2. Overview of Upcoming Project We are about to start a project in our classroom called Every“body” is Alike! Every"body" is Alike is a unit on the human body. At the end of this unit students will better understand specific parts of the human body including: head, neck, shoulders, arms, spine, and legs. They will also learn about healthy choices for the body and eventually create a menu for others.
3. Standards and Objectives Standard: Identify parts of the human body, including the head, neck, shoulders, arms, spine, and legs. • Recognizing the importance of a balanced diet for healthy bones Objectives: 1) Students will be able to identify parts of the human body. 2) Students will be able to list healthy foods that will help their bones. 3) Students will create their own skeleton to make up the human body. 4) Students will create a healthy menu for others to demonstrate their knowledge of a balanced diet. **This will benefit your child because they will learn the necessary means of what it takes to maintain a healthy body.
4. Roles Student: I ask that all students participate in all group work. Each group will create a weekly lunch menu for the cafeteria. They will have to be able to explain why they made the choices they did. Parent: Please make sure to encourage your children during this time. Ask them how everything is going and if they need any help. Also, if possible, make sure your child does not miss any school. We also love volunteers for whoever is interested. Teacher: I will be planning the project. I will have many meetings with the groups and make sure everything is going smoothly. I am going to help guide students throughout this project.
5. Project Based Learning Project Based Learning is a way of teaching students through hands on projects. They are much more fun and involving for the students. They are also able to use what they are learning in the real world, and I think that also helps students really see where they will use the information they are learning. They are building 21stCentury Skills. By doing these types of projects, they are not just learning one piece of information; they are learning how to collect data, research, work together with others, and many more useful things.
6. Essential/ Unit/ Content Questions Name an example of something healthy you could eat. Name different ways we can live longer and explain your answer. What are some things that happen if we eat better?
