Analyzing the External Environment
External Analysis and the Wine Industry*
Analyzing the External environment is important in the strategic decision making for the organization in that these factors will affect the company's
choice of direction and its internal processes. There are two specific categories of the external environment factors that will be discussed, the remote
environment and the industry environment. The remote environmental factors important to the success of the organization are the economic, political,
technological factors. In order to create their strategic action plan, the company must also have a clear understanding of its competitive forces included
in the industry environmental factors. The factors the company must look at are the entry barriers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By utilizing the Internet channel, the winery could open up doors to new business. Another remote factor of mention is the need for increasing
technological advancements in the wine industry. The organization is constantly looking for ways to promote innovation in the vineyards as well as
in the winemaking process to decrease production costs while increasing production. Forecasting for technology is a necessity for increased quality
and profits. For example, the company has invested in infrared vineyard technology that when downloaded to a computer, can generate valuable
information regarding the ripeness of the grapes from vineyard row to vineyard row. This infrared camera is used from an airplane to capture this
data, allowing the winery to pick the grapes at their optimal ripeness, thus producing higher quality wines. Another technological advancement in the
vineyard is the use of the "pressure bomb". This device measures the water content in the vine so that the vineyard manager can gauge when to irrigate
and when not to. Again, this technological device is working to produce higher quality grapes. The company has also purchased a "double grape
sorter", a new invention which will re–sort the grapes for inferior grapes and stems that can add negative elements to the wine. By forecasting for
technological instruments, the company can stay on top of the industry trends and increase quality production. Besides remote

The fact that the earth's atmosphere is constantly eroding is not a secret. Human consumption is the main culprit. It is paramount that the occupants of
this planet develop an in depth plan to halt the destruction of and reconstruct the atmosphere. "Environmental politics has become a major feature of
the nation's political landscape during the past several decades. (Hays,1)" The purpose of this paper is to explore environmental politics from its
creation, to the Al Gore years, and evaluate legislation at the national to state level, thus affecting local efforts. Discussion United States Environmental

The Importance Of The Environmental Justice Act Of 2016
I urge you to support the "Environmental Justice Act of 2017" that requires the commitment of federal agencies with environmental justice to eliminate
the environmental disparity for communities most affected. Minority and low–income communities often suffer a disproportionate share of
environmental costs that may lead to detrimental health outcomes. As a college student in Boston, my name is Ashley Chin and I support the
"Environmental Justice Act of 2017". Access to quality healthcare, environment, and income levels are important factors in an individual's health. Toxic
waste dumps are often located in poor communities where regulating governing toxics are weak or nonexistent. This act will help greatly help the

Imperial County and the Salton Sea communities live in poverty. According to state public health figures in 2015, roughly 12,000 children have been
diagnosed with a chronic respiratory illness. This toxic air pollution mix of automobile exhaust, heavy winds, use of pesticides from commercial farms,
and the area's desert heat will worsen when the Drought Contingency Plan (DCP) reduces diversions from the Colorado River to California, Arizona,

The Causes And Effects Of Air Pollution In California
Living in California, not many people see the air quality. California is known for the beaches, the sun, the many opportunities and adventures that this
beautiful state has to offer. What many do not realize is the pollution that California has accumulated over the years. With the state rapidly growing, the
need for food, transportation, products, have been increasing. In this case, children are the ones the state need to realize that it directly affects them. As
such, breathing in the toxins and increase greater chances of breathing problems or even cancer. As a whole, the pollution does not only hurt the
residents of the state, but the revenue may decrease if air quality gets to the point of no return as well as the economy trying to find ways to reduce
pollution. Even though there are existing policies to limit such emissions into the atmosphere, companies are either finding a way to loop pool around
such policies or the implementation is not as strong as the government should push it to be. The history of pollution can be noted back from the
permanent settlement of humans. However, one of the most significant changes in air pollution occurred when the first oil well was drilled in 1859. In
doing so, these wells burned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. Moreover, as gasoline engines advanced, lead became part of the
greenhouse gases that are emitted. By 1874, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) was synthesize, contributing to the massive

Air Pollution in California
Air Pollution in California In the 1940's California was supporting a population of seven million people and contained 2.8 million registered vehicles.
Within the next twenty years the population more than doubled to reach 16 million while the number of registered vehicles all but tripled increasing to
eight million. This has been a common trend in California's documented history from the early twentieth century to today. There have been many
historical and environmental factors that have assisted in contributing to increases such as these in California. One such factor was World War II, from
the late 1930's to 1945, which triggered a boom in the population of California and the beginning of the urban sprawl. Increases in... Show more content

The California Foundation For Commerce And Education Essay
The California Foundation for Commerce and Education (CFCE), as a think tank affiliated with California Chamber of Commerce, is seeking to
identify market–based, non–subsidized solutions to the crisis of housing affordability in California. CFCE prioritizes the coastal metropolitan region
in California to be the geographical focus of the research. Lack of housing supply is the major issue that leads to the crisis of housing affordability.
As a group, we will be researching solutions of providing greater housing supply in California. Our first step is to identify the issue and the multiple
causes that contribute to the problem. In addition to memos provide by team members that focus on components of housing supply shortage in
California generally, this memo will focus on the supply shortage in coastal metros of California, including a comprehensive view of the
consequences and causes of the issue. OVERVIEW The affordability of housing is one of the most critical factors that determine the well being for
Californians. Housing affects people's lives in terms of education, recreation and choices for jobs. On the state level, the cost of housing has important
impact on California economy, affecting the extent to which employers are able to hire and retain workers and influencing their preferences on
whether to work and remain in California. The cost of housing is high in California. Home prices are much higher than they are in other densely

Bay Environmental Issues
In this essay I would like to discuss the serious existing environmental problem– the air pollution – and to explore its aspects as well as to provide
possible solutions I see for the resolution of this particular environmental problem.
The air is an important attribute for the existence of the life on our planet. Without air there would be no life possible. Therefore by endangering the
air we are putting our own lives in danger as well. So how the air pollution takes the place and how we can solve this environmental threat?
The main reason of air pollution is an exposion of toxic and unnatural chemicals into the air. These chemicals are created due to exhaust gas, factory
smoke, emissions from industries, farming chemicals, etc. The activities such as garbage burning or natural disasters such as forest fires or hurricanes
pollute the air as well.
In my opinion, the best way to deal with the existing problem is to find the balance between human activity and nature. ... Show more content on

California Preservation Regulatory System
California historic preservation legislature system is contrary to that of New York state. The historic preservation of property in California starts
with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) adopted in 1971 and is largely modeled on the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969
(NEPA). Hence, California courts generally look to NEPA case law for guidance. CEQA is the most important state law for the protection of historic
properties and its statement of legislative intent states that it is the "policy of the state to . . . take all action necessary to provide the people of this
state with . . . enjoyment of aesthetic, natural, scenic, and historic environmental qualities." It also refers to historic resources in defining "environment
." I would like to note here that the aesthetic qualities is a factor that has a potential to weighing in favor of building an extension for the modern street
art protection law. One of the most significant features of CEQA is the detailed amount of regulation provided by the State Environmental Impact

On October 23, 2015 a massive release of natural gas from Well SS–25 leaked at the Aliso Canyon Natural Gas Storage Facility operated by Southern
California Gas Company ("Aliso Canyon Gas," 2016). The leak persisted for approximately 16 weeks, expelling natural gas, toxic pollutants,
hazardous chemicals and poisonous odors into the Porter Ranch community in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles County ("Porter
Ranch," 2016). The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) reported over 700 hundred complaints of health symptoms associated
with odors from the leak from nearby residents ("Aliso Canyon," 2016). According to an article from Live Science, methane is "a simple
hydrocarbon made up of one carbon atom and four hydrogen atoms, and is produced when microorganisms called methanogens combine carbon
dioxide and oxygen" ("5 Facts,"n.d.). Methane is primarily used to produce heat and light, which can be found in homes, such as cooking or heating.
Methane is an explosive gas that if it is exposed to the air, it can change the climate. It can also result to global warming, being that it is the second
greenhouse gas to carbon dioxide, according to an article from the ARM Climate Research Facility website. Not only has the gas leak affected
residents in Southern California, but also schools that were in the area. The article continues to state that if the gas continues to arise, workers would
have to discontinue their job due to health risk. On November 19,

Water Pollution Control Act
Before the twenty first century the United States government pass laws that have been beneficial to water pollution. The earliest action that the
government took in regards to water pollution is the Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1948. Which was the first major U.S. law to address water
pollution. According to the Federal Water Pollution Control Act article this act was passed to eliminate or reduce pollution that was carried on between
state's water and to improve sanitary conditions of surface and underground water. The act would have had a positive impact on the state because it
was going to eliminate water pollution in all the states. This act did not succeed, in 1972 they had to modified it adding amendments to it calling it the
Clean Water Act. According to the article, History of the Clean Water Act this act was pass to eliminate the pollutant that are in the nation's surface
waters including lakes, river, streams, wetlands, and coastal areas. This demonstrate that the government does take charge of this issue because they
kept modifying the act when it did not succeed. In 1990 Congress passed the Pollution Prevention Act. According to the Pollution Prevention Act article
it states that they want to increase the interested in reducing pollution or preventing it. According to this act it is the policy of the U.S. to prevent or
reduce pollution. If they can not prevent pollution then the should treat the environment in a safe manner. In conclusion all of these

The Causes And Effects Of Urbanization : Water Quality
Urbanization: Water Quality Humans have been innovating their surrounding for thousands of years. The agricultural and industrial revolution have
been seen competing side by side all throughout history. Urbanization has become a tool and weapon to society throughout the importance of
population growth and environmental concerns. "Human activities associated with land uses, including agricultural activities, land development,
industrial discharge, residential sewage, and urban runoff can cause surface water degradation, so land use planning and management is very important
for water environment protection." (Spatial Variations...in the Watersheds of Northern Georgia, USA) Urbanization is the process where an increasing
percentage of population lives in cities and suburbs. This process is often linked to the effects brought on by industrialization and modernization.
According to UN–Habitat, 70% of the world's constantly growing population is expected to live in urban areas by 2050; and of that 81.6% of the
United States population will be categorized as urban. (UN–Habitat) Background Information Urbanization brings both environmental devastation and
economic growth to the area being urbanized. Humans have been changing the way objects are produced, initialized, and interpreted for thousands of
years before urbanization was defined; it is simply human nature. Urbanization began in ancient Mesopotamia during the Uruk period leading to their

The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) experience in India indicates that the lack of timely availability of reliable and authentic environmental
data has been a major bottle neck in achieving the full benefits of EIA. The environment being a multi–disciplinary subject, a multitude of agencies is
involved in collection of environmental data. However, there is no single organization in India which tracks the data available amongst these agencies
and makes it available in one place, in a form and manner required by practitioners in the field of environmental impact assessment in India. Further, the
environmental data is not available in value added forms that can enhance the quality of the EIA. This in turn adversely affects the time and efforts

impacts of their actions. It also requires that they avoid these actions and mitigate negative environmental impacts from their actions whenever possible.
An Overview of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
CEQA is the state's broadest environmental law. It provides guidance to the Department in regards to issuing permits and approving projects. It is
interpreted by the courts to provide the fullest protection of the environment without venturing outside the statutes of California. It is applied to any
discretionary project proposed to or approved by a California public agency. The scope of CEQA includes private projects that require discretionary

The United States of America for two centuries has been at the forefront of new ideas, from the major changes like challenging the construct of
monarchical rule, to pushing the boundaries of technological capabilities in space flight. In recent months it seems this generally progressive outlook
on complex and challenging issues has regressed. The significant recent change in Presidential administrations has to lead to deregulation of
well–intentioned environmental standards within the automobile market causing unpredictable future market volatility, irreversible environmental and
social costs, and the questioning of the role of the public and scientists in environmental policymaking.

Essay On Environmental Degradation In Southern California
Environmental Degradation in Southern California
In the United States, Southern California is among the top cities ranked as having the worst air quality. According to the American Lung Association
statement released annually, California has always been among the most polluted cities in the US in comparison to other states and the federal clean air
act health standards. There are two primary air pollution agents in the city which include stationary sources and the transportation sources (Bereitschaft,
Bradley and Keith Debbage, 612).
The stationary sources are such as industrial facilities and oil refineries while the transportation agents include trucks and cars. In comparison to other
cities in U.S, those in California have too many cars. For instance, Los Angeles has too many vehicles exceeding the carrying capacity of the area
which plays a role in the horrible air pollution of Southern California. The burning of fossil fuels from the industrial facilities and exhaust pipes of the
vehicles lead to the formation of a ground level ozone. Over a period, the deteriorating of the air quality in California has resulted in greater health
risks among residents.
Poor air quality is associated with some health issues from the short–term problems to severe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides, the warm climate in California also contributes to the formation of ozone pollutions. These pollutants lead to ozone smog and fine particulate
matter. It is this ozone smog that is responsible for the problems in breathing, chest pains throat irritations, and asthma. On the other hand, the
particulate matter is small in diameter, and just like the ozone, it is triggered by the fuel combustion in vehicles and industries. When these little
particles are formed, they are now responsible for the lung diseases and premature deaths (Dawson, John P., et al.

Geothermal Energy Is Heat Energy Coming From The Earth
1. Introduction
Geothermal energy is heat energy coming from the Earth. Geothermal energy is relatively cost effective, reliable, and friendly to the environment, but
is limited to some specific areas. Recent technology development has greatly expanded the range and size of geothermal energy resources. Now the
geothermal energy can be also used for applications such as home heating, which add use potential for the resource. Although, tapping geothermal
energy will release some gas pollution which are originally trapped deep inside the earth, these emissions are much lower than those of fossil fuels.
Therefore, geothermal energy is a kind of potential energy and may help to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions of the earth.
California, with its location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," has great potential of geothermal energy, which can easily meet the consumption of electricity
for 100,000 residents. According to EIA [1], the monthly average consumption per person is 557kWh, we can get,
Total Capacity = (557 Г—12 kWh/yearГ—100,000)/(365 Г—24 Г—0.92h/year) = 83 MW
Therefore, our geothermal power plant capacity is 83MW.
2. Resource Definition

Section 3: How This Case Relates TO CEQA In this case the plaintiff, CBD, litigated CDFW on the following principles of CEQA: rules governing
PEIRs, baseline setting, deferral of mitigation and alternative analysis. In regards to PEIRs it is defined by CEQA as an "EIR which may be
prepared on a series of actions that can be characterized as one large project and are related [among other possibilities] ... [a]s individual activities
carried out under the same authorizing statutory or regulatory authority and having generally similar environmental effects which can be mitigated in

The exception states that "measures may specify performance standards which would mitigate the significant effect of the project and which may be
accomplished in more than one specified way." (CEQA Guidelines, 15126.4, subd. (a)(1)(B).) In addition, it was concluded through a prior case that
"when for practical reasons, mitigation measures cannot be fully formulated at the time of project approval, the lead agency may commit itself to
devising them at a later time, provided the measures are required to satisfy specific performance criteria articulated at the time of project approval"
(Sacramento Old City Assn. v. City Council (1991) 229 Cal.App.3d 1011, 1028–1029.) Finally, in regards to alternative analysis the purpose of a no
project alternative "is to allow decision makers to compare the impacts of approving the proposed project with the impacts of not approving the
proposed project" (CEQA GUIDELINES, 15126.6, subd. (e)(1).) In this court case if the project "is the revision of an existing land use or regulatory

California Department Of Transportation ( Caltrans ) Essay
Thank you for providing the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) the opportunity to review and comment on the Initial Study and
Notice of Preparation of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the City of Colton Roquest Ranch Specific Plan (Project), located west of La
Cadena Drive and north of Center Street in the City of Colton. The project proposes to develop the 336.2–acre site with up to 1,050 residential
dwelling units, 1.2 acres of neighborhood commercial use, 22.3 acres of recreational open space, 199.7 acres of open space, a 0.8–acre fire station site,
and a 10.3–acre school site.
As the owner and operator of the State Highway System (SHS), it is our responsibility to coordinate and consult with local jurisdictions when proposed
development may impact our facilities. As the responsible agency under the California Environmental Quality Act, it is also our responsibility to make
recommendations to offset associated impacts with the proposed project. Although the project is under the jurisdiction of the City of Colton, due to the
project's potential impact to the State facilities, including Interstate 10, Interstate 215, State Route 60, and State Route 91, it is also subject to the
policies and regulations that govern the SHS.
In the preceding Environmental Impact Report (EIR), we recommend a scoping meeting prior to the preparation of the Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA)

Twin tunnels Essay
The Twin Tunnels, proposed by the Governor of California jerry Brown, are two tunnels that would run from the delta to Southern California. The
project would make two tunnels, each about 20–40 feet in wide and around 35 miles long, that would be 150 feet beneath the Delta. The Twin Tunnels
will be extremely expensive especially to taxpayers and very destructive to the Delta's ecosystems. Much of California opposes them. The goal of the
Twin Tunnels is to divert water from the Sacramento River, and around the Bay and delta area to distribute it to San Joaquin Valley agriculture
business and also Southern California's cities and surrounding areas. The total cost of the project is estimated to be above $69 billion. ... Show more

Also, The "Twin Tunnels" will most likely require a suspension of the "California Clean Water Act" and the "California Water Code" because it will
make the water that is in the delta unusable for a period of time which again would just be ignored. Governor Jerry Brown one said that he "...never met
an exemption from the "California Environmental Quality Act" that he didn't like," but it is still highly unlikely that with these things that would
happen that they would just go exempt. By almost any project analysis, the Twin Tunnels pose a huge threat to the Delta's fisheries which would not
pass with California's current laws. The project would shut high quality Sacramento River off from the city and send the water under the Delta to the
south, leaving the delta and surrounding areas with flows of heavily polluted water from the San Joaquin River. These reduced flows and higher
contaminant levels of pesticides, herbicides, which would cause ill for the salmon, steelhead and many other species that are important to the
commercial and recreational fisheries of the surrounding area. The San Joaquin is already set aside as an "impaired water body" by the "State Water
Resources Control Board and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency"; the Twin Tunnels may only turn this worsening situation into disaster.

The Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan Essay
What is the DRECP?
When Obama was elected President of the United States, he promised to protect the environment we live in. His Climate Action Plan set out to
increase energy efficiency, reduce carbon pollution and expand of renewable energy sources. To accomplish a part of this, the government announced
approval of an action plan, the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan 'DRECP'. The DRECP is a landscape–level plan focusing on renewable
energy and conservation on 22.5 million acres of California desert land. The plan stretches over seven California counties, including Los Angeles, San
Diego and San Bernardino. The DRECP was developed in a joint effort by government agencies such as, theBureau of Land Management and the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service. Local governments, renewable energy developers and environmental organizations were also involved. The DRECP goals
could be split up into three major categories.
For renewable energy development, the Plan hopes to identify a common planning goal of producing 20,000 megawatts by 2040, involving a range
of different renewable energy technologies. To locate new renewable energy development focus areas with suitable energy resources as well as
updating existing renewable energy sites. DRECP's focus for the ecological side is to "preserve, restore, and enhance natural communities and
ecosystems and conserve sensitive species" (What is DRECP, 2016). As well as to locate development focus areas on disturbed lands with little

create a situation of stress between the urban residents and the people in agriculture. The Order can also decline the credibility and the effectiveness of
California State Laws. To minimize the negative impact of executive order 2016 various amendments can be introduced using different laws and public
policy. For instance, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) helps to reduce damage to environment by creating alternatives and monitoring.
CEQA also guide department while issuing new projects. Another purpose of CEQA is to communicate the effectiveness of the project/ proposals to
the public. Public Policies such as CEQA can help to communicate the benefits of the Sample Drought Executive Act 2016. This should be showcased
that CEQA supports California Energy Commission to approve new sources of water energy.

Pros And Cons Of Student Loan Fraud
Student Loan Fraud
In February, 2017, the United States District Court in Florida entered a final judgement in a civil trial against FastTrain College, a for–profit college
chain, for falsifying documents used to defraud the Department of Education of more than $12 million (Office of Inspector General, 2017). The owner,
Alejandro Amor, and the school falsified documents to receive federal funding through the Federal Pell Grant Program, the Federal Direct Loan
Program, the Federal Family Education Loan Program, among others which provide federal assistance to students. The school used predatory practices
to entice non–eligible prospective student to lie on their federal student loan applications to receive federal funding, most of which went directly to the
school and Amor. Two years earlier, a judge convicted Amor in a criminal trial for conspiracy to steal government funds and theft of government funds,
leading to a 97–month jail sentence. Student loan fraud makes it more difficult for eligible students to receive federal aid in getting a higher education.
Additionally, the United States government loses millions of dollars of taxpayer money to fraudulent student loan schemes and is unlikely to recover the
total amount lost.

Geothermal Energy Is A Kind Of Energy
1. Introduction
Geothermal energy is a kind of energy that provided by the heat of our planet, the Earth. The cost of geothermal energy is low, and it is reliable and
friendly to the environment, but is limited to some specific areas. Recent technology development has greatly expanded the range and size of
geothermal energy resources. Now the geothermal energy can be also used for applications such as home heating, which add use potential for the
resource. Although, tapping geothermal energy will release some gas pollution which are originally trapped deep inside the earth, these emissions are
much lower than those of fossil fuels. Therefore, geothermal energy is a kind of potential energy and may help to reduce emissions of greenhouse of
the earth and of the pollution to the environment.

The Great Expansion Of The 20th Century Essay
By the turn of the 20th century, both agricultural interests and large urban cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles needed more water for its rapid
growth. In all this great expansion of aqueducts and dams, concerned citizens like John Muir proclaimed that more must be done to protect the
majesty and beauty of California before it is all gone. Inspired by the writing of Henry David Thoreau, which published Walden, a landmark book on
the topic of environmentalism, and his years exploring and camping in the Sierra Nevada wilderness, Muir began to gather like–minded scientists and
thinkers in San Francisco. Efforts by Muir and the formation of his Sierra Club in the 1890s eventually met with success in convincing the federal
government to protect the Yosemite Valley from logging and grazing interests, preserving the area into a newly formed forest reserve concept of a
national park (Fox, p. 106). Muir had less success in preserving the sister valley of Hetch Hetchy, which eventually was dammed and flooded to use as
a reservoir for the inhabitants of San Francisco.
Up till the 1950s, environmental activism was fractured among diverse groups with diverse causes: water quality, overpopulation, air quality, clean
beaches, toxic wastes, pesticides, endangered wildlife. Yet, in 1950, the Sierra Club, led by native Californian David Bower, eventually secured its
national reputation in the battle against another massive dam proposal, this time the Echo Park Dam project in Utah.

The impact of the Act was a big move for the country. EPA put a great amount of focus on this Act to help the people around the country, not only
the people who live back then but the people who will benefit from this Act. Currently, most people did not have any idea why their drinking water
came from a double filtration system and why do they have to filter the water they are drinking. Water is essential to human body and human body
should be nourished with a clean water. Water is essential to human and other living things. In human body, water play certain roles like solvent,
transportation and regulation of temperature and pH. In chemistry, we named water as the universal solvent. It plays the same role in the human body
as well. In transportation, water circulates inside our body while carrying nutrients, oxygen and some other chemical elements. When a person
overdid an exercise, our body temperature rises up. For our body to cooldown, we need to exert water that is lost as sweat and this "serves as coolant in
our body." The

considered protective for the Clean Water Act for federal decree.
What is being amended is the federal regulations to withdraw human health criteria for chlorodibromomethane and dichlorobromomethane for a

Human Activities Have Impacted Rivers Since The Birth Of...
Human activities have impacted rivers since the birth of civilization. For millennia, water from rivers has been, used, re–used, diverted, depleted,
polluted, sold, flushed, fought for, stolen, ruled, exchanged and more. To understand what affects the quality and quantity of water for The Los Angeles
River, we must understand the water sources that charge and shape the River's watershed. Moreover, we must also understand the Los Angeles River
and its interaction with the environment. You see, as the River moves downgradient (downhill), it interconnects with its environment, both man–made

In other words, areas of higher elevation see a lot more rainfall than areas of lower elevation. At higher elevations, the Los Angeles river tributaries
are dominated by natural flows, which are seasonally affected by rain and snowfall. On the lower elevations, where most of the population lives,
water to the River is supplemented by effluent and urban runoff. The latter changes the profile of the river from a body of water that is ephemeral, to
a body of water that is permanent. Interestingly, because Los Angeles County depends heavily on imported water, water from the Colorado River and
the Eastern Sierra Nevada indirectly ends up being part of the Los Angeles River. In the name of conquering the west, humans in the Western United
States have long exerted control of bodies of water, the Los Angeles River is yet another example. Natural water resources for the River during rainy
months flow from the following mountain ranges: Santa Susana Mountains, the Verdugo Hills, and the Northern side of the Santa Monica Mountains.
During dry months, effluents dominate the river in the coastal plane. Recycled water is tertiary–treated effluents that go through at least three stages of
purification to remove more than 99 percent of all the impurities to produce an effluent of almost drinking–water quality. The water reclamation plants
that provide effluent to the River

Environmental Impact Assessment(Eia)

Statement(EIS).
INTRODUCTION : DEFINITION :
An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an assessment of the possible positive or negative impact that a proposed project may have on the
environment, together consisting of the environmental, social and economic aspects.
PURPOSE :
The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision makers consider the ensuing environmental impacts when deciding whether to proceed with a
project. The International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) defines an environmental impact assessment as "the process of identifying,
predicting, evaluating and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the methods are GMP–RAM, INOVA etc.[8] Fuzzy Arithmetic– EIA methods need specific parameters and variables to be measured to
estimate values of impact indicators. However many of the environment impact properties cannot be measured on a scale e.g. landscape quality,
lifestyle quality, social acceptance etc. and moreover these indicators are very subjective. Thus to assess the impacts we may need to take the help of
information from similar EIAs, expert criteria, sensitivity of affected population etc. To treat this information, which is generally inaccurate,
systematically, fuzzy arithmetic and approximate reasoning methods can be utilised. This is called as a fuzzy logic approach.[9]
At the end of the project, an EIA should be followed by an audit. An EIA audit evaluates the performance of an EIA by comparing actual impacts to
those that were predicted. The main objective of these audits is to make future EIAs more valid and effective. The two main considerations are:
scientific – to check the accuracy of predictions and explain errors. management– to assess the success of mitigation in reducing impacts.
Some people believe that audits be performed as a rigorous scientific testing of the null hypotheses. While some believe in a simpler approach where

Essay on Air Pollutants
A fleet of vehicles will have far reaching impacts; perhaps best known by the general public is the impact on air quality.
Air pollutants may be released in a number of ways: first through evaporation during fueling, second through tailpipe emissions while a car is running,
and third through chemical reactions occurring with byproducts or unused components emitted into the atmosphere.(Motor vehicles and toxic air
pollutants. 2008) Typical chemicals released include benzene, toluene, xylenes, diesel particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds.(Motor

According to a 2005 study, air pollution may be estimated to be responsible for 3% of adult cardiopulmonary disease mortality; 5% of trachea and
bronchus mortality; and in children 1% of mortality from acute respiratory infections in urban areas throughout the world.(Cohen et al., 2005)
Air pollutants from a fleet of vehicles may also cause environmental impacts such as the creation of ground level ozone, a key component of smog,
and the emission of greenhouse gases suspected of causing drastic changes in the earth's climate. (Transportation and air quality planning: Federal laws
provide tools for change. 2008)
To combat these threats, federal and state level policies have been put in place to help monitor and reduce air pollution. Perhaps the most far reaching
of these was the 1990 Clean Air Act which required the reformulating of gasoline and set emission standards from hydrocarbons and diesel particulate
matter. Subsequent amendments to this act required the removal of lead from gasoline and limitations to the amount of sulfur in diesel fuel. (Air toxics

converters.(Motor vehicles and toxic air pollutants.2008) Specific federal government

  • 2. Analyzing the External Environment External Analysis and the Wine Industry* Analyzing the External environment is important in the strategic decision making for the organization in that these factors will affect the company's choice of direction and its internal processes. There are two specific categories of the external environment factors that will be discussed, the remote environment and the industry environment. The remote environmental factors important to the success of the organization are the economic, political, technological factors. In order to create their strategic action plan, the company must also have a clear understanding of its competitive forces included in the industry environmental factors. The factors the company must look at are the entry barriers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By utilizing the Internet channel, the winery could open up doors to new business. Another remote factor of mention is the need for increasing technological advancements in the wine industry. The organization is constantly looking for ways to promote innovation in the vineyards as well as in the winemaking process to decrease production costs while increasing production. Forecasting for technology is a necessity for increased quality and profits. For example, the company has invested in infrared vineyard technology that when downloaded to a computer, can generate valuable information regarding the ripeness of the grapes from vineyard row to vineyard row. This infrared camera is used from an airplane to capture this data, allowing the winery to pick the grapes at their optimal ripeness, thus producing higher quality wines. Another technological advancement in the vineyard is the use of the "pressure bomb". This device measures the water content in the vine so that the vineyard manager can gauge when to irrigate and when not to. Again, this technological device is working to produce higher quality grapes. The company has also purchased a "double grape sorter", a new invention which will re–sort the grapes for inferior grapes and stems that can add negative elements to the wine. By forecasting for technological instruments, the company can stay on top of the industry trends and increase quality production. Besides remote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Importance Of The Environmental Justice Act Of 2016 I urge you to support the "Environmental Justice Act of 2017" that requires the commitment of federal agencies with environmental justice to eliminate the environmental disparity for communities most affected. Minority and low–income communities often suffer a disproportionate share of environmental costs that may lead to detrimental health outcomes. As a college student in Boston, my name is Ashley Chin and I support the "Environmental Justice Act of 2017". Access to quality healthcare, environment, and income levels are important factors in an individual's health. As of 2014, the highest rates of adult and childhood asthma in the United States are experienced by 7.8% of the population in California, which is roughly 2,279,568 individuals. The rate of asthma sufferers in Southeast California is especially alarming, where roughly a quarter of the residents in Imperial County and the Salton Sea communities live in poverty. According to state public health figures in 2015, roughly 12,000 children have been diagnosed with a chronic respiratory illness. This toxic air pollution mix of automobile exhaust, heavy winds, use of pesticides from commercial farms, and the area's desert heat will worsen when the Drought Contingency Plan (DCP) reduces diversions from the Colorado River to California, Arizona, and Nevada, blocking a large portion of the Colorado River water that flows into the Salton Sea and causing an innumerable amount of economical issues. This legislation will empower the population in Southeastern California to engage and take action to protect their homes, schools, and neighborhoods. Woking in solidarity, the "Environmental Justice Act of 2017" will give people a voice in meaningful discussion about environmental health issues to make an impactful change. • 6. The Causes And Effects Of Air Pollution In California Living in California, not many people see the air quality. California is known for the beaches, the sun, the many opportunities and adventures that this beautiful state has to offer. What many do not realize is the pollution that California has accumulated over the years. With the state rapidly growing, the need for food, transportation, products, have been increasing. In this case, children are the ones the state need to realize that it directly affects them. As such, breathing in the toxins and increase greater chances of breathing problems or even cancer. As a whole, the pollution does not only hurt the residents of the state, but the revenue may decrease if air quality gets to the point of no return as well as the economy trying to find ways to reduce pollution. Even though there are existing policies to limit such emissions into the atmosphere, companies are either finding a way to loop pool around such policies or the implementation is not as strong as the government should push it to be. The history of pollution can be noted back from the permanent settlement of humans. However, one of the most significant changes in air pollution occurred when the first oil well was drilled in 1859. In doing so, these wells burned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide. Moreover, as gasoline engines advanced, lead became part of the greenhouse gases that are emitted. Within the next twenty years the population more than doubled to reach 16 million while the number of registered vehicles all but tripled increasing to eight million. This has been a common trend in California's documented history from the early twentieth century to today. There have been many historical and environmental factors that have assisted in contributing to increases such as these in California. One such factor was World War II, from the late 1930's to 1945, which triggered a boom in the population of California and the beginning of the urban sprawl. Increases in... The Bay Area is home to one of the more widely known public transportation systems within California called the Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART. One downfall to the system lies in transportation to and from a desired BART station. The east bay area contains a bus system called the County Connection, which runs constantly to and from the local BART stations and most residential areas, shopping and business centers. Bay Environmental Issues In this essay I would like to discuss the serious existing environmental problem– the air pollution – and to explore its aspects as well as to provide possible solutions I see for the resolution of this particular environmental problem. The air is an important attribute for the existence of the life on our planet. Without air there would be no life possible. Therefore by endangering the air we are putting our own lives in danger as well. So how the air pollution takes the place and how we can solve this environmental threat? The main reason of air pollution is an exposion of toxic and unnatural chemicals into the air. The historic preservation of property in California starts with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) adopted in 1971 and is largely modeled on the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA). Hence, California courts generally look to NEPA case law for guidance. CEQA is the most important state law for the protection of historic properties and its statement of legislative intent states that it is the "policy of the state to . . . take all action necessary to provide the people of this state with . . . enjoyment of aesthetic, natural, scenic, and historic environmental qualities." It also refers to historic resources in defining "environment ." One of the most significant features of CEQA is the detailed amount of regulation provided by the State Environmental Impact Report (EIR) Guidelines, found in Title 14 of the California Administrative Code. On October 23, 2015 a massive release of natural gas from Well SS–25 leaked at the Aliso Canyon Natural Gas Storage Facility operated by Southern California Gas Company ("Aliso Canyon Gas," 2016). The leak persisted for approximately 16 weeks, expelling natural gas, toxic pollutants, hazardous chemicals and poisonous odors into the Porter Ranch community in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles County ("Porter Ranch," 2016). The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) reported over 700 hundred complaints of health symptoms associated with odors from the leak from nearby residents ("Aliso Canyon," 2016). According to an article from Live Science, methane is "a simple hydrocarbon made up of one carbon atom and four hydrogen atoms, and is produced when microorganisms called methanogens combine carbon dioxide and oxygen" ("5 Facts,"n.d.). Methane is primarily used to produce heat and light, which can be found in homes, such as cooking or heating. Methane is an explosive gas that if it is exposed to the air, it can change the climate. It can also result to global warming, being that it is the second greenhouse gas to carbon dioxide, according to an article from the ARM Climate Research Facility website. Essay On Environmental Degradation In Southern California Environmental Degradation in Southern California In the United States, Southern California is among the top cities ranked as having the worst air quality. According to the American Lung Association statement released annually, California has always been among the most polluted cities in the US in comparison to other states and the federal clean air act health standards. There are two primary air pollution agents in the city which include stationary sources and the transportation sources (Bereitschaft, Bradley and Keith Debbage, 612). The stationary sources are such as industrial facilities and oil refineries while the transportation agents include trucks and cars. In comparison to other cities in U.S, those in California have too many cars. For instance, Los Angeles has too many vehicles exceeding the carrying capacity of the area which plays a role in the horrible air pollution of Southern California. The burning of fossil fuels from the industrial facilities and exhaust pipes of the vehicles lead to the formation of a ground level ozone. Geothermal energy is relatively cost effective, reliable, and friendly to the environment, but is limited to some specific areas. Recent technology development has greatly expanded the range and size of geothermal energy resources. Now the geothermal energy can be also used for applications such as home heating, which add use potential for the resource. Although, tapping geothermal energy will release some gas pollution which are originally trapped deep inside the earth, these emissions are much lower than those of fossil fuels. Therefore, geothermal energy is a kind of potential energy and may help to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions of the earth. California, with its location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," has great potential of geothermal energy, which can easily meet the consumption of electricity for 100,000 residents. According to EIA [1], the monthly average consumption per person is 557kWh, we can get, Total Capacity = (557 Г—12 kWh/yearГ—100,000)/(365 Г—24 Г—0.92h/year) = 83 MW Therefore, our geothermal power plant capacity is 83MW. 2. • 33. The Great Expansion Of The 20th Century Essay By the turn of the 20th century, both agricultural interests and large urban cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles needed more water for its rapid growth. In all this great expansion of aqueducts and dams, concerned citizens like John Muir proclaimed that more must be done to protect the majesty and beauty of California before it is all gone. Inspired by the writing of Henry David Thoreau, which published Walden, a landmark book on the topic of environmentalism, and his years exploring and camping in the Sierra Nevada wilderness, Muir began to gather like–minded scientists and thinkers in San Francisco. Efforts by Muir and the formation of his Sierra Club in the 1890s eventually met with success in convincing the federal government to protect the Yosemite Valley from logging and grazing interests, preserving the area into a newly formed forest reserve concept of a national park (Fox, p. 106). Muir had less success in preserving the sister valley of Hetch Hetchy, which eventually was dammed and flooded to use as a reservoir for the inhabitants of San Francisco. Up till the 1950s, environmental activism was fractured among diverse groups with diverse causes: water quality, overpopulation, air quality, clean beaches, toxic wastes, pesticides, endangered wildlife. Yet, in 1950, the Sierra Club, led by native Californian David Bower, eventually secured its national reputation in the battle against another massive dam proposal, this time the Echo Park Dam project in Utah. ... Drinking Water Act The standards of Safe Drinking Water Act According to EPA, the major requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act states that the main federal law ensures the quality of Americans' drinking water, authorizes EPA to set national standards for drinking water to protect against health effect from exposure to naturally–occurring and man–made contaminants. In addition, Dade W. Moeller, the author of Environmental Health book says, "to ensure the protection of human health from drinking water, the United States EPA or Environmental Protection Agency has developed a series of primary standards and secondary standards." The impact of the Act was a big move for the country. EPA put a great amount of focus on this Act to help the people around the country, not only the people who live back then but the people who will benefit from this Act. Currently, most people did not have any idea why their drinking water came from a double filtration system and why do they have to filter the water they are drinking. Water is essential to human body and human body should be nourished with a clean water. Water is essential to human and other living things. In human body, water play certain roles like solvent, transportation and regulation of temperature and pH. In chemistry, we named water as the universal solvent. It plays the same role in the human body as well. In transportation, water circulates inside our body while carrying nutrients, oxygen and some other chemical elements. When a person overdid an exercise, our body temperature rises up. For our body to cooldown, we need to exert water that is lost as sweat and this "serves as coolant in our body." The ... • 35. What Is The Federal Criteria For Lead, Chlorobromomethane? Introduction The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed to withdraw certain federal water quality criteria in California about lead, chlorodibromomethane, and dichlorobromomethane. The agency is proposing to amend the federal regulations to withdraw some human health water quality criteria and certain freshwater acute and chronic aquatic life water quality criteria. The ruling does not apply as of now because it is just a proposal and entitled 40 CFR Part 131 [EPA–HQ–OW–2017–0303; FRL–9971–30–OW] RIN 2040–AF71 Proposed Withdrawal of Certain Federal Water Quality Criteria Applicable to California: Lead, Chlorodibromomethane, Dichlorobromomethane. Proposed Ruling Currently the Environmental Protection Agency is proposing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this proposal to succeed first the state must adopt, second the Environmental Protection Agency approves the water quality criteria to meet the current requirement of the Clean Water Act. Once that occurs the agency will issue a rule amending the California Toxic Rule to withdraw the pertinent federal criteria where applicable to the state. California has adopted the Environmental Protection Agency approved criteria which are considered protective for the Clean Water Act for federal decree. What is being amended is the federal regulations to withdraw human health criteria for chlorodibromomethane and dichlorobromomethane for a segment of New Alamo Creek, Ulatis Creek, California. The propose is also to amend the federal regulations to withdraw freshwater acute and chronic aquatic life criteria for lead for the Los Angeles River and it tributaries. Other criteria will still be the same under the California Toxic Rule. There will be a virtual public hearing on January 25, 2018 from 9:00am to 11:00am Pacific time. Evidence Chlorodibromomethane is a clear colorless yellow–orange liquid. There is no epidemiological data relevant to the carcinogenicity of chlorodibromomethane it is not consider a carcinogen to humans. Bromodichloromethane is also colorless, liquid halogenated hydrocarbon. It is used as a reagent in laboratory research. It is also a byproduct in chlorinated water. On January 28, 1969 there was a well blow–out which occurred during drilling in the Santa Barbara Channel in Sothern California, an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 barrels of crude Oil was spilled into the channel and its surrounding, this incident caused significant impact of the ecological composition of the system, thousands of marine animals were killed and biodiversity was distorted. The Santa Barbara oil spill and the already growing environmental interests in the 1960s led to the enactment of the National Environmental Policy Act on January 1, 1970, its purpose was to promote the enhancement of the environment, and it required executive federal agencies to prepare environmental impact statements (EISs) and environmental assessment (EAs) ... • 38. Human Activities Have Impacted Rivers Since The Birth Of... Human activities have impacted rivers since the birth of civilization. For millennia, water from rivers has been, used, re–used, diverted, depleted, polluted, sold, flushed, fought for, stolen, ruled, exchanged and more. To understand what affects the quality and quantity of water for The Los Angeles River, we must understand the water sources that charge and shape the River's watershed. Moreover, we must also understand the Los Angeles River and its interaction with the environment. You see, as the River moves downgradient (downhill), it interconnects with its environment, both man–made (i.e., pavement, bridges), geologic (i.e., soil, rocks), organic (i.e., tree roots, plants), pollutants and more. At FoLAR, we believe that understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, areas of higher elevation see a lot more rainfall than areas of lower elevation. At higher elevations, the Los Angeles river tributaries are dominated by natural flows, which are seasonally affected by rain and snowfall. On the lower elevations, where most of the population lives, water to the River is supplemented by effluent and urban runoff. The latter changes the profile of the river from a body of water that is ephemeral, to a body of water that is permanent. Interestingly, because Los Angeles County depends heavily on imported water, water from the Colorado River and the Eastern Sierra Nevada indirectly ends up being part of the Los Angeles River. In the name of conquering the west, humans in the Western United States have long exerted control of bodies of water, the Los Angeles River is yet another example. Natural water resources for the River during rainy months flow from the following mountain ranges: Santa Susana Mountains, the Verdugo Hills, and the Northern side of the Santa Monica Mountains. During dry months, effluents dominate the river in the coastal plane. Recycled water is tertiary–treated effluents that go through at least three stages of purification to remove more than 99 percent of all the impurities to produce an effluent of almost drinking–water quality. The water reclamation plants that provide effluent to the River ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Environmental Impact Assessment(Eia) TITLE – Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), it 's introduction, purpose, methods of EIA, EIA conducted in India, Environmental Impact Statement(EIS). INTRODUCTION : DEFINITION : An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an assessment of the possible positive or negative impact that a proposed project may have on the environment, together consisting of the environmental, social and economic aspects. PURPOSE : The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision makers consider the ensuing environmental impacts when deciding whether to proceed with a project. The International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) defines an environmental impact assessment as "the process of identifying, predicting, evaluating and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the methods are GMP–RAM, INOVA etc.[8] Fuzzy Arithmetic– EIA methods need specific parameters and variables to be measured to estimate values of impact indicators. However many of the environment impact properties cannot be measured on a scale e.g. landscape quality, lifestyle quality, social acceptance etc. and moreover these indicators are very subjective. Thus to assess the impacts we may need to take the help of information from similar EIAs, expert criteria, sensitivity of affected population etc. To treat this information, which is generally inaccurate, systematically, fuzzy arithmetic and approximate reasoning methods can be utilised. This is called as a fuzzy logic approach.[9] At the end of the project, an EIA should be followed by an audit. An EIA audit evaluates the performance of an EIA by comparing actual impacts to those that were predicted. The main objective of these audits is to make future EIAs more valid and effective. The two main considerations are: scientific – to check the accuracy of predictions and explain errors. management– to assess the success of mitigation in reducing impacts. Some people believe that audits be performed as a rigorous scientific testing of the null hypotheses. While some believe in a simpler approach where you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to a 2005 study, air pollution may be estimated to be responsible for 3% of adult cardiopulmonary disease mortality; 5% of trachea and bronchus mortality; and in children 1% of mortality from acute respiratory infections in urban areas throughout the world.(Cohen et al., 2005) Air pollutants from a fleet of vehicles may also cause environmental impacts such as the creation of ground level ozone, a key component of smog, and the emission of greenhouse gases suspected of causing drastic changes in the earth's climate. (Transportation and air quality planning: Federal laws provide tools for change. 2008) To combat these threats, federal and state level policies have been put in place to help monitor and reduce air pollution. Perhaps the most far reaching of these was the 1990 Clean Air Act which required the reformulating of gasoline and set emission standards from hydrocarbons and diesel particulate matter. Subsequent amendments to this act required the removal of lead from gasoline and limitations to the amount of sulfur in diesel fuel. (Air toxics from motor vehicles. August 1994) Government regulations on vehicles added requirements for emission reduction equipment such as catalytic converters.(Motor vehicles and toxic air pollutants.2008) Specific federal government ...
