Introduction
Participatory Photography is among research tools using visual research methods for researchers and other professionals, particularly those who are
working on research for social work and community development. In 1997, Carolin Wang and Mary Burris introduced a new methodology called
"Photovoice" which is later sometimes referred to as participatory photography. Since then photovoice has become a popular approach in the field of
participatory photography and it has been applied in many projects worldwide, particularly those focusing on marginalized groups and the socially
excluded. A broad purpose of using photovoice is to get participants ' view and stories on their own perspective by providing them cameras to record
their realities according to any topic they have been given. This literature review was conducted with the aim of understanding why photovoice method

the beginning to the present. Photojournalism developed during the Crimean War, submitted to its evolution throughout the course of the Golden Age,
and eventually settled on its present–day existence today.
Photojournalism was started during the Crimean war by a gentleman named Carol Szathmari. Szathmari was born on January 11th, 1812 as a noble
descent. He first studied as a painter but then became a very enthusiastic traveler. He then began to experiment with photography in 1848, soon after he
filled a wagon with his supplies and followed the war, capturing many battles and important moments. Roger Fenton was also photojournalist who took
pictures of the Crimean War. His mission was to capture evidence that contradicted the description of William Russell, a war correspondent. Russell
was condemning the military's failure to provide sanitary living conditions for the soldiers. Roger Fenton faced many challenges while photographing
the war for four months. Having to develop all of his photos on wet–collodion plates with unclean water proved very demanding. Despite all of his
challenges he was able to be very successful and came back to London with 360 snapshots of the war

The technique Maentz uses is to get close to his subjects and interact with them as he believes that it is important to build relationships and recognize

Photographic journalism has raised ethical questions for as long as it has been around. In it's essence, photojournalism serves to enhance written
and verbal journalism by giving readers and viewers a visual, tangible link to a story. One huge problem that photos can raise is the context they're
used in. For instance, a photo could affect it's audience in complete different ways if it is on the front cover of a magazine or if it's on an inside
page. In 2012, the New York Post published an issue with an image on the front cover that caused a lot of debate. It was a picture of a man that had
been pushed off a subway platform and a train heading straight for him. Perhaps one of the most controversial things about this photo was it's headline:

A photos context must be put under scrutiny as well. Context is all the information about a photo that you couldn't necessarily gather by just looking at
the photo itself such as an attached headline, where a photo is published, who published it, who took the photo, and many other things. This is where the
ethics can get tricky to judge. When looking at the subway photo that the New York Post published the context is where all the conflict truly lies.
Probably one of the first questions that a viewer thinks of when looking at the photo is, "who took it?" With photos like these, ones taken in
moments of life or death, can be hard to defend ethically. The photographer, Umar Abbasi, tells his story by saying that he only captured the
photos as a coincidence. He says that he had his camera on him and, after seeing the man falling, began snapping photo to alert the driver of the
train with his flash (Collins). Another large context point to look in on is the headline that the New York Post used: "doomed" in all caps and
"pushed on the subway track, this man is about to die." Putting aside the insensitivity the headline implies, it seems meant to grab attention. Instead
of saying something like "pushed to his death," they use "this man is about to die" leaving viewers wondering what happened after the photo was
taken. Did someone help the man, did he get out of the way, did the train stop? This alone points to some suspect hedonistic actions taken by the
New York Post. If you saw a paper with a cover like that you are more likely to stop and buy it then to pass it by. By using the headline that the New
York Post did, they really sensationalized the story of the man's death. Subsequently, the focus of all the media became the picture itself being
published instead of the story the picture was accompanying. When looking at Lester's ethical concerns, it is easy to see where
