3. The Movie and Theatre club: Shakespeare for kids
has been operating in our school since 2013 and
students have already taken part in several
performances which were presented to the municipal
theatre and to the public of our town. Students who
participate in our club are highly talented in arts
therefore they can act, sing, dance, do handicrafts and
write stories or their own scripts.

12. This year, in commemoration of the 400th year since the
death of the world’s most-performed playwright,
William Shakespeare, I decided to create an after
school club named “Movie and Theatre club:
Shakespeare for kids”.
Some of Shakespeare’s masterpieces were transferred to
cinema and this consists the main reason why our club
is also connected with movies, cinema and CIAK!

13.  Place of sessions: 1st Experimental Primary School of
Alexandroupolis, school library, school theatre
 Number of students: 25, 19 girls and 6 boys
 Teaching hours: 2 hours once a week
 Age of students: 4th, 5th and 6th graders, students
aged 10-12.

14. To create a stimulating and accessible session in which
we support the work done in the classroom while
offering a unique approach to understanding the text
through pupils' practical interaction with skilled
educators and professionals
To create a safe environment in which every pupil will
feel that their contribution is valued
To demystify Shakespeare; making his work accessible
whilst staying true to his style and content
To lay the foundation study for further enthusiastic
study of the work of William Shakespeare

15. By the end of the school year students are expected to have
acquired the following:
a. Cognitive skills
 To come in contact with the Elizabethan theatre
 To get to know the amazing world of theatre and the stage
and learn how to organize a school performance
 To get to know the 7th art or else cinema
 To learn to certify historical information about theatrical
plays by taking part in art workshops, performing plays of
the time, exploring for information about Shakespeare and
his time on the internet, writing small stories, watching
movies and plays and sharing their feelings about the play
and its characters (empathy).

16. b. Emotional skills
 To express their romantic feelings and way of thinking
 To arrive at useful conclusions about life at that time
and nowadays and the influence that the sociopolitical
conditions may have over the creative attitude of
people and the production of important works of art.
c. Social skills
 To familiarize themselves with group work and
collaborative work
 To overcome any differences among them making the
most of their diversity.

17. I strongly believe in the power of team work and
in
Woodrow Wilson’s saying “We should not
only use the brains we have but all that we
can borrow”.
Our club has had the amazing contribution,
help, love and real support of a cluster of
professionals, partners, colleagues and friends.

18. Therefore, after the Historical and Art approach by the teacher
of English, Ms Athi Kafetzi, the students had also had the
chance to get familiar with the Elizabethan theatre and time with
the precious help of:
a. Mara-Maria Karagianni, our beloved teacher of Music of the
school who introduced them to the music of the specific
period of time and adapted musically the love theme song of
Romeo and Juliet.
b. Stavros Mistakidis, architect and partner of our club who
approached architecturally the Elizabethan theatre and
buildings of the time in an interactive way. He is also
responsible for the costumes and theatre props.
c. Eleni Pavlidou, our Arts and Drama teacher, who connected
the theatrical techniques of cinema and theatre and helps us
with our rehearsals.

19. Next semester, the students of our club are going to be
taught the moves of Elizabethan dances , especially
the “dance of the knights”, by the teacher of
Physical Education, Spiros Tsiliggiris.

21. The amazing thing about arts is that when you look at
art, everything tells a story. Art paints a story, ballet
dances a story, music sings a story and literature tells a
story.
And that was the idea of creating this advertising spot of
my club to promote the activities of Shakespeare’s
club.
All students-members of the Club took part in it
memorizing the lines of a famous Shakespeare’s quote
and four of them had the role of the writer while
colouring a picture of a famous Shakespearean play.

22. The Videos were recorded with a personal mobile phone.
The Editing program that was used for editing our club’s
spot is Adobe Premiere Pro 2022.
Crop and Trim in Audio parts were used to stretch some
videos in order to last longer.
Instrumental music was added where required. For
copyright reasons instrumental music or music
adaptations are preferred as opposed to original
soundtracks and contemporary versions of songs.

23. For the creation of a song to be heard during the
performance of one of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet
play, the music instructor of our school created an
adaptation of the song “A time for us”. In this way,
there is no need for copyright use license.
The song is performed by one of the students of our
