robbery, to escape the limitations and struggles of their gender, race, and socioeconomic status. According to director Gary Gray, the film is "not so much about robbing banks as choices young sisters make when their backs are against the wall" (Gregory 1996, 56). While the film has similar urban youth struggles found in many of the other "ghettocentric" films of the 1990s, Set It Off distinguishes itself in the genre due to presenting a largely unique all star cast of "blacktresses" and also for portraying themes concentrated on the plight ... However, in contrast to the other exclusively male dominated and themed films also released in the decade, when Set It Off was coauthored by Kate Lanier and Takashi Bufford in the early 1990s, it was intentionally grounded in close observation of the harsh realities faced by four female friends living in Los Angeles, California. In an opening scene, Frankie is fired for having a personal connection to a man who robs the bank where she is a bank teller even though she clearly has no involvement in the robbery. Stoney's younger brother is later that evening wrongfully gunned down by police at his own high school graduation ceremony when he is mistakenly identified as being the same neighborhood friend who had earlier robbed Frankie's bank. Because she is a single mother earning low wages and has no means to pay for childcare, T.T.'s young son is taken away by child protective services when the child is injured at her janitorial job as soon as desperation forces her to bring him to work with her. Each of these closely chronological events, most notably T.T.'s necessity to obtain money for legal fees in order to regain custody of her son, lead the foursome to form a pact to rob banks together. Danielle Moodie–Millks identified Jaden Smith's behavior as indicators of "a growing black liberalism that challenges white American status quo." In this article is written by both women in order to help spread awareness to the masses on the dangers of human trafficking, and its growing impact it has on our community. The article starts of by placing a video titled "How Easy Children Are Recruited in Human Trafficking" hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith that is a firsthand experience narrated by a 19 year–old female who was recruited into the industry at age 14. This article is very effective in appealing to Pathos and Ethos. CNN used Jada smith's celebrity fame to help build its creditability. Another way that CNN built its creditability by putting the personal story of a victim of the crime in the article. This is also done to help appeal to the audience's emotions. Human Trafficking Jada Pinkett Smith Summary In Jada Pinkett Smiths' video about human trafficking we learn a lot of things we all may be oblivious too, simply because we do not know that it exists in America today. I personally did not realize it was an issue here because I was merely not educated on this inhumane issue. I learned a lot just from this short video, such as where children are most likely to be recruited. What I understood from this video was that that many "pimps" recruit by scoping out places where teens are most likely to hang out. Places such as malls, schools, parks, even places like a barber shop. I also learned that recruiters will use their current slaves to lure their friends in. I think a huge thing parents can do to keep their children safer is to be involved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Only white actors and actresses were nominated for the top four awards, sadly for the second year in a row. Because of this, the hashtag #oscarssowhite gained popularity, and was seen all across social media. Granted, the Oscars is movie nominations, but TV and movies play hand and hand with being film entertainment. Girls Trip Screenwriter Girls Trip Screenwriter Becomes the First Black Screenwriter to Achieve a $1 Million Hit Movie The film Girls Trip reached a $100–million dollar box–office hit which Hollywood execs could never have predicted nor expected with an all–black female cast. Movies featuring an all–black cast often lose its general appeal to the audience. Therefore, the rated–R comedy Girls Trip surprised everyone with the news. When it hit the theaters last July, the overall box–office receipts were actually low and towards the end of August it even went down by 14% compared to ratings last year. This practically meant that Girls Trip was unlikely to become the highest–grossing comedy of the summer. The results even surprised the movie's screenwriter Tracy Oliver. ... • 27. The Sequel To The Film Magic Mike XXL Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to the film Magic Mike that was released in 2012, is hilariously entertaining furthermore, the eye candy isn't inadequet either. Channing Tatum returns hotter than ever and ready for the big "stripper reunion" in Myrtle Beach, SC. Consequently, while I am never a big fan of sequels I have to say that at least this part two, creates its own story with just scant references to the first movie. This makes Magic Mike XXL equally entertaining for those who saw part one and those who did not see the original. It seems, perhaps, the movie works hard to break a few stereotypical thoughts about strippers, moreover, it makes you realize that these are not just a bunch of hot bodied individuals but actual men in pursuit ... What sucks is that they're not including themselves in the purge. If only. Gotham is getting exciting, and "Pretty Hate Machine" is revving us up for the finale. There isn't a single standstill moment in this episode. It carries the action and a strong plot, this is definitely more of their most entertaining episodes of the season. I knew it'd get better, we know from the beginning there is very little canon in Gotham. Other than the character names and protagonist/antagonist identities, Gotham is working from scratch and creating something that's never been written or played out before in live–action. The following is an overview of what happened in "Pretty Hate Machine." The virus is unleashed to purge Gotham Lee has taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Things are looking up. Jada Pinkett Smith is a phenomenal actress. Her character strikes a deathly fear into our hearts, all villains quivered before her. Fear. Yes. Most definitely fear. She breaks into the middle of a stand–off between Nygma and Cobblepot. She saves Penguin from imminent death, however, I don't think he's happier or safer to be in Mooney's hands. Bruce... Has become docile, a zombie, and accepts to aid in the fall of Gotham. The murder of Martha and Thomas Wayne in the catalyst of creating Batman. However, there is a list of traumas behind him as well. Alfred kills off the Shaman responsible for brainwashing Bruce, an action which will impact both Alfred and Bruce. Conclusion A fully packed episode, amazing action sequence, carrying audacious and jaw–dropping moments. A little campy fun between the villains as well. The "buried alive" scene is filled with tension, and it's a nice twist for Jim to take the virus to save himself, instead of the good guys finding him at the last moment. Masculinity is probably short hair and bulging muscles. To you, femininity is probably dressing up in fancy dresses and jewelry, putting on a face of makeup, and going to the nail salon. Femininity is probably long, flowing hair and a slender body. This is not the truth, however. These images have been fed to us by society since the day we were born. Whis is it considered humorous when men dress up as women or women dress up as men? Why is it considered wrong for a person of a certain gender to wear the clothing of another? Why is it that these people –– these other human beings –– are taunted for being themselves? The answer to that is simple. These innocent actions are perceived as "disgusting" and "wrong" in the eyes of society. The arrogance of society has prevented us from pursuing something that would guarantee happiness. They would rather ridicule us than allow us to disturb their perfect little world. All White Oscars Diversity Jada Pinkett Smith, the wife of Will Smith, an actor made a video that went viral calling on other Black actors and actresses to boycott the Oscars because she believes it lacks diversity. The 'All white Oscars nominees' with no Black actors or actresses was seen as racial bias to some African– Americans. They believe that Black actors and actresses have made tremendous contributions to the success of the movie industry, and need to be appreciated on their works just as the white actors and actresses. Everyone deserves to be appreciated, encourage, and recognized on the contributions he makes towards his community. The minority Black people have suffered long enough to be deprived of their respect and acknowledgement in society. The 'All white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 'All white Oscar nominee' also promote or shows that segregation of people of color still exist in the United States. Racial segregation according to the National Humanities Center, was a system derived from the efforts of some white Americans to keep African Americans in a subordinate by denying them equal access to public facilities and ensuring that blacks lived apart from whites This is evident when, Oscars voters are about 91% white and 76% male, according to a new Time study. (Los Angeles Times). Also the major or biggest category of the award nominees are all white, leaving some black actors and actresses at the minor level. Jada believe that if people of color are not given equal treatment just as whites, they should encourage themselves as one powerful people, and put resources together to make a difference in their community. Jada says, "That maybe is time that we recognizes that if we love and respect, and acknowledge ourselves in a way which we are asking others to do that, that is the place of true power." Similarly, Martin Luther King a civil right activist who fought against racial segregation. • 70. The Effects Of Diversity On Hollywood And One Of The Most... There has been many controversies about the lack of diversity in Hollywood and one of the most recent one was the 2016 Oscars. The Oscars is an award show that showcase the best people in front and behind the camera. Unfortunately there was barely any diversity in the nominations this year since most nominators were white, even though there was many diverse films that were considered Oscar worthy. With that being said, people protested that there needs to be more diversity in these categories and some actors agreeing by using the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite in social media. To make things worse, the Academy Awards members are majority older white males which brought to the attention from the protesters that in order to have diversity into the awards, the members itself needs to represent of all races so, it can be considered a fair choice. Which make sense to why throughout history of the Oscars there was always a discrepancy of diversity in the nominations since 1929 because only a very small percentage of minorities actors have received an award compared to the white actors that dominated the Oscars with a high percentage of winners. This created tension in Hollywood that the Oscars are marginalizing itself as a all white program and that there needs to be changes. When the nominations were being announced for the 2016 Oscars, many were surprised of the lack of diversity and the films that were snubbed. One in particular would be Beast of No Nation, which received ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. My Best Day I once heard a quote that T. Roosevelt said. It started with "Believe you can and you're halfway there." I have believed and my life has been already halfway there. On a cool spring day, on May 25, 2005 I was welcomed to the world. I was born an identical twin at 2:29 PM. I was born first. I was referred to as Baby A before I was born. I weighed 6lbs 12oz and 18 ¾ inches. I had to be in the nursery for 12 hours to get more oxygen. I was named after Jada Pinkett Smith. My mom decided on the name and my sister picked me to be named Jada. Many of our family and friends came to hold and see me. That was a day I will never forget. May 25, 2006, was an exciting day for me, my family, and my friends. It was my first birthday! Many friends and family came to our house to celebrate it. Me and Kylie both got a smash cake to dive into. My mom had to show us how to eat the smash cake, because we had no clue what it even was. We dived into the smash cake and I thought it tasted delicious! I had it all in my hair and all over the place. It was the best thing I've ever tasted, because all I ever ate was baby food and that tasted nothing like the smash cake did. When it was time to open presents everyone gathered in the living room and helped us open them. After watching how to open the presents I wanted to try, so I ripped open the presents and I was shocked at all the different presents everyone bought me. The present that I remember the most was these little pink and purple cars. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Set It Off Movie What kind of movies do you enjoy watching with your freetime? Movies to me are stories told from a different point of view for your enjoyment. I personally love all different types of movies but if I had to choose two of my favorites it would be action and dramas. My favorite movie is "Set it Off", because there is a lot of drama and action, there's never a dull moment throughout the entire movie. "Set it Off" was filmed in 1996 it soon became very popular, it also starred many talented actresses such as Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, Vivica Fox etc. It's mostly about four women who were going through hard times and decided to start robbing banks just to get by. At the beginning their robberies were successful, but soon they attract the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anyways this movie doesn't relate to me because I've never robbed a bank but I have felt some of the emotions. At a point of time I was so nervous about doing something I had never done before. But, it couldn't have been as stressful and and nerve racking as about to rob a bank. One time i had got a phone call home in elementary and I thought about what my moms reaction would be when I got home. I was o scared when i got home I didn't even really get in trouble all she did was sit down me and had a long talk. Just that talk made me feel as if I should apologize to my mom and my teacher and get my act together. This movie does also remind me of the time I stole some candy from the corner store when I was 11. I will never forget that day my mom kept saying she was going to call the police, of course she didn't but just to scare me. It worked too, I started crying and saying don't call please I was really scared and thought she was serious. I promised her I would never do it again and I really stuck to it and stayed on the right track. Since then I've never taken anything without permission or unless it was given to me ... • 76. Women in Spike Lee's Bamboozled Our team chose to focus on representations of women in Spike Lee's latest joint, "Bamboozled". This theme was attractive to us because we felt the filmmaker had a powerful message to send his audience after viewing the trailer in class. Despite the fact that there is only one woman in a starring role, a multitude of specific and acute ideas are presented by Spike Lee through the film. We were also eager to take advantage of the opportunity to apply what we have learned in class to the thought–provoking and controversial nature of his work. When reflecting upon representations of women, we felt that a continuous motif of women as puppets is present. The lead female character, Sloan Hopkins, is played by Jada Pinkett Smith. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She feels the need to prove herself to Manray and other characters by explaining her ascent to the top, an internship. This is further illustration of the idea that women have to use their sexuality to get somewhere in life, despite intelligence or determination. If a woman does use her sexuality for personally beneficial reasons she must either defend or hide it. We feel the portrayal of women in "Bamboozled" says a lot about the way they are represented not only in the media, but in capitalistic society. Women are underrepresented in the media, like this film, and the few depictions are generally negative. They are the slut, "yes" woman, or sexual object. There are infrequent representations of women in positions of authority or in assertive roles. We wonder if it's possible for females to overcome these stereotypes in actual society when they are constantly tied down by the strings of their puppeteers. But the question remains, who are the ... • 78. Racism And Income Inequality In The United States Racism and inequalities have existed, exists now, and will be here long after we are gone. However, racism in this country has been diminished greatly, and though it will never be fully eradicated, it is to the point where all races and ethnicities can achieve great things. All aspects of life, such as income levels, success in the arts, and even college entrance are not beholden to systemic racism. It is a person's own drive, personal life choices, and willingness to work hard that determine their level of achievement. Of the many cultures in this country, some are more goal driven and can better thrive in a capitalist society. Then there are some cultures that don't do so well. So, even though racism does exist in the united states, it is not to the point where it grants benefits to white people. There are many factors to income inequality in this country, not all of which are connected to racism, but one's personal choices. The most prevalent factor that contributes to income ... Despite this, the Affirmative Action quota system was implemented in order to promote diversity in places of higher education. Policy makers in this country have gone out of their way to ensure that their illusion of an equal playing field exists. However, in the court case Gratz v. Bollinger, the Supreme Court ruled that the University of Michigan's application was riddled with racial discrimination against non–minorities. Pew Researchers even found that of those personally affected by Affirmative Action, including minorities and non–minorities, 4% benefited while 11% were hurt by its effects. The only beneficiaries were those of the black community while Affirmative Action policies were most detrimental to white ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
