3. Reading Curriculum
Stories organized by genre:
(Intro) Historical Fiction, Nonfiction (weather). Traditional
Literature, Biography, Nonfiction
Students will read 2-5 main stories with each genre. They will
also read a comparison selection with each story.
Stories are covered for approximately 1 1/2 weeks with an
assessment at the end of each story.
Assessment has 3 parts:
Vocabulary, Word Analysis, Comprehension
4. Writing Curriculum
Emphasis on writing paragraphs and essays focusing on
the three main modes of writing
(to entertain, inform, persuade)
Collins approach to writing that focuses on students
completing:
TIMED QUICK WRITES to brainstorm (Type 1) or review
graded (Type 2) with √ or -
3 FCAs (FOCUS CORRECTION AREAS) on longer pieces
that pertain to the main purpose and two other specific
areas of instructional focus (from capitalization to
transition words).
