2. From this secondary research, we can see that 32%
of the general public typically enjoy watching horror
films. This means that the genre horror is
mainstream rather than niche. This data helps us to
establish what we could include in our film opening
to appeal to more people, we could mix our horror
genre with another genre that the public enjoy
watching more.
3. The primary target audience for this genre is typically females
under 35, usually parents and also middle class. 44% of females
under 35 enjoy watching horror films. The secondary target
audience is males under 35. 36% of men under 35 enjoy watching
horror films. From this we can see a pattern emerging, it is usually
young people who like to watch horror films. The male and female
percentage is reasonably close so I will make sure that I include
things that will interest both genders for my film opening otherwise
it will not appeal to everyone and won’t be as good.
4. The information shows in more detail what the general public
prefer. According to the data above, 15% of the general public
rate the genre horror as their favourite. This tells us that this
genre is mainstream. This also shows that horror is quite a
popular genre within the UK which means people will enjoy
watching a horror themed film opening.
5. This is the general public’s favourite genre broken down. This
shows that 28% of females under 35 rate horror as their
favourite genre and 17% of men under 35 class horror as their
favourite. This helps to establish the difference between the
genders and since the percentages are close between both
genders, I can use this to my advantage and include things that
would interest both males and females.
6. The data above shows the types of film the general public would like to see
in the future. 28% of the public want to see more dark horrors which we
could incorporate into our film opening to make it more appealing and
surprising. We could incorporate many of these genres into our film opening
to make it more interesting. E.g. an edge of seat thriller could be added to a
horror film. This would draw in the audience more because they will not
expect it.
7. CONCLUSION
Overall, our genre is predominantly aimed at females under 35 and
also males under 35, mainly middle class. This genre is mainstream
and is enjoyed by many people in the UK. This information is helpful
because now it gives us an idea of what to put into our film opening
to suit both males and females under 35 and what to include for a
mainstream audience.
