Some information about Marie
3. -Best Known for her work on Radioactivity
and she was twice the winner of the Nobel
prize.
-First Woman to win a Nobel Prize and the
only woman to win the award in two
different fields.(Physics and Chemistry)
Her Awards and Achievement
4. -Her efforts, with her Husband Pierre Curie, led to the
discovery of polonium and radium.
-After her Husband’s Death (RIP), she developed the X-
Rays.
-Fascinated with the work of Henri Becquerel, a French
Physicist, she took his work a few steps further and
discovered that the X-rays remain constant, no matter
what condition or form of the Uranium. She theorized that
the rays came from the element’s atomic structural. The
idea later created the field of Atomic Physics
Her Shocking Discovery
5. -Born in Warsaw in modern-day Poland on November 7, 1867.
-Both her parents were teachers, and she was the youngest of five
children.
-Curie took after her father, Ladislas, a maths and physics instructor.
-When she was 11, her mother died(RIP) due to tuberculosis.
-A top student in Secondary school and she dreamed of going abroad to
earn an official degree but they lacked in Financial resources to pay for
more schooling.
-In 1891, she finally made her way to Paris.
-She completed her Master’s Degree in 1893.
-She later needed to work in a lab and a Colleague introduced her to a
French Physicist, Pierre Curie.
-A romance developed in the pair and they became a Scientific Dynamic
Duo. <3
Her History
6. -She wasn’t encouraged to continue her education
-She wasn’t allowed to attend universities as she was of Polish origin, so she
went to work
-The money she earned from working was used to pay for her sister’s
education and saved whatever she could
-In 1891, when she enrolled in Sorbonne in Paris, she could barely scrape
enough money together to cover her tuition and rent fees.
