Teaching Research Methods Within The Classroom
Abstract
Psychology undergraduates are required to study research methods within their course.
Psychology undergraduates are required to study research methods within their course. Within this are many different statistical definitions which have
been considered the most challenging aspect of the curriculum.
An individual undergraduate psychology student took part in this study. The study aimed to increase the accuracy and fluency of the recall of these
definitions by applying an intervention phase of reading through SAFMEDS cards aloud previous to recalling them in one minute. The SAFMEDS
cards were made up of key statistical concepts taken from a study guide which is core to the research methods module. Results indicated that the ...

This is more of a requirement now as students are being given greater opportunities within their course due to the new resources being put into
psychology departments. Part of this means that students are now able to conduct their own research within the third year of their degree, meaning
they need a deep level of understanding for statistics in order to accumulate adequate conclusions from their results.
Precision teaching (PT) has proved to be an effective tool when aiming to teach students material fluently and accurately. Lindsley (1990) showed that
students in precision teaching classrooms who were told to keep records of their own academic and non–academic performance and use these records
to guide their performance and eventually lead to more academic success due to the visual representation they had. This element of precision
teaching is particularly useful as learners who improve this way are susceptible to fluency based procedures which often consist of SAFMEDS or
packs of cards similar to this. SAFMEDS are typically used to help students become fluent in definitions and basic concepts, in this experiment they are
being used to improve a base of knowledge on research methods within psychology.

Behavior Patterns Of Wolf Behavior
By: Lara Drum The behavior of wolves can vary greatly, different seasons can mean different behavior patterns. When the wolf of one pack enters
the territory of another wolf pack the behaviors can be very aggressive. Wolves live in family units called packs, they are very social animals and
usually do not do well individually. Thepack is usually made up of the alpha or the leader of the pack. The alpha is usually both a male and female
in the group that are a breeding pair. The pack is usually comprised of the offspring of the alphas pair from the several years of pups. The leaders of
the pack are the bosses and determine when the pack will hunt, sleep, travel, or even play. The alphas almost always east first. (Wolf Ecology and

Wolves are carnivores, meaning they eat only meat. Wolves prey on ungulates, these are large hoofed animals such as deer and moose. This is their
favorite meals, but they have been known to hunt and eat beaver, rabbits, and small mammals. Wolves that do not live in Minnesota like to eat
caribou, elk, mountain goats, big horn sheep, and even buffalo. The fact that wolves eat these animals and helps to control the population of these
prey animals. This helps the prey populations to not get disease and spread them. Wolves hunt in the pack, this means they all work together to take
down an animal or two. They often segregate the chosen prey and will circle around it. The alphas almost always eat first, then usually the pups and
other members of the pack. Wolves need to eat around 3–7 pounds of meat a day, this equals about 15–20 adult deer a year. But wolves do not eat
every day they may go many days without eating and then eat large amounts to sustain them to the next meal. (Hunting and feeding Behavior,

15 Dogs Language Analysis
In the novel "Fifteen Dogs", by AndrГ© Alexis, two gods, Hermes and Apollo, argue over whether giving dogs human intelligence will make the dogs
more content or make their lives worse. Fifteen dogs are granted human intelligence, and the opportunity to use language, however for some dogs,
specifically Prince, a mutt, the gift of language is not completely useful in all cases. In Prince's situation, language has great benefits, yet it also has its
disadvantages. Language is ineffective for Prince in many ways, he is disliked among his pack due to his use of language, nobody understands his
poems, he cannot communicate with others, and his greediness of his language brought him great grief. With the use of language, Prince becomes

Because of this, he is never able to communicate with anyone other than the members of his pack. Some of the other dogs, like Benjy and Majnoun,
took to learning English, in order for them to communicate with humans. In doing this they are able to form relationships, quite deep relationships in
fact, with humans. However, because Prince never learns a new language, and only uses his language, he is never able to connect with humans,
proving that his language is fairly ineffective. And, because Prince never learns English, and thus never bonds with humans through the use of
language, he is often picked over. Specifically, when both Benjy and Prince go to a house, where Prince had previously formed a relationship with a
woman who lived there, Benjy is taken in, and Prince is turned away. Benjy spoke English to the woman, and she is fascinated by him, because "[i]t
is almost as if the beagle understood them" (Alexis 108) thus causing "[m]uch of her affection for [Prince] [to be] transferred to Benjy on the spot"

Short Story: The Takeover
The Dingle–Mouses were in their living chamber when a knock came on the door. Oliver answered. Brianna was standing on the white stone that was
the front step while Timmy was dancing like a cat on a hot tin roof.
"Have you got the last of it?" asked Oliver.
"Sure have." Timmy darted inside. "Mom sold the last trap this morning."
"This is it." Brianna dropped two silver dollars in Oliver's paws.
Oliver stuffed the money in his pocket. "This will come in handy to buy more sheet music. Dad will be happy."
"Enough talk about music." Brianna stretched her neck to look around. "Has Mr. Rat dropped it off?"
"It came this morning and I've been playing ever since." Oliver's tail was wagging, an audience. "It's in the piano room."
Mr. Dingle–Mouse had to dig another room to accommodate Oliver's piano bought with the money earned from farming. Oliver wanted the piano
room so badly that he enlisted Brianna and Timmy to help dig. Those little mice had a summer's worth of expedience digging on the farm. It took them
less than a week to dig out the chamber.
With Mr. Dingle–Mouse's help, it took only a day for Oliver to put up the milk cartons to keep the dirt back. Although, Mrs. Dingle–Mouse was still
finding dirt from the dig around the burrow.
Mrs. Dingle–Mouse closed her eyes and waited for the music to begin.
Mr. Dingle–Mouse moaned. He had been sitting enjoying the silence. It had been a full ten minutes since the sound of music come from the back of
the burrow.

The Epic Of Judea Short Story
Another day, and more dead sheep littered the hills of Judea. A fierce pack of roaming wolves had struck again. All the shepherd boys of Judea, on
high alert, had been arming themselves with pitchforks and knives to defend their helpless herds of sheep. One of these shepherd boys went by the
name of Joshua. Joshua tended to the sheep of his frail father, and looked after his family. He was a good son, and a loving brother. Mentiri, another
shepherd boy, was the biggest and strongest of all the shepherd boys in the village. For his strength, good looks, and physical prowess, he was the
pride of the village. On a warm summer night on the hills of Judea, under a full moon, Joshua and Mentiri were tending to their flock. A low howl
came from the far side of the hill. The far off ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mentiri and Joshua, hearing the howls getting louder and closer, herded their sheep into a nearby gulley and prepared themselves to defend their
flock. The snarling, hungry pack of wolves suddenly appeared and circled the entrance to the gulley. They then moved in for the kill. Joshua felt a
surge of bravery in his heart, like no other feeling he'd had felt before. He grabbed his pitchfork and stoically held his ground. He glanced at Mentiri,
and to his surprise, saw fear in his eyes and knew he was on his own. He knew he would get no aid from the larger, stronger man. The largest wolf, who
seemed to be the leader of the pack of seven wolves, sprang at Joshua, its jaws wide open. Joshua blocked the wolf with his pitchfork, and stabbed
him in the throat with his knife. He paused and looked around. Mentiri was no where to be found, for the pride of the village had fled to a nearby
cave and was cowering in fear. The pack of seven wolves, now six, set upon Joshua with ferocity. He fought back with equal ferocity, killing them one
by one, as they tore at his flesh. The cowering Mentiri could hear the screams of Joshua and the snarling of the

War Narrative
It started out as yet another wet and sloppy day in the camp with nothing to do. I sat in my bunk listening to my buddies talk amongst themselves about
the crappy weather and the war. They chatted about the normal things; all of them wanting to finally get home and be dry, but all of them knowing that
it would not happen any time soon. As I sat there in my hard cot, my mind drifted off to the fond memories of home in Iowa. I remember my sister
and my two brothers and recall the great times we had together. I can still picture the looks on the faces of my family as I left them that day and
also the face of my dear wife, Chris. Oh, how I miss them all so much and I know that I have to make it back to them. I also think about my job back
at home at the truck and trailer repair shop and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I remember how everything happened so quickly in the months leading up to the war. It all started with the days of the draft in 1969. I sat and
listened to all the dates being called out and finally, I heard my birthday. My heart sank, while I stood shocked and I just stopped thinking and
moving. Life, however, didn't stop with me and the time before being brought in for the first round of training came by like a rocket. There was
hardly anytime to blink prior to the first day of training. Training was a very hard and rough experience, especially, due to the fact I was not a good
runner. I can still faintly feel the in my arms from the numerous pushups and physical activities that we endured. Beyond the physical pain, came the
mental and emotional strain of getting ready for a war. I was only 19 years old at the time and had not really had a chance to grow up. So I had to
quickly learn how to be self–sufficient and learn how to take orders in order to survive. Following the six weeks of initial training, I quickly married
my high school sweetheart Chris. Not long after came time to leave for the real war and head towards

Analysis Of Chasing Cpt And Leading The Sioc Testing At Cha1
Project Summary
I worked on many small projects this summer. However they can be summarized as follows: building tools to improve quality and efficiency in the
pack department; analyzing our process of chasing CPT's and leading the SIOC testing at CHA1. I was able to build 3 tools, a Pack Head Count Macro
(Appendix A & B), a Pack Rate Puller Macro (Appendix C & D), and a Planning Board for Outbound Macro (Appendix E & F) all of these tools were
created to be used on Day and Night Shift. I was able to analyze the process of chasing CPT's using two methods, a profitability analysis and analyzing
the rates of packers. Finally, I helped start up and run SIOC testing at our site. To show the effectiveness of the three tools I have created, I will
explain how the process worked before the tool I created, describe how my tool works, and then detail how it changed the process, for each tool.
The analysis of chasing CPT's I will first talk about our current CPT chasing program, then walk through my two analyses. Then I will discuss how I
set up SIOC testing, how I ensured it would continue running successfully and the plan I have put in place to ensure it continues effectively once I
leave. Then I will talk about the benefits of each project. Finally, I will wrap up with a conclusion and acknowledgements.
Pack Head Count Macro
Prior to my macro being used, process assistants (PA) would regularly call out for head counts. They will call out to each process guide (PG) for a head

The Day Of Amelia Dubrinsky
The afternoon sun trickled through the forest, glimpses of golden hue bore down over the sheltered landscape. It seemed like a beautiful day so
far, the birds were singing and the sun was shining. It was just a shame that one of the more beautiful days had to be this very day, of all days. It
wasn't exactly the worst day of her life, well, not yet at least. But it wouldn't be making the highlight reel either. Today was the very day Amelia
Dubrinsky was set to marry an Alpha of a fellow royal line. There were four royal packs left; it was a more definitive name for original bloodlines.
They came from vastly different areas, and more importantly, had very varying talents.
For many years now the packs had been in a state of war. Several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If she had the selfish tendency her brothers had, she'd have run the moment she woke up.
The twenty–six–year–old rose, making her way through the hand made wooden home. Everything in their land was made by their own hands. Sure,
there had been some advances with plumbing but it remained a tradition and a privilege to make their own homes. It was as if someone could feel the
love each family had put into making their home. "We still have several hours." Amelia noted as she leaned on the wooden door frame, her gaze
swooping over the warmly lit bedroom. In the left hand side of the room her dress hung on a stump that was supported by a metal rod that spanned out
toward the floor.
She'd never considered love, or marrying really. She'd spent most of her life training with her brothers, there wasn't much that she thought of that she
could define as a young woman's dream. All that really mattered in her mind was her home and their safety, it was the only reason she was stepping up
to take a stranger's hand in marriage.
"Amelia, it's going to take a few hours." Her mother cautioned, pointing her eloquently painted nail toward the wooden stool before her. With a
defiant groan, Amelia made her way into the room. Alise carefully unhooked the dress from the stand and made her way toward her daughter. It had
been made by Amelia's aunt, in the traditional fashion of past wedding dresses. The blonde slowly slipped into the silk like material. The dress fit

Ninemile Wolves by Rick Bass
The Ninemile Wolves is a compelling nonfiction story told by Rick Bass, while Bass approaches the wolves with a mixture of awe, compassion,
and fascination; others in the area are less welcoming, including some local ranchers, hunters and politicians. The wolves are studied by Bass, Rick
Jimenez, and others of how they are endeavoring for their presence in the Ninemile Valley in Montana. Bass consumes his reader into his work by
using both scientific and spiritual relevance of the wolves, and how they balance the ecosystem. While the biologist are cheering for the survival of
the Ninemile pack ranchers, hunters, and politicians are concerned that they will attack livestock and decimate the population of elk and deer.
However, despite all the stereotypes put into place the wolves survive off small mammals, and stray away from large pray. Bass anthropomorphizes
the wolves by saying they have a soul like humans, and their spirit has an effect on the Ninemile Valley. In the begging chapters the first set of
wolves were found on a rancher's property, the rancher let them stay long enough for the pups to mature; a month later, after attacks on dogs and
calves, probably by coyotes, the wolves were removed, kept in captivity for several weeks and released. One pup escaped, and then was captured; the
other two died of starvation. The Montana Department of Fisheries and Wildlife Preservation asked the USFWS to remove the pups because they
might affect Montana's biggest cash crop:

Personal Narrative : The Food Fair
It was about 6:00 A. M. on a warm Friday morning and I Zach was about to have the best day of the school year. The Food Fair was finally coming
to our school. It happened all year but this particular year was the best because I finally saved more than enough money to actually buy food. I
brushed my teeth, rushed on my clothes, quickly ate my breakfast and hurried into the car. I rapidly urged my mom to hurry up. I wouldn't be late to
an amazing school day. I got to my first period class feeling so excited for the rest of the day ahead of me. At about third period I was in thebathroom
about to head off to my band class when there was a sudden announcement that the whole school was going on lockdown and that this was not a
drill. I knew I wouldn't be able to get back to my class in time so I hid in the bathroom door. I didn't notice anything coming in my direction so I
quietly got out from the bathroom. The bathroom was a few feet away from the outside door. I looked around me and I spotted a man about 3 feet
away from me. I suspected it would be one of the administrators, but the man was walking towards me in an ominous way. I instantly new that this
was no administrator. I had nowhere to hide so I just made a mad dash out of the school. The mysterious man was still chasing me and there was a
nearby forest right in front of me. I ran straight into it hiding behind some thick bushes. I heard the crunching sound of twigs dangerously nearby. I

Original Writing : My Friend
Around 9th grade, my friend Daniel rang the doorbell to my house. Tears started to pour down his face as he elucidated how he ran up to his room
after hearing his father profusely yell at his mother. He listened to the plea of his mother's voice until the commotion stopped with his mother's
deafening scream and the front door slamming to a close. Trembling, he called the police from his room and proceeded to run downstairs to witness his
mother laying on the mahogany hardwood floor; her face and hands were covered in dark red gore. Recalling this situation left his face empty, like
that of a soldiers when they remember friends getting killed in action, and his voice quavered with the words that he spoke. He knew how everything
in his life was about to change forever. Daniel stayed with a friend of his from school, John, after police interrogation. During his time back in our
neighborhood, he became very nullified of any emotion. I noticed Daniel putting his head down all throughout class, and he went from a straight A
student to failing every test – he was fading into the shadows. We grew distant during the summer since I had no way of contacting him, and I could
sense he was beginning his decent into depression. His phone was disconnected, and the day I went over to John's house to check up on him he
explained Daniel left to go live with someone else.
Several months passed, and one day after my tennis practice I noticed Daniel sitting on a tan concrete bench outside of

Under the oak tree, Freddy sat playing in the mud. Rolling a piece of mud between his hands, he eyed the distance between him and Seymour. Taking
a small hop closer to the pond, he checked the distance again. Drawing his arm back, he threw the mud ball at Seymour. Lucky for Seymour, Freddy's
aim was a little off. The mud ball hit the water next to Seymour's head splashing him.
The shock of water on his face shot him straight up, arms waving about. Then he came straight down like a rock. He surfaced and looked right at
Freddy.
"What was that for?"

I nodded, my head easier to move already, "I just need to wait for my body to heal, should take half an hour."

being mistreated or hurt I have to do something, help in some way. Though what I didn't realise was, that it would be even harder to choose what type
of veterinarian, among the several that there are to choose from. I have chosen the top three jobs that I am going to take into real consideration. One of

Brian's Three Survival Strategies
Have you ever crashed in the wilderness and had to survive all alone? Well a boy named Brian did. That 13 year old boy survived because of these
three survival strategies. The three strategies are being observant, planning ahead, and using his hatchet. Those strategies and the way Brian used them
are what you will read about.
The first strategy Brian used was being observant. One way Brian was observant was when he noticed something bad was going to happen, and it
did. Brian was in the water looking for fish for food then all of the sudden he feels something weird is about to happen. Brian stands there for a few
seconds, and out of the sudden this moose comes and attacks him. After being attacked by a moose a tornado hit destroying everything he made.
Another way Brian was observant was when he was catching the fool birds. He was having a hard time trying to catch them. He noticed that instead

Brian used planning ahead as a survival strategy when he knew he would need food to survive, so the night before he planned ahead to do so. The
next day Brian got up and saw birds so he went to see if they would lead him to food and they did. Another way Brian planned ahead was when he
needed fire wood. Brian woke up one day and the fire was very low, and he knew he would need more fire would to keep the fire going. He went
out and got enough wood not only to keep up the fire but to have wood for the next day. And from that day on he got extra wood every morning. Brian
also planned ahead when he thought about the survival pack. Brian remembered he saw the survival pack in the plane. He knew it would help him a lot
so he went to the plane a few days after he thought about it. Those are all ways Brian used planning ahead or being proactive as a survival strategy.

Descriptive Essay About Smoking
Don't let people treat you like a cigarette; they only use you when they are bored and step on you when they are done. But still I did. I inhaled the
bad parts of myself and exhaled them into people, and soon the toxic smoke surrounded them and suddenly the bad parts of me left and rooted in
others. Ashes fell from each flick, one after another I was slowly killing myself. People wondered why I smoked so much and why my body always
smelled like an ashtray. The truth is, I was trying to kill something inside of me but instead I was killing myself. Those addictive sticks of cancer
where the only thing that never left me, it was like food for my broken soul that I was sure would never be mended back together. Late at night, at
three in the morning, smoke circling in the cold air and I couldn't help but stare at the sky. Shooting stars fell into the sky and my mind goes back to that
cigarette, carelessly sitting between my index and middle finger, and the ashes falling to the ground. As time goes on I am becoming that sinister little
stick. I am that cigarette, that long drag, that tireless craving.
You see I am that cigarette, everyone uses me but when i'm gone they soon start to miss my presence. They can't help but spark that lighter and
inhale that nasty smoke. I am that sickening toxic mixture, the badness that people need around for some quick relief. Constantly changing my
levels of toxicity making people crave me more but as soon as i don't give them that high they so long for i'm crushed into the ground. Left there to

What Is Grey Wolf Optimizer?
introduction:
Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) is a population–based meta–heuristic search algorithm inspired by the grey wolf (Canis lupus) proposed by Mirjalili et al
in 2014. This GWO algorithm mimics the leadership hierarchy and hunting mechanism of grey wolves in nature . there are Four types of grey wolves
such as alpha, beta, delta, and omega. these types are employed for simulating the leadership hierarchy. In addition, there are three main steps of
hunting, and these steps are implemented to perform optimization.
Inspiration
Grey wolves are considered as apex predators, mostly prefer to live in a pack having group size of 5–12 on average. These wolves have a very strict
social dominant hierarchy , divided in four types of grey wolves, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gray Wolves : Causes And Characteristics Of The Gray Wolf...
The gray wolf is a majestic hunter that is necessary to many biomes. They are a living species and deserve to survive just as much as we do. If
they die off, not only will we be losing an entire species, many other depending species will die, as well. This species of wolf are large compared to
their predecessors. They grow up to 6 feet long and two and a half feet tall. Even though their name is the "gray" wolf they come in a variety of
colors. Although grey is the most dominant, their fur can be pure white or black. Their color mostly depends on the climate of their habitat. Graywolves
have long noses and tall, curved ears. They can weigh as little as 80 and as much as 120 pounds. Gray wolves are very social animals just as we are .
They live in packs of 8 with a male and a female alpha. The alphas lead hunts and make most of the pack's decisions like where to settle. The pack
works together to feed the pups until they are mature enough to join the hunt. Wolves depend on whines, barks, howls, and growls to communicate.
They are carnivores, meaning they eat primarily meat. This species of wolf hunt mostly ungulates, or hoofed animals, like deer or moose. They will eat
the occasional rodent when times are rough. As I stated earlier, thegray wolf hunt in packs led by the alphas. They can put on bursts of speed to catch
their prey but not for very long. They, also, eat animals that died for reasons other than hunting. Wolves can go up to 2 weeks without eating which is

Descriptive Essay About A Friend
I see the school in the distance and quickly head towards the entrance, to be greeted by my one and only friend; Ashley James. More like the only
person in the whole world who actually talks to me out of choice. Well, at least without ulterior motives. At first people used to crowd around me,
being the daughter of the Beta couple meant that there was a huge chance that I'd be powerful and definitely loaded.
After they found out I was an Omega they disappeared and Elena became the "better/popular" sister. After that some people still crowded me in hopes
that Elena would noticed them through me but soon enough they realized her hatred for me and left. Funny how people change and judge you just
because of your position in the world and not you, for just being you.
Ashley is also one of the prettiest girls in school, with ginger hair that reaches down to her hips and hazel eyes that are always full of cheer and
happiness. I feel lucky to have her as a friend, even if our personalities and tastes are vastly different.
While she likes to go out to parties and hang out with friends, I like to stay home and read. She also goes shopping a lot, hence her fashionable
outfit. Today she's wearing a ivory flower lace crop top with a baby pink cross over pencil skirt. A simple gold band decorating her arm, our pack's
necklace matching perfectly. (A/N picture above, the necklace isn't the same but the clothes are)
As soon as your first shift happened either a necklace or ring was forged specifically for you. For she–wolves it was a necklace, it came in different
shapes depending on your status. For Ash it was a shield, her parents being warriors, it had the pack's symbol thinly craved in it, as well as her initials
in cursive. Males had a ring, it also carried the pack's symbol but instead of being craved in it, it was added. Once you found you mate, a animal
would appear along with your mate's initials. How? You may ask yourself, for it had magic. The animal is your spirit, and you could shift between that
animal, a wolf, and a human. Rare times you would get more than one, although none at all was common.
I shake my head and focus back to her, "Guess what El?" She beams at me. "What?" I ask dismissing her happy mood,

White Wolf Mountain Research Paper
White Wolf Mountain is a place of mystery. The Mountain is a majestic monolith, rising above all others and overlooking the valley it created. It
harbors a Power older than any living thing on Earth. The Power has grown over centuries, millennia, eons–never having been created, but having
always existed. Nobody knows how it came to be, but they do know this: the Power is changing, evolving all the time. It sees all but it does not know
all. The Power likes to learn. It likes to test its subjects and watch the outcome. The Power is a sentient being. Though it has no physical form and is
confined to the Mountain, its influence extends far beyond its home of rock.
The Power started taking an interest in the animals that evolved around it when the Earth was young. Only when the mammals started to come, and the
Mountain grew in size with the shifting plates below did the Power have enough energy to begin to act on its whims. The first animal to come under
the Power's influence was the wolf. A primitive creature, yet complex nonetheless. The wolf hunted and scavenged, were social creatures,
communicating through howls and yips and body language and the Power was fascinated by this. The Power wanted to understand this, and when it
had amassed enough energy, it created its own wolf.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Similarities Between Rats And Mice
Though, very similar in appearance, mice are very different from rats. Mice are equivalent to sparrows in size, generally 12 to 20 cm long. They
have a thin tail and a triangular muzzle with long whiskers. Mice weigh between 12 and 30 gms in general and are found in different species such as
house mice, spiny mice, deer mice, and dormice. You can see mice in brown, grey or white color. With thin, hairy tails, mice can be found all over the
world.
Most of the times, mice tend to live not more than one year. However, under special circumstances such as in detention, they can survive for as long as
six years.
Rat is a medium–sized to large rodent that has a long, thin tail. Usually, many different rodent species are referred to as rats, be it cotton rats, or
black rats, or wood rats, or kangaroo rats, or pack rats. In fact, a lot of other rat species are generally called rats only, even though they may have no

ancestor. However, rats and mice generally differ in terms of size and genus. Read on to learn

Into The Wild: A Short Story
Buck was now one with the wild. His reminiscence of John Thornton rushed through his mind when he fixed his gaze upon the brilliance of the
Yeehats' crackling fire. The thirst for vengeance bubbled in the pits of his stomach when he grimaced at the natives through the trees. He had very few
sentiments left for John Thornton, but the fire always managed to flood his thoughts with the remembrance of John's affectionate visage.
Days had passed and the Yeehats were packing their camp to move away for the winter, for a blizzard was coming on.The pack had now developed a
credence in Buck and familiarized themselves with the idea of having him has their leader. Although the rest of the pack held confidence in the former
alpha, Mikee remained skeptical. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next morning, Buck arose to Mikee in his den, fangs bared, ready to attack. Buck stayed still, unmoved by Mikee's attempt at intimidating him. He

Buck's encounters with the humans were unacceptable, unreasonable and were now exposed.
Buck ran through the small opening Mikee left open between the cave and him and ran out deep into the woods. As he approached the clearing, there
was a sudden, searing pain that shot through his back. It was the wooden sticks the humans projected to catch their fish. Buck fell to the ground,
whimpering in agony. Before Buck closed his eyes, he saw Mikee in the distance and the pack and out of the corner of his other eye, he saw Nipmuk
in tears.
Buck awoke hours later in the dark of the night, in mild to moderate pain. It was moist and hot. He was slightly uncomfortable, from the pain, but the
warmth of the fire kept him company. Seeing the face of adoration from Nipmuk caused past emotions to resurface, but this time they were anything
but negative feelings inclusive of vengeance and sorrow. Buck outstretched his limbs when he heard the wild calling him

Denali's Wolves
For many years my family and I have traveled around the country to visit our national parks and view the wildlife they protect. I've been from Hawaii
to Maine to the Virgin Islands. My favorite memories as a child are those of camping with my family in thesenational parks. One of the few parks I
have not had the pleasure of visiting is Denali National Park in Alaska. Last year while reading a magazine, I learned of something that troubled me

Denali National Park is home to the majority of our nation's and the world's most frequently viewed wolf population. This summer alone 30,000
tourists experienced these wolves without even leaving their vehicles. Denali is Alaska's number one tourist attraction, and covers more than 6 million
acres. It began as Mt. McKinley National Park in 1917, but wasn't until 1980 that the name was change to Denali National Park. People travel to
Denali to view Mt. McKinley (America's highest mountain) and its famed wolves.
Wolves are amazing creatures that stack up to be more than your average canine. Wolves can stake claim to territories recorded to be over 800 miles.
Average wolf packs usually consist of 8–10 wolves, but one Denali pack recorded 27 members plus 3 pups. They have the ability to hunt caribou,
moose, Dall sheep, beaver, and ground squirrel. They use howling and scent marking to scare of rival packs. They also show us their rank in the
pack by the position in which they carry their tale. They accomplish all this with a brain twice the size of a domestic dog, and extremely developed
social skills. Not only are these wolves the most famous in the world, one group is the world's oldest known family lineage of any nonhuman social

Wolves: Keeping Nature in Balance Essay
Everyone knows of the apocryphal evil that is wolves, hunting our children, killing our livestock, taking the best deer. Having a wolf hunting season
seems like a no brainer, right? But what if that's not how wolves are, what if they are innocent, so to say. Should they be hunted? The short answer is
no. There should not be a wolf hunting season because many of the thoughts on wolves are incorrect; hunting would compromise wolf studies, and the
population is already suffering. We have all heard of the Big Bad Wolf, stalking children and spreading fear and chaos. It commits heinous crimes and
deserves to be destroyed. This is a misdemeanor. Wolves huntdeer, rabbits, moose, and other animals ("Wolf"). Because most of the animals they hunt

This happens because baying dogs appear as an attacker to wolves, causing them to go on the defense. The best solution would be not to use
hunting dogs, but this option is exceedingly undesirable. Multiple decades and thousands of dollars have been invested into the research of wolves
and their behavior. One of the most successful ongoing studies takes place every winter on Isle Royale. They collar and track the wolves, studying
their hunting habits and interactions with other packs. While visiting Isle Royale this summer, one of the Park Rangers said to me, "Wolves make
great family members, but awful neighbors. Kind of like the Mafia." While this may seem strange, what she meant was this; wolves are especially
munificent towards their pack mates. They are loyal and some of the best parents, especially the fathers. However, they have been known to
assassinate neighboring pack members at times ("All About Wolves"). Isle Royale is a prime example of this; limited space and resources cause
constant fighting between the packs.
While on the mainland wolves don't fight over territory as much due to more space. Researchers can use this to their advantage. How? By creating a
fake wolf pack. How it works is if a pack is attacking livestock, they can usually eliminate the one or two problem wolves and not have to worry. This
doesn't always work, which then results in exterminating the pack. There is another solution they are trying. Instead,

What Is A Lone Howl Affect Communication?
A long piercing howl shatters the quiet night of a northern forest. The howl grows into a chorus of yelps and barks, and the valley echoes to the
chilling sound. The leader of the pack starts the noise, while other pack members, as well as other wolf packs, join in (O'Toole 22).
Among wolves, communication is a very highly developed skill. For instance, the howl of the pack leader has many different meanings. Most of the
time a lone howl is a warning for other packs. It tells them to stay away, for there are many young to be protected and food to be guarded (O'Toole
23). A howl can also be a way of marking their territory. Many wolves howl when they feel another pack is too close. Some wolves howl when they
are lost or trying to find another member of the pack. Most wolves use this howl at least once a day to locate missing pups or other pack members
(Primate). To wolves, the territory that they occupy (the territory of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many postures have been evolved to reduce conflict and aggression among pack members. Facial expressions are the most obvious. Generally, bared
teeth with ears erect and pointed back can indicate a threat by a dominant male (Wolfhaven). In contrast, a closed mouth, slitlike eyes, and ears
pulled forward (and close to their head) will most likely indicate subordinate behavior (Wolfhaven). Wolves also use their tail position to communicate
emotion. Threatening wolves hold their tails high, almost perpendicular, while more submissive wolves lower themselves before dominant pack
members. These lower class members often have their tails tucked between their legs (Primate). A wolf that has been defeated in a fight can avoid

Essay on Three Poems, One Theme: Nature's Perception of Time
In three poems – "Old Woodrat's Stinky House", "The Mountain Spirit", and "Boat of a Million Years"– Gary Snyder uses the concept of deep time to
show us how nature views time and implies that humanity needs to be able to see time the same way. Snyder's poems imply that he believes people
have forgotten their place in the natural world and that we should try to regain our respect for nature. "Old Woodrat's Stinky House" explains what is
wrong with how we perceive time. "The Mountain Spirit" shows why nature views time as more like a singular thing than a series of segments like
humans do. "Boat of a Million Years" hints at a solution and implies that we should relax and follow nature's example. First, the poem "Old Woodrat's

The poet is also implicitly telling us that we are ruining our planet by finishing the poem with:
–Coyote says "You people stay put here, learn your place, do good things. Me, I'm traveling on."
Coyote, the creator of the earth in this poem and often a deity of many First Nation cultures, is so disgusted with humanity that he decides to move
on but he leaves with a message to "learn your place". Gary Snyder's poem implies that humanity has become detached with nature and that we need
to learn our place and learn to stop "pissing on everything". Second, the poem "The Mountain Spirit" is about a dialogue between the poet's speaker
(probably Gary Snyder himself) and a mountain spirit. "Ceaseless wheel of lives" the is first line of the poem – it is also repeated throughout the entire
poem – is meant to show that life existed before and will continue to exist after mankind. The "Ceaseless wheel of lives" also suggests that time is not
broken up into a series of segments. At one point in the poem, the mountain spirit remarks "But what do you know of minerals and stone". The
mountain spirit's incredulity implies that Gary Snyder thinks people have a hard time understanding a large–scale view of time. Snyder goes on to tell
a poem to the mountain spirit – a poem within a poem – that tells the story of the life of a mountain to illustrate how a mountain perceives time. The

Personal Narrative : My Journey To A Mountain
This summer, I learned I could do some athletic things in the most stereotypical, cliche way imaginable. I climbed a mountain. My dad and I had gone
up to the North Shore on a father–son trip. I am not at all athletically gifted, so I was not looking forward to it. I could not envision myself climbing a
mountain. To climb a mountain you had to be agile and surefooted. I was neither of those things. I was, and still am, very clumsy. Also my hand–eye
coordination is egregious. I was exactly the opposite of what you needed to be to climb a mountain. I was academically gifted, but didn't play any
sports and had no athletic experience whatsoever. My dad was also very academically gifted, but he was also a stellar athlete. He competed in track,

When we arrived at the mountain my dad showed me the narrow gravel path we would be following. It was covered in mud, leaves and sticks. It
would have been more suitable for a deer to climb through than a human. I then realized I should not have worn socks with sandals. My dad handed

this with us the entire way up the mountain."

"Damn you, Clyde," she muttered under her breath as she swung the pack over her shoulder. Go out past the coffee shop, he said. You'll have better
luck, he said. Better luck, my ass.
With a table leg firmly clasped in her hand, she slowly opened the screen door, wincing at the squeak. She leaned forward and paused, listening. No
animalistic howls, no garbled speech, or erratic breathing. Only the sounds of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She quickly patted her pockets, finally locating her second weapon. Rowan's hand closed around the gun's grip and she pulled it free. It laid glinting in
her hand. She wished she didn't have to use the damn thing. Tucking back into her pocket, she renewed her grip on the table leg. If there were only two
infected, she might not even need to use the melee weapon. Still crouching behind the car, she zeroed in on the infected's movements. They were a
good distance from where she was. She was lucky their scent abilities weren't any different than when they were human. Rising half way, she peeked

Teaching Research Methods Within The Classroom

  • 1. Teaching Research Methods Within The Classroom Abstract Psychology undergraduates are required to study research methods within their course. Psychology undergraduates are required to study research methods within their course. Within this are many different statistical definitions which have been considered the most challenging aspect of the curriculum. An individual undergraduate psychology student took part in this study. The study aimed to increase the accuracy and fluency of the recall of these definitions by applying an intervention phase of reading through SAFMEDS cards aloud previous to recalling them in one minute. The SAFMEDS cards were made up of key statistical concepts taken from a study guide which is core to the research methods module. Results indicated that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is more of a requirement now as students are being given greater opportunities within their course due to the new resources being put into psychology departments. Part of this means that students are now able to conduct their own research within the third year of their degree, meaning they need a deep level of understanding for statistics in order to accumulate adequate conclusions from their results. Precision teaching (PT) has proved to be an effective tool when aiming to teach students material fluently and accurately. Lindsley (1990) showed that students in precision teaching classrooms who were told to keep records of their own academic and non–academic performance and use these records to guide their performance and eventually lead to more academic success due to the visual representation they had. This element of precision teaching is particularly useful as learners who improve this way are susceptible to fluency based procedures which often consist of SAFMEDS or packs of cards similar to this. SAFMEDS are typically used to help students become fluent in definitions and basic concepts, in this experiment they are being used to improve a base of knowledge on research methods within psychology. ... • 2. Behavior Patterns Of Wolf Behavior By: Lara Drum The behavior of wolves can vary greatly, different seasons can mean different behavior patterns. When the wolf of one pack enters the territory of another wolf pack the behaviors can be very aggressive. Wolves live in family units called packs, they are very social animals and usually do not do well individually. Thepack is usually made up of the alpha or the leader of the pack. The alpha is usually both a male and female in the group that are a breeding pair. The pack is usually comprised of the offspring of the alphas pair from the several years of pups. The leaders of the pack are the bosses and determine when the pack will hunt, sleep, travel, or even play. The alphas almost always east first. (Wolf Ecology and Behavior, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wolves are carnivores, meaning they eat only meat. Wolves prey on ungulates, these are large hoofed animals such as deer and moose. This is their favorite meals, but they have been known to hunt and eat beaver, rabbits, and small mammals. Wolves that do not live in Minnesota like to eat caribou, elk, mountain goats, big horn sheep, and even buffalo. The fact that wolves eat these animals and helps to control the population of these prey animals. This helps the prey populations to not get disease and spread them. Wolves hunt in the pack, this means they all work together to take down an animal or two. They often segregate the chosen prey and will circle around it. The alphas almost always eat first, then usually the pups and other members of the pack. Wolves need to eat around 3–7 pounds of meat a day, this equals about 15–20 adult deer a year. But wolves do not eat every day they may go many days without eating and then eat large amounts to sustain them to the next meal. (Hunting and feeding Behavior, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fifteen dogs are granted human intelligence, and the opportunity to use language, however for some dogs, specifically Prince, a mutt, the gift of language is not completely useful in all cases. In Prince's situation, language has great benefits, yet it also has its disadvantages. Language is ineffective for Prince in many ways, he is disliked among his pack due to his use of language, nobody understands his poems, he cannot communicate with others, and his greediness of his language brought him great grief. With the use of language, Prince becomes encompassed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of this, he is never able to communicate with anyone other than the members of his pack. Some of the other dogs, like Benjy and Majnoun, took to learning English, in order for them to communicate with humans. In doing this they are able to form relationships, quite deep relationships in fact, with humans. However, because Prince never learns a new language, and only uses his language, he is never able to connect with humans, proving that his language is fairly ineffective. And, because Prince never learns English, and thus never bonds with humans through the use of language, he is often picked over. Specifically, when both Benjy and Prince go to a house, where Prince had previously formed a relationship with a woman who lived there, Benjy is taken in, and Prince is turned away. Benjy spoke English to the woman, and she is fascinated by him, because "[i]t is almost as if the beagle understood them" (Alexis 108) thus causing "[m]uch of her affection for [Prince] [to be] transferred to Benjy on the spot" (Alexis ... Brianna was standing on the white stone that was the front step while Timmy was dancing like a cat on a hot tin roof. "Have you got the last of it?" asked Oliver. "Sure have." Timmy darted inside. "Mom sold the last trap this morning." "This is it." Brianna dropped two silver dollars in Oliver's paws. Oliver stuffed the money in his pocket. "This will come in handy to buy more sheet music. Dad will be happy." "Enough talk about music." Brianna stretched her neck to look around. "Has Mr. Rat dropped it off?" "It came this morning and I've been playing ever since." Oliver's tail was wagging, an audience. "It's in the piano room." Mr. Dingle–Mouse had to dig another room to accommodate Oliver's piano bought with the money earned from farming. Oliver wanted the piano room so badly that he enlisted Brianna and Timmy to help dig. Those little mice had a summer's worth of expedience digging on the farm. All the shepherd boys of Judea, on high alert, had been arming themselves with pitchforks and knives to defend their helpless herds of sheep. One of these shepherd boys went by the name of Joshua. Joshua tended to the sheep of his frail father, and looked after his family. He was a good son, and a loving brother. Mentiri, another shepherd boy, was the biggest and strongest of all the shepherd boys in the village. For his strength, good looks, and physical prowess, he was the pride of the village. Joshua felt a surge of bravery in his heart, like no other feeling he'd had felt before. He grabbed his pitchfork and stoically held his ground. He glanced at Mentiri, and to his surprise, saw fear in his eyes and knew he was on his own. He knew he would get no aid from the larger, stronger man. The largest wolf, who seemed to be the leader of the pack of seven wolves, sprang at Joshua, its jaws wide open. Joshua blocked the wolf with his pitchfork, and stabbed him in the throat with his knife. He paused and looked around. Mentiri was no where to be found, for the pride of the village had fled to a nearby cave and was cowering in fear. The pack of seven wolves, now six, set upon Joshua with ferocity. He fought back with equal ferocity, killing them one by one, as they tore at his flesh. The cowering Mentiri could hear the screams of Joshua and the snarling of the ... • 6. War Narrative It started out as yet another wet and sloppy day in the camp with nothing to do. I sat in my bunk listening to my buddies talk amongst themselves about the crappy weather and the war. They chatted about the normal things; all of them wanting to finally get home and be dry, but all of them knowing that it would not happen any time soon. As I sat there in my hard cot, my mind drifted off to the fond memories of home in Iowa. I remember my sister and my two brothers and recall the great times we had together. I can still picture the looks on the faces of my family as I left them that day and also the face of my dear wife, Chris. I sat and listened to all the dates being called out and finally, I heard my birthday. My heart sank, while I stood shocked and I just stopped thinking and moving. Life, however, didn't stop with me and the time before being brought in for the first round of training came by like a rocket. There was hardly anytime to blink prior to the first day of training. Training was a very hard and rough experience, especially, due to the fact I was not a good runner. I can still faintly feel the in my arms from the numerous pushups and physical activities that we endured. Beyond the physical pain, came the mental and emotional strain of getting ready for a war. I was only 19 years old at the time and had not really had a chance to grow up. So I had to quickly learn how to be self–sufficient and learn how to take orders in order to survive. • 7. Analysis Of Chasing Cpt And Leading The Sioc Testing At Cha1 Project Summary I worked on many small projects this summer. However they can be summarized as follows: building tools to improve quality and efficiency in the pack department; analyzing our process of chasing CPT's and leading the SIOC testing at CHA1. I was able to build 3 tools, a Pack Head Count Macro (Appendix A & B), a Pack Rate Puller Macro (Appendix C & D), and a Planning Board for Outbound Macro (Appendix E & F) all of these tools were created to be used on Day and Night Shift. I was able to analyze the process of chasing CPT's using two methods, a profitability analysis and analyzing the rates of packers. Finally, I helped start up and run SIOC testing at our site. To show the effectiveness of the three tools I have created, I will explain how the process worked before the tool I created, describe how my tool works, and then detail how it changed the process, for each tool. The analysis of chasing CPT's I will first talk about our current CPT chasing program, then walk through my two analyses. Then I will discuss how I set up SIOC testing, how I ensured it would continue running successfully and the plan I have put in place to ensure it continues effectively once I leave. Then I will talk about the benefits of each project. Finally, I will wrap up with a conclusion and acknowledgements. Pack Head Count Macro Prior to my macro being used, process assistants (PA) would regularly call out for head counts. They will call out to each process guide (PG) for a head ... It seemed like a beautiful day so far, the birds were singing and the sun was shining. It was just a shame that one of the more beautiful days had to be this very day, of all days. It wasn't exactly the worst day of her life, well, not yet at least. But it wouldn't be making the highlight reel either. Today was the very day Amelia Dubrinsky was set to marry an Alpha of a fellow royal line. There were four royal packs left; it was a more definitive name for original bloodlines. Everything in their land was made by their own hands. Sure, there had been some advances with plumbing but it remained a tradition and a privilege to make their own homes. It was as if someone could feel the love each family had put into making their home. "We still have several hours." Amelia noted as she leaned on the wooden door frame, her gaze swooping over the warmly lit bedroom. In the left hand side of the room her dress hung on a stump that was supported by a metal rod that spanned out toward the floor. She'd never considered love, or marrying really. She'd spent most of her life training with her brothers, there wasn't much that she thought of that she could define as a young woman's dream. All that really mattered in her mind was her home and their safety, it was the only reason she was stepping up to take a stranger's hand in marriage. "Amelia, it's going to take a few hours." Her mother cautioned, pointing her eloquently painted nail toward the wooden stool before her. With a defiant groan, Amelia made her way into the room. • 9. Ninemile Wolves by Rick Bass The Ninemile Wolves is a compelling nonfiction story told by Rick Bass, while Bass approaches the wolves with a mixture of awe, compassion, and fascination; others in the area are less welcoming, including some local ranchers, hunters and politicians. The wolves are studied by Bass, Rick Jimenez, and others of how they are endeavoring for their presence in the Ninemile Valley in Montana. Bass consumes his reader into his work by using both scientific and spiritual relevance of the wolves, and how they balance the ecosystem. While the biologist are cheering for the survival of the Ninemile pack ranchers, hunters, and politicians are concerned that they will attack livestock and decimate the population of elk and deer. However, despite all the stereotypes put into place the wolves survive off small mammals, and stray away from large pray. Bass anthropomorphizes the wolves by saying they have a soul like humans, and their spirit has an effect on the Ninemile Valley. In the begging chapters the first set of wolves were found on a rancher's property, the rancher let them stay long enough for the pups to mature; a month later, after attacks on dogs and calves, probably by coyotes, the wolves were removed, kept in captivity for several weeks and released. One pup escaped, and then was captured; the other two died of starvation. The Montana Department of Fisheries and Wildlife Preservation asked the USFWS to remove the pups because they might affect Montana's biggest cash crop: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, there are three main steps of hunting, and these steps are implemented to perform optimization. This species of wolf are large compared to their predecessors. They grow up to 6 feet long and two and a half feet tall. Even though their name is the "gray" wolf they come in a variety of colors. They can weigh as little as 80 and as much as 120 pounds. Gray wolves are very social animals just as we are . They live in packs of 8 with a male and a female alpha. The alphas lead hunts and make most of the pack's decisions like where to settle. The pack works together to feed the pups until they are mature enough to join the hunt. Wolves depend on whines, barks, howls, and growls to communicate. They are carnivores, meaning they eat primarily meat. This species of wolf hunt mostly ungulates, or hoofed animals, like deer or moose. They will eat the occasional rodent when times are rough. Nobody knows how it came to be, but they do know this: the Power is changing, evolving all the time. It sees all but it does not know all. The Power likes to learn. It likes to test its subjects and watch the outcome. The Power is a sentient being. Though it has no physical form and is confined to the Mountain, its influence extends far beyond its home of rock. The Power started taking an interest in the animals that evolved around it when the Earth was young. Only when the mammals started to come, and the Mountain grew in size with the shifting plates below did the Power have enough energy to begin to act on its whims. The first animal to come under the Power's influence was the wolf. A primitive creature, yet complex nonetheless. The wolf hunted and scavenged, were social creatures, communicating through howls and yips and body language and the Power was fascinated by this. The Power wanted to understand this, and when it had amassed enough energy, it created its own wolf.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They have a thin tail and a triangular muzzle with long whiskers. Mice weigh between 12 and 30 gms in general and are found in different species such as house mice, spiny mice, deer mice, and dormice. You can see mice in brown, grey or white color. With thin, hairy tails, mice can be found all over the world. Most of the times, mice tend to live not more than one year. However, under special circumstances such as in detention, they can survive for as long as six years. Rat is a medium–sized to large rodent that has a long, thin tail. His reminiscence of John Thornton rushed through his mind when he fixed his gaze upon the brilliance of the Yeehats' crackling fire. The thirst for vengeance bubbled in the pits of his stomach when he grimaced at the natives through the trees. He had very few sentiments left for John Thornton, but the fire always managed to flood his thoughts with the remembrance of John's affectionate visage. Days had passed and the Yeehats were packing their camp to move away for the winter, for a blizzard was coming on.The pack had now developed a credence in Buck and familiarized themselves with the idea of having him has their leader. Buck ran through the small opening Mikee left open between the cave and him and ran out deep into the woods. As he approached the clearing, there was a sudden, searing pain that shot through his back. It was the wooden sticks the humans projected to catch their fish. Buck fell to the ground, whimpering in agony. Before Buck closed his eyes, he saw Mikee in the distance and the pack and out of the corner of his other eye, he saw Nipmuk in tears. Buck awoke hours later in the dark of the night, in mild to moderate pain. It was moist and hot. He was slightly uncomfortable, from the pain, but the warmth of the fire kept him company. Seeing the face of adoration from Nipmuk caused past emotions to resurface, but this time they were anything but negative feelings inclusive of vengeance and sorrow. Denali?s Wolves Essay examples Argumentative essay Denali's Wolves For many years my family and I have traveled around the country to visit our national parks and view the wildlife they protect. I've been from Hawaii to Maine to the Virgin Islands. My favorite memories as a child are those of camping with my family in thesenational parks. One of the few parks I have not had the pleasure of visiting is Denali National Park in Alaska. Last year while reading a magazine, I learned of something that troubled me very much. Denali National Park is home to the majority of our nation's and the world's most frequently viewed wolf population. This summer alone 30,000 tourists experienced these wolves without even leaving their vehicles. Denali is Alaska's number one tourist attraction, and covers more than 6 million acres. It began as Mt. McKinley National Park in 1917, but wasn't until 1980 that the name was change to Denali National Park. People travel to Denali to view Mt. They have the ability to hunt caribou, moose, Dall sheep, beaver, and ground squirrel. They use howling and scent marking to scare of rival packs. They also show us their rank in the pack by the position in which they carry their tale. They accomplish all this with a brain twice the size of a domestic dog, and extremely developed social skills. Not only are these wolves the most famous in the world, one group is the world's oldest known family lineage of any nonhuman social vertebrate in the wild. • 33. Wolves: Keeping Nature in Balance Essay Everyone knows of the apocryphal evil that is wolves, hunting our children, killing our livestock, taking the best deer. Having a wolf hunting season seems like a no brainer, right? But what if that's not how wolves are, what if they are innocent, so to say. Should they be hunted? The short answer is no. There should not be a wolf hunting season because many of the thoughts on wolves are incorrect; hunting would compromise wolf studies, and the population is already suffering. We have all heard of the Big Bad Wolf, stalking children and spreading fear and chaos. It commits heinous crimes and deserves to be destroyed. This is a misdemeanor. This happens because baying dogs appear as an attacker to wolves, causing them to go on the defense. The best solution would be not to use hunting dogs, but this option is exceedingly undesirable. Multiple decades and thousands of dollars have been invested into the research of wolves and their behavior. One of the most successful ongoing studies takes place every winter on Isle Royale. They collar and track the wolves, studying their hunting habits and interactions with other packs. While visiting Isle Royale this summer, one of the Park Rangers said to me, "Wolves make great family members, but awful neighbors. Kind of like the Mafia." While this may seem strange, what she meant was this; wolves are especially munificent towards their pack mates. They are loyal and some of the best parents, especially the fathers. However, they have been known to assassinate neighboring pack members at times ("All About Wolves"). Isle Royale is a prime example of this; limited space and resources cause constant fighting between the packs. While on the mainland wolves don't fight over territory as much due to more space. Researchers can use this to their advantage. How? By creating a fake wolf pack. How it works is if a pack is attacking livestock, they can usually eliminate the one or two problem wolves and not have to worry. This doesn't always work, which then results in exterminating the pack. There is another solution they are trying. Instead, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. What Is A Lone Howl Affect Communication? A long piercing howl shatters the quiet night of a northern forest. The howl grows into a chorus of yelps and barks, and the valley echoes to the chilling sound. The leader of the pack starts the noise, while other pack members, as well as other wolf packs, join in (O'Toole 22). Among wolves, communication is a very highly developed skill. For instance, the howl of the pack leader has many different meanings. Most of the time a lone howl is a warning for other packs. It tells them to stay away, for there are many young to be protected and food to be guarded (O'Toole 23). A howl can also be a way of marking their territory. Many wolves howl when they feel another pack is too close. Some wolves howl when they are lost or trying to find another member of the pack. Most wolves use this howl at least once a day to locate missing pups or other pack members (Primate). To wolves, the territory that they occupy (the territory of... Generally, bared teeth with ears erect and pointed back can indicate a threat by a dominant male (Wolfhaven). In contrast, a closed mouth, slitlike eyes, and ears pulled forward (and close to their head) will most likely indicate subordinate behavior (Wolfhaven). Wolves also use their tail position to communicate emotion. Threatening wolves hold their tails high, almost perpendicular, while more submissive wolves lower themselves before dominant pack members. These lower class members often have their tails tucked between their legs (Primate). • 36. Essay on Three Poems, One Theme: Nature's Perception of Time In three poems – "Old Woodrat's Stinky House", "The Mountain Spirit", and "Boat of a Million Years"– Gary Snyder uses the concept of deep time to show us how nature views time and implies that humanity needs to be able to see time the same way. Snyder's poems imply that he believes people have forgotten their place in the natural world and that we should try to regain our respect for nature. "Old Woodrat's Stinky House" explains what is wrong with how we perceive time. "The Mountain Spirit" shows why nature views time as more like a singular thing than a series of segments like humans do. "Boat of a Million Years" hints at a solution and implies that we should relax and follow nature's example. First, the poem "Old Woodrat's Stinky ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poet is also implicitly telling us that we are ruining our planet by finishing the poem with: –Coyote says "You people stay put here, learn your place, do good things. Me, I'm traveling on." Coyote, the creator of the earth in this poem and often a deity of many First Nation cultures, is so disgusted with humanity that he decides to move on but he leaves with a message to "learn your place". Gary Snyder's poem implies that humanity has become detached with nature and that we need to learn our place and learn to stop "pissing on everything". Second, the poem "The Mountain Spirit" is about a dialogue between the poet's speaker (probably Gary Snyder himself) and a mountain spirit. "Ceaseless wheel of lives" the is first line of the poem – it is also repeated throughout the entire poem – is meant to show that life existed before and will continue to exist after mankind. The "Ceaseless wheel of lives" also suggests that time is not broken up into a series of segments. At one point in the poem, the mountain spirit remarks "But what do you know of minerals and stone". The mountain spirit's incredulity implies that Gary Snyder thinks people have a hard time understanding a large–scale view of time. Snyder goes on to tell a poem to the mountain spirit – a poem within a poem – that tells the story of the life of a mountain to illustrate how a mountain perceives time. The ...
