1. My film will be called ‘Darkest Secret’. I think this
is an intriguing title because it makes the
audience want to figure out what the secret may
be and therefore they are likely to watch the film.
A woman is driving her car home, clearly
but it is unclear to the audience as to the reasons
why. She arrives home and enters the house. She
looks at photographs reminiscing over the memory of the
man in the image (who we learn is her late husband). She
opens a number of cards, before going to sort through his
belongings. She is interrupted by a phone call – her friend has
called to find out how she is doing. She then continues to look
through his belongings and discovers a box file hidden where
she finds photos and other belongings together with a list of
names. She takes the names and goes to her laptop. She
Googles the first name – nothing. The second also reveals
nothing. The third name brings up a missing person article.
She phones her friend back, trembling, she explains to Kate
that she thinks her husband had killed someone. Jane then
says that she has a decision to make, and must decide how to
preserve the memory of her husband. She either is to bury
the truth and destroy the evidence or the truth must be
revealed. It then cuts to a shot of her outside with the
photo of the young girl in her hand. She lights the corner of
the image and throws it on the fire to burn the evidence. She
was not prepared to let the truth come out.
TA – around 25-40 years old since the film deals with an emotional topic throughout. Aiming it at this age
range will make it more relatable because they are more likely to be able to relate and empathise with the
protagonist.
Likely to be c1 & c2 of NRS scale of lower middle class and skilled working class.
In relation to Bulmer & Katz, they are likely to watch for diversion from their everyday life, but also to build
personal relationships whereby they may connect with the protagonist and feel like they know her.
On the 4C’s scale they are likely to be in the ‘Reformer’ category since they will make their own judgement
on the characters and whether he is guilty of the crimes and think about the questions raised in the film.
DAVID
He is the late husband of the protagonist.
The audience do not know the cause of his
death however they can assume it was
somehow linked to the shocking revelation
that could be made public if there is
sufficient evidence to reopen the case.
The audience are only able to relate to him
through photographs so they do not have
the opportunity to build personal
relationships with him in the same way as
Kate.
The audience will typically form a negative
opinion of him since they will assume he is
guilty, though it is never actually
confirmed.
she will be a very
every day relatable
character.

KATE – PROTAGONIST
She is 45 years old and works as an
office worker, so on the NRS scale she
would be in section c1.
The audience see the vulnerability in
her character which will allow them to
build personal relationships with her as
She is a loyal character and believes in strong
family values. In the filmwe learn she is a
very devoted wife and even once she
discovers the secrets of her late husband, she
still chooses to remain steadfast in her
support of his character.
Her outfit will include neutral colouring such
as grey because I think it is typically
associated with loss or depression. In addition
it can be described as dreary and gloomy
mirroring the mood.
Printed images – I will be using
printed images for the protagonist to
be looking through
Laptop – she will also be using a
laptop to look through more images
as well as to google the case
iPhone – this will be used for the
phone. call with her friend
I am aiming for my
film to be
approximately 10
minutes long. But to
ensure I fit with the
brief it will be
between
5-10 mins.
