1. Kate’s Place
A community greenspace and wildlife
garden
in memory of Kate Jury
Cowley, Oxford
Kate was hugely active in the community – supporting people, designing and creating beautiful spaces
and connecting people with Nature. Her ground breaking work with Young Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers
at Barracks Lane Community Garden (the Heritage of Common Plants) and at NaturEscape Florence Park
are testament to her care and passion for people, plants, creatures and simply for life!
You can read about some of this on the website of the The Nature Effect CIC
Where Kate was also a Director www.thenatureeffect.co.uk
2. • Friends and Family would like the NaturEscape at Florence Park to
become a permanent legacy of this area of Kate’s work.
• The City Council have agreed to renaming this wildlife garden Kate’s
Place. It is used used by many community groups. You can read more
about it here www.thenatureeffect.co.uk
• You can support by donating now, and there will be opportunities to
attend a celebration event and planting in the Spring of 2024.
3. We are looking to raise between £5K and £20K as a legacy fund to:
• Upgrade the pond
• Improve the pathway for accessibility and to tell a story of the site
• Commission new signage to include a plaque for Kate. ‘Kate’s Place’
• A new commemorative bench
• Create some Bug hotels to encourage biodiversity on the site
7. Renewing the path
• Story telling rounds using stones/cement/objects/pattern
• A bugs trail on the path of the bug… a different bug depicted in each
round
• A trail of different footsteps – humans, fox, birds, squirrel etc
