O’ you who have true faith! Do not raise your voices above the voice of the
Prophet Muḥammad and do not be loud in speaking to him as you speak to one
another for if you do this then all of your good deeds will be made devoid of all
virtue while you do not realize it.
4. PEOPLE SKILLS
• One of the most important discussions in the
science of Akhlaq focuses on “people skills” –
how we relate to and interact with others.
• Western writers on this topic relate many of the
same skills which the Prophet possessed.
• How to Win Friends … has sold over 30 million
copies since its first print.
5. MANNERISMS OF THE PROPHET
1. He was the first in greeting other people.
2. If he wished to speak to a person while in the streets or in a gathering, he would not
speak to them while looking out of the corner of his eyes. Rather, he would turn his
entire body in the direction of that person and then speak to him and while speaking,
he always had a smile on his face.
3. He respected people of all classes and ranks such that each and every person that
met him felt as if he was the most honoured person in the sight of the Prophet.
6. HOW THE PROPHET LIVED
• Sunan an-Nabi
• Written by the late Allamah Sayyid Muhammad
Husayn Tabataba’i
• Translated by Tahir Ridha Jaffer
• Published by Islamic Publishing House

8. LESSONS FROM VERSE 2
1. If we want to train the next generation, we must do so with respect and kindness.
2. We sometimes need to use indirect means to get our point across.
3. A person’s status has a bearing on how we are to interact with them.
4. Must be careful of our religious obligations at all times.

The hearts of those who lower their voices in the presence of the Messenger of
Allāh, Muḥammad, are tested by Allāh through consciousness of Allāh - they will
have forgiveness and a great reward given to them by Allāh.
10. LESSONS FROM VERSE 3
1. Not only should we discipline others when they do something wrong, but must
also encourage them when they do something good.
2. FIRST comes forgiveness, THEN comes a reward – in Allah’s eyes and our world
too!
3. Faith and Piety (Imaan and Taqwa) are not “bubbles” that guarantee that we’ll
never sin – to err is human, but to ask forgiveness is DIVINE.

Unquestionably most of those who call upon you, O’ Muḥammad, from behind the
private chambers of your house [al-Hujurat] do not have any understanding. Had
these people exercised patience until you, Muḥammad, had come out from your
house then it would have been better for them and Allāh is All-Forgiving, All-
Merciful.
12. LESSONS FROM VERSE 4 & 5
1. In some cases, disrespect is unintentional and should be treated by all as such.
2. Disrespecting the chosen men and women of God is something which is addressed
and replied to by Allah.
3. Respect people’s privacy, free time, holidays, etc… as they need time to unwind, relax,
etc.
4. Societal responsibilities must never get in the way of personal/family responsibilities.
