2. Hello! I am Shalyn
Copas. I am 29 years
old and I live in
Missouri.
3. Special Education Teacher
I am currently teaching Special Education in a functional classroom
with 5th and 6th graders.
I just assumed my position the
beginning of January. I spent
five years as an assistant in a
special needs self-contained
classroom with students who
have severe emotion and
behavior issues.
4. My Education
I finished my undergraduate degree with Ashford
University last January and immediately began the MATLT
program. This is my ninth Master’s course, so I only have
one left! I will be finished the end of April.
5. Personal Interests
My Hobbies include:
Archery
Business and Leadership books
Cooking
DIY crafts
Sewing
Crochet
Zumba
Spinning
Travel
6. Educational Influence
Mr. Simmons was my History and Methods of
Research teacher in high school. He taught me how
to challenge myself and push myself harder
academically. Like most people I had several good
teachers, but Mr. Simmons stands above the rest for
his ability to simultaneously encourage and
challenge. This is something that I now strive to do
as both a teacher and a leader.
7. The Future
I have a few classes to take in order to obtain my teaching
certificate, as I am currently teaching on a provisional certificate.
In five to ten years I would like to begin working on a doctorate.
I eventually would like to start teaching online.
