Stage fear, also known as performance anxiety, is the anxiety, fear, or phobia some people experience when required to perform or speak in front of an audience. Common physical symptoms of stage fear include trembling lips, shaking knees, a fast pulse, nausea, cold hands, sweaty hands, a tight throat, and a dry mouth. While 10% of people feel comfortable performing publicly and 10% feel terrible, 80% experience anxiety but can overcome it. The keys to managing stage fear are having confidence, relaxing, knowing the audience and material well through practice.
