6. ORGANIZATION THAT PROTECTS WOMEN
The Philippine Commission on Women (formerly the National Commission on
the Role of the Filipino Women), is a government agency run by the
government of the Philippines with the intention of promoting and protecting
the rights of the Women in the Philippines.
AIMS :
• Organizing women into a nationwide movement called "Balikatan sa
Kaunlaran" (now registered as an independent women's organization).
• Conducting policy studies and lobbying for the issuance of executive
and legislative measures concerning women.
• Establishing a clearinghouse and information center on women
• Monitoring the implementation of the UN Convention on the
Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)

7. Other notable women NGOs that have been at the forefront of
the crusade against VAW are:
• SALIGAN (a legal group)
• KALAKASAN (Women Against Violence, an NGO providing shelter
and counseling)
• Women’s Legal Bureau (legal group)
Several networks on VAW such as:
Coalition Against Trafficking in Women focus on the issues of
prostitution and trafficking both locally and internationally. They
hold preventive education seminars and training in communities, among NGOs and
with selected youth groups.
The Philippine Migrants Rights Network on the other hand,
particularly Kanlungan, assists women who are victims of violence in the context of
migration.
One of the major accomplishments of the government in addressing VAW is
the passage of Republic Act No. 9262, otherwise known as the Anti-Violence
Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.

8. WOMEN’S RIGHT MOVEMENT OF THE PHILIPPINES
TO PROTECT women’s rights we shall:
• Provide information on the status, rights and obligations of women in our
country and in other nations.
• Uphold and safeguard the rights of women.
• Remove discrimination, restrictions and limitations on women’s rights and
forestall further imposition of the same.
TO PROMOTE women’s rights we shall:
• Initiate support for women to be elected or appoint to responsible
positions.
• Pursue projects to help improve the quality of family living.
• Obtain legislative and other measures to advance the Movement’s
Objectives.

10. Post-traumatic stress disorder
Many studies have found a link between experiences of sexual
harassment and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD),
which includes re-experiencing the trauma, and avoiding people or things
that may remind the victim of the harassment.
Depression
Victims of sexual harassment can experience long-term depression.
Blood Pressure
The researchers found a significant correlation between sexual
harassment and elevated blood pressure in women. Sexual harassment
may trigger the same type of physiological reactions as stress, which is
thought to raise the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Sleep problems
Sexual harassment has been linked to sleep disturbances
This may be because the stress and anxiety of the event affects sleep
habits. For instance, victims may lie awake at night ruminating about the
event, or the event may be the source of nightmares.

11. Suicide
Of women who had experienced frequent, unwanted sexual touching, 15
percent said they had made suicidal attempts "often" in the past six
months, compared with 2 percent of students that had not experienced
sexual harassment.
