2. During the design of this presentation our group are very
encouraging souls who are supporting each other in the group.
We cannot stay without giving sincere thanks to them.
We are greatful to our subject teacher Mr. Abhiyan
Bahttarai for playing the role of guidence and giving us such a
presentation which was impossible without him.

3. Concept of Production And Operation Management.
System Approach of Production Function.
Function and Responsibilities of OM.
History of Operation Management.
Types of Production System.
Approaches of Production/OM.
Functions Of Production/OM.
4. Production: It is the act or the process of producing
goods and services.
Operation Management: It is the set of activities that
creates value in the form of goods and services by
transforming input into output.
5. Production Function : It is the process of conversing
input to desired output.
Input Transformation Process Output Distribution
Output
Production Manager: It is the person who is
responsible for carrying out the desired level of carrying
out the desired level of production with available
resource.
6. Human Resource Management : Employment
Management
Assets Management: Organization building, facilities,
equipment etc.
Cost Management: Cost of Acquiring Resources, Cost
of Transforming them, Delivering them to Customer.
7.
8. It can be classified according to nature and quality of output. They
are as follows:
Intermittent Production System:
Goods and Services are produced to fulfill order.
It doesn’t keep stock for future.
Input and conversion process are continuously adjusted and changed
according to the design, shape, size and quantity of output.
Some examples: Workshop, Hospitals, Film Making.
Continuous Production System:
Production is carried out according to sales forecast and stock position.
Standardization of input , process and products are done.
Importance is given to planning, scheduling and controlling activities.
Some examples: Production of FMCG likes soap, biscuits, beers, noodles
etc.
9. Various approaches are:
1. Classical Management. 2. Behavioral Management. 3. Modelling
Management.
Classical Management:
It focuses on efficiency of production core differencing planning function and
working function.
Classical management gives two theories :
Scientific Management: :
o Focuses on economic efficiency of production less affected by external environment.
o It views organization as close system.
o Division of labor, job analysis, separation of planning and doing function are the focus of it.
Process Management :
o It views management as continuous of planning, organizing and controlling.
10. Behavioural Management::
Evolved in 1920.
It highlights that human behaviour in their work environment are complex.
Leadership, motivation, communication affect it.
Thus, understanding employee behaviour is critical concern.
Modelling Management:
It deals with decision making and mathematical modelling.
Decision making consider decision making as primary purpose of
management.
Mathematical modelling focuses on the use of mathematical approach to
solve problems.
11. Planning:
It includes:
o Operation Strategies (Long Run Strategies)
o Product Planning
o Capacity Planning
o Location Planning
Organizing :
It includes:
o Job Design
o Production/Operation Standards
o Work Measurement
o Project Management
12. Controlling:
It includes:
o Material Control
o Inventory
o Managing for Quantity
Behaviour:
It includes:
o Behavioural aspect of planning, organizing and controlling.
13. From this Presentation, We discussed and came to
know about the Production, Operation Management,
Approaches, Functions and Responsibilities of Operation
Management, History Of OM and types of Production
System.
