3. ALL ABOUT MR.PALDIP
Mr.Paldip works as a civil
engineer in Jurutera
Perunding Tekadmaju Sdn.
Bhd since 2008. He has 7
years of working
experience. He was offered
to study as a civil engineer
by the government. He
does not want to accept
this offer at first , but after
he was given some time to
think , he realizes that this
job would be the best for
his future. Soon, he begins
his study in a government
university.
Mr.Paldip gets his first job
without an interview due to
his good academic results.
When he first joins the
company , he works as a
junior civil engineer for a
senior civil engineer. He
works mainly in infrastructure
sector. His responsibilities is
problem solving, road
designing & utilizing, bridge
designing & building
construction. He is now a
senior civil engineer, leading
2 junior civil engineers.

4. Civil engineers often have
to plan projects with
architect. They have to
involve themselves in good,
sewage, water declaration
and etc. They also have to
do site visit ,site survey and
client meeting. Besides,
they have to design road
and sewage. They need
approvement from the
authorities before starting
the construction. Civil
engineers have to prepare
tender and reports for their
projects. They seldom work
with geotechnical engineer.
Civil engineers will do the
counting for the cost of the
small projects themselves
as they only need quantity
surveyors on big projects.

5. Responsibilities of
Civil Engineer
JUNIOR
- Follow instructions and
complete the task given by the
senior engineer/boss
- Needs to ask questions more
as they still need to learn
- Can be dependable to the
senior
- Follow the senior
engineers/boss to meetings.
SENIOR
- Plan and delicate works to
junior engineers
- Provide training to the juniors
- Role model to the junior
( independent and pro-active )
- Able to create, articulate,
passionately own and
relentlessly drive a vision to
completion

6. Project : SHOPPINGMALL IN TEMERLOH,
PAHANGDARUL MAKMUR
- The shopping mall is a 2 storey building having foot
print of 137 meter by 57 meter.
- The ground floor is utilized for retail and car park
- The first floor is used for supermarket area.
COMPLETED PROJECT
Cost of the Project : RM 8 million
Scope of work
BIGPROJECT
The proposed development consists of a shopping mall
and a block of shop office.

7. Special Features
- Flat slab system for first floor slab at the shopping mall to
provide higher headroom at ground floor.
- Large span steel roof truss over the mall area:ie.24 meter
span of steel truss

Design

- Proceeded upon confirmation
from client/project team.
- Carry out submission to local
and external authority.
- Compile the authority
requirements and their
comments
- Obtain approval then
proceed to prepare and
tender documents
- Invite tenderers to join the
tender exercise and give
them date line to submit
their quotations
- Prepare tender evaluation
report and submit to client
- Invite a minimum of 3
tenderers to interview

Scope of Work
JPT was appointed by Eco Sy as the civil and structural
consultant for the proposed high rise residential
development :
- Foundation and Structural design of the high-rise
condominium
- Internal cold water and sanitary piping design
- Contract management and site coordination for
piling and main building works

11. We would like to thank Mr. Paldip Singh for
sharing to us about his personal career and
experience as a civil engineer. As we are
coming to an end of this magazine, we
would like to conclude that after going
through an interview with a professional
senior civil engineer, we acquired more
knowledge on one of the professions in
the construction industry. We hope to
continue exploring the construction.
