22. The role of Indian Civil Aviation at the time of Pandemic
The pandemic has affected all sectors. Civil aviation stands out as a sector which got its
act together and the government was able to use the lockdown in order to do some
essential things required to deal with the pandemic. We flew in 1,500 tonnes of medical
supplies from outside India, flew 943 tonnes of medical supplies within the country –
ventilators, etc.
Please note initially civil aviation was affected by the Pandemic where : IndiGo incurred
net losses of ₹2,884 crore and ₹1,194 crore in Q1 and Q2 of this fiscal respectively. SpiceJet
posted net losses of ₹600 crore and ₹112 crore in Q1 and Q2, respectively.
