A student drinks a mysterious liquid found outside a scientist's house and shrinks to a microscopic size. They are scooped up by their friend and end up floating inside a cell. While inside the cell, they observe DNA replication up close. They later work with movie producers to turn their experience into an educational film about DNA replication for other students to learn from.
![` by Shelly Lampkin, OSU-Tulsa Introduction On your way to school one morning you and your best friend are goofing around when you spot a tiny vial of neon orange liquid in the yard of the eccentric scientist who lives down the block. You tentatively pick up the vial and uncork it. To your surprise it smells wonderful, like the cherries they sometimes put in your soda at restaurants. Your best friend dares you drink it, with the promise of buying you an ice-cream at lunch if you do. It’s so tiny, what could it possibly do to you? You chug it. Nothing happens, and you and your friend continue on to school. Another block down the road you start to have to jog to keep up with your friend. Pretty soon, it’s apparent to both of you that you’re shrinking, rapidly. Before long, your besty is able to scoop you up in his hand. He’s terrified of losing you before he can get you to the school nurse, but once at school he opens his hand, and there’s nothing there… But you are there, you’ve shrunk so tiny you have floated to the nucleus of one of the cells in his hand. You’re terrified, but also terribly intrigued. You see up close and personal the working of the DNA, helicase, and DNA polymerase. You have to remember this if you ever get out so you take concise mental notes. Who knows, maybe if you’re lucky you’ll make it out alive and be able to sell your experience to make a movie.
