3. Maria Skłodowska-Curie had
sisters Zofia who was born in
1861, Helene was born in
1866, Bronisławe was born in
1865 and a brother Józef who
was born in 1863.
4. In 1891, Maria left Poland and
studied physics and mathematics at
the Sorbonne in Paris. Within 3 years,
she obtained BA degrees in physics
and mathematics. There were 66
candidates and one candidate for the
exam, 19 people were awarded the
academic degree. Maria Skłodowska
was the first on the list.
5. Maria won two Nobel prizes for research into
radioactivity and the discovery of two new
elements: polonium and radium. During
World War I, Maria wanted to help the
wounded, so she decided to organize cars in
which she would be able to X-ray people.
Maria Skłodowska-Curie won two Nobel
prizes, one in 1903 in the field of physics and
the other in 1911 in the field of chemistry.
