Fall Of Atari
From 1972 to 1983, the video game giant Atari rose and fell. It fell due to a combination of factors,
including bad tradeoffs, a surplus issue, and a deficiency in entrepreneurial ability. The Founder
Nolan Bushnell sold Atari to the wrong company, administrators tended to overestimate their game
and console demand, and finally Atari lost its founder and best programmers. With all these factors,
Atari closed it's door for the final time in 1983. When Atari was created, it started off with success in
merely arcade games, but the founder wanted more. The founder, Nolan Bushnell, along with his
programmer Al Alcorn, created the hit Pong his Atari arcade games on June 28th, 1972. With this
hit, Bushnell became ambitious, and wanted to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company came out with two games that stood out as complete failures: Pac Man and E.T. Pac
Man, a popular arcade game, was to be released in 1982 for their VCS console. It was highly
anticipated, but the game did impress consumers the way they thought they would be. Atari made 12
million cartridges, but only 7 million were bought. The game that truly buried Atari was the E.T.
game. They hired Steven Spielberg to create it in six weeks, when it normally took six months to
make a game, so that the game would be on the shelves for Christmas. The game was horrific, most
of the copies were returned by both retailers and consumers. about 2.5 to 3.5 million games were left
unsold, and furthermore, 3.5 to 4.5 million games were returned. All of the copies were dumped in a
New Mexico landfill never to be played again. When Atari finally decided to make a new console, it
was too late, the console was nothing compared to the competitor's. With the surplus of games and
consoles, Atari had lost $536 million. Finally, by 1983, Atari went bankrupt. In a landfill in New
Mexico, Atari's final game still hides below a mountain of dirt. Millions of E.T. cartridges were
buried, along with the company. Due to poor decision making in the company, overproduction, and
lack of programming ability, Atari fell to its rising competitors in

Reflection Paper About Travel To America
This year, I went on a 3–week voyage to China and returned to America with plenty of new
knowledge. The following story describes it in detail.
Preface: In our house, we were putting all the gifts, everyday items, etc. in our bulky suitcases. At
that moment, we were ready as a family to drive to Los Angeles and fly in a plane to 北京 then
domestically transfer to 西安. Well, it turns out that the process was going to be exceedingly harder
than I thought. We not far–off through the road later in the car, we had to go back and check
something in our house. After checking, I rested in the car, hoping nothing would go out of hand.
Arriving to the massive parking lot garage, we came to park in a spot we rented. Since we could not
find our parking space, we just decided to stumble upon whatever our car fits in and isn't reserved;
though it took ages. We were rushing to the shuttle stop while being stressed out that we are going to
miss both planes. Thankfully, a hotel manager called a taxi to arrive and drive us to the LAX
international airport. Arriving, we handed over $25.00 to the taxi he requested and appeared 30
minutes before boarding. 30 mediocre minutes later, we were at the point of boarding our plane. In
the plane, I was disappointed by the poor quality of the entertainment. At least it was only 12 hours
and 40 minutes of the boredom. In the plane, it was difficult to lay my hands on a movie that is
worth the watch.
Though there were some movies and TV shows that were at

In the Moment Essay
"Time is an absurdity, an abstraction. The only thing that matters is the moment." (Nolan 12). If this
is true, then in the story "Memento Mori" and the movie Memento, it is ironic how the main
character, Leonard, who is suffering from severe memory loss, is constantly trying to figure out the
past, even though he knows he will not remember it once he learns what has happened. His wife is
dead, and he is searching through a system of notes and Polaroid pictures for her killer. Though the
story is unclear at first, through narration, structure, and repetition, the plot of the story becomes
clearer.
The story is told in reverse order. Since the events in Memento are presented backwards, this allows
the viewer to get into the mind frame of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Narration in a movie or story is what people rely on to know what is going on in the plot and what is
true or false information. Without narration in a movie or story, it would make it difficult to find out
who is right and who is wrong. In addition, narration is what sets the tone for a movie or story so the
viewer never really questions what the narrator is saying because under normal circumstances we'd
believe it to be true. Narration is supposed to make things easier for the viewer to understand, in a
way it simplifies and breaks down the plot into a person's thoughts which is much easier to catch on
to than figuring out the story on one's own.
In order to truly enjoy the film Memento and the story "Memento Mori," it is necessary to
understand the structure and order of the plot. To see how Leonard tracked down his wife's killer,
the movie ends with what is, chronologically, the story's beginning. The structure of the film and
story is quite unique since the facts are not presented in chronological order, or following the casual
relationship. It is hard to provide a logical version of the story, since at the end of the film we realize
the unreliability of the main character's recollections. From the beginning of the movie and story, we
have to grasp the unusual structure of daily events and the structure of

Identity And Truth In Shutter Island And Bart Layton's The...
Martin Scorsese in his 2010 film Shutter Island and Bart Layton in his 2012 documentary The
Imposter incorporate conventions of the genre, film and documentary techniques, stylistic features
such as narrative perspective, characterisation and camera angles to explore how people's perception
of identity and the truth can be manipulated. Both texts entail a similar chronological narrative
structure although in different forms, for example, Shutter Island uses dreams and flashbacks,
comparatively, The Imposter uses reenactments to show the viewers events that have already
happened. Shutter Island shares the story of a man shrewdly manipulated to protect him from the
truth, while The Imposter investigates the way truth can be manipulated and ... Show more content

Layton has targeted a wider audience as mature viewers would be more interested in documentary
and factual events, although Layton was aiming to intend his documentary at a younger target
audience which was intentionally High School students ranging from years 10–12. Whereas, in
Shutter Island older viewers ranging from 50 to 60 may not enjoy the storyline and theme of the
film. The gender of the audience viewing The Imposter and Shutter Island can be either male and
female as these texts are for both genders as these texts are for any individual who enjoys mystery,
wanting to problem solve and guess what will happen next. Thinkers will enjoy Shutter Island and
The Imposter as these texts involve the audience to think about the concepts overall, also people
who enjoy harrowing and complex films will find these texts exhilarating as they will be on edge of
their seats wondering what would happen next.
Narrative perspective – Technique one
Scorsese and Layton both use narrative perspective and narrative structure to reveal their central
ideas in a way that would leave the audience with many unanswered questions. While both texts
follow a chronological structure, building the audience's belief that what they are seeing is the truth,
the directors use flashbacks or reenactments, to gradually reveal parts of the plot or back–story.
However, while Scorsese uses dreams and flashbacks to reveal images and experiences in Teddy's
past, which

Heat Movie Analysis
"Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if
you feel the heat around the corner." Robert De Niro's famous line playing the criminal Niel
McCauley sets the tone for Michel Mann's Heat. Mann is able to have high–octane action one would
expect from a crime movie while displaying intimacy in the main characters. The combination of the
two is what makes the film a crime drama (even though Michael Mann argues that it doesn't belong
to a genre). That intimacy is what makes Heat memorable. Mann creates the intimacy in a number of
ways: through types of shots such as close–ups and zoom–ins, the score and the soundtrack, his use
of lighting, camera angles, filming locations and use of shadows among others. The utilization of
close–ups and zoom–ins allows the audience to get to know the characters. It shows the wear and
tear on the characters faces. We can see the pain, the hurt; we're able to feel how tired the characters
are from their deep sighs and the dark circles under their eyes. Michael Mann wants the audience to
become as close to the characters as possible. We are introduced to Al Pacino during a sex scene,
that's about as intimate as the character–to–audience relationship can get. The intimacy is at an all–
time high during the coffee shop scene in which the previously mentioned quote is taken from.
Roger Ebert (1995) stated, "The scene concentrates on the truth of 'Heat', which is that these cops
and robbers need

Jane Johnston Schoolcraft Analysis
Jane Johnston Schoolcraft, America's first Female Native American writer and poet, exemplifies a
unique multicultural influence in her writing as a result of her intermarried parents. Robert Dale
Parker (2009), in his paper "Contemporary Anticolonialist Reading and the Collaborative Writing of
Jane Johnston Schoolcraft," describes her controversial writings "as representing the cacophonous
medley of internal contradictions that she lived in" (p.52). Specifically, that of her poem Pensive
Hours, which exhibits the layered nature of her works, shown through her Anglo–American heritage
(with an emphasis towards Christian) tones hidden alongside her native spirituality, establishes Jane
Johnston Schoolcraft as an American poet influenced by more than English Romanticism. Michelle
Esther Alexander Fankhauser (2010), identifies Schoolcraft's dual influential environment, in her
paper "Booked: 'Womanhood is too Tightly Bound to Give Me Scope'" which asserts, "Schoolcraft's
choice of poetry as a genre meant to be read and heard out loud is an indicator that even when
working within a literate tradition, her upbringing in an oral one was never far from her mind" (p.
52–53). Schoolcraft, much like many of the early American Renaissance writers, were unable to
write in isolation and consequently their works were inadequate in their entirety to be exclusively
romantic pieces of literature (Parker 2009). Therefore, neither can Schoolcraft's work be singularly
influenced by her Ojibwe

The Importance Of Being A Manager During Times Of Success...
Introduction:
The following Case Analysis details the many aspects of being a manager during times of success
and struggle. Ron Bent, a plant manager at Engstrom Auto Mirror plant in Indiana, implements a
bonus incentive plan in order to raise morale and productivity in his company. The following
analysis will demonstrate how at its inception, the plan is successful in its goals, but eventually
starts to decline when a downturn hit the industry. In this paper, several recommendations will be
made on whether or not the Scanlon plan should be abandoned, and strategies Ron Bent can take to
increase performance at the Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant.
Analysis: The Scanlon plan was introduced in the 1930's by Joseph Scanlon, an accountant and
member of the Steelworkers union (2). The Scanlon plan that Engstrom used focused on cost saving
and higher production, which would then increase labor savings. Adapting the plan is a long process,
and Bent made sure 75% of employees were on board. Engstroms version encouraged suggestions at
all levels, and encouraged input to help productivity. The plan focused on transparency of financial
and business data to all ranks of the organization (2). With transparency, allowing suggestions, and
an encouragement of new ideas, Bent believed that the plan would provide a source of intrinsic
motivation to employees of Engstrom. As stated earlier, Bent ensured that at least 75% of his
workforce agreed to the plan. By doing so, he was examining the

Auteurism In The Dark Knight
Introduction Considering the collaborative process of filmmaking, especially nowadays in most film
production, the concept of there being a singular creative supervisor is debatable. Nonetheless one
cannot deny the existence and driving force of directional motifs and instances of thematic and
stylistic elements within the work of filmmakers like Tim Burton and Alfred Hitchcock. These
directors indicate that within traditions and genres lies the overall definition of an auteur: a director
whose inventive traits are listed throughout his or her work like a signature. Auteurism rose to the
surface in the 1950s French New Wave criticism as an appraisal of Hollywood directors who were
ready to deny the rules of the studio system and create films ... Show more content on

The irregular closed up shot of Bane's face has the effect of unveiling Bruce Wayne's fear towards
the villain, as well as capturing Bane's mysterious and overwhelming presence by illuminating only
one side of his face. In addition, Nolan establishes the juxtaposition between the blurriness and
sharpness that makes the character's face appear as if it was outstretching from the frame. While the
boundaries between the softness and sharpness in Nolan's typical close up shots are clearly
established, the delineation in this particular scene is obscure. In effect, the shot resembles a person's
subjective point of view that evokes the universal emotions of shock and

Crime And Deviance In The Dark Knight By Christopher Nolan
Throughout "The Dark Knight" by Christopher Nolan crime and deviance is seen throughout the
film. Crime and deviance in The Dark Knight has two faces as society accepts crime for those
whose are helping them and at the same time punishes those who are punished. Society in Gotham
accepts crime when the Batman commits it to help for the betterment of society; however, crime is
not accepted when it is committed by mob bosses, gangs, criminal cops, and most importantly
through the joker. The forms of deviancy/crime which are seen throughout the film is the Labeling
Approach, Human Rights Approach, and Human Diversity Approach. The Labelling Approach is a
theory in which an individual's identity is determined or influenced by the terms that is used to
describe or classify them, through the use of serotyping someone. This is seen within The Dark
Knight when the Joker recruits those who have been labelled as mentally insane, or have been
outcast by society. This makes them believe that have a sense of being within society as they start to
create their own society, and those who do not follow the norms that the Joker puts into place.
Through allowing the joker to recruit those who have a negative label, do to the Joker having a label
himself of being a villain by both sides of society. Not being accepted by anyone, even his own,
which forces him to act on such a label through committing crimes that are not even the norms of
the criminal society. This behavior is being seen as a rationale by both sides of society the general
public, and criminals by not allowing the Joker and his associates fit within the norms that are being
set for them. This also helps society within Gotham to make sure that those with a label are not
socially accepted such as those that have a mental illness, and who perform criminal acts. However,
at the same time it gives the people of Gotham as a sense of power over those that have a label, and
the sense that they have a position over society. Furthermore, the Human Rights Approach argues
that crime occurs whenever a human right is violated, no matter of what context the crime is being
committed, regardless of whether the crime was legal or not. This is seen within The Dark Knight
when

The setting changes while Francie continues to mature into a woman. She becomes 16, and is
beginning to lead a life of her own. The family leaves the grieving they had for Johnny behind. Not

½ years of mourning for Johnny, Sergeant Mc Shane asks Katie to marry him. War rages through the
country. While he and Katie make arrangements for the fall wedding and gifts of money and
whatnot, Francie makes headway in her personal life.
In college, a handsome young lad holding the name Ben Blake, seems to fancy Francie as they go on
various study dates. He helps her cram for college entrance exams. Though she fails the first time,
she later tries again and gets accepted into Michigan University that Ben chose for her to apply.
Meanwhile, Katie receives a gift of $1,000.00 from Mc Shane, which she later uses for Francie's
college money, and a gift to Evy– $200.00. Laurie Nolan gets her last name changed to Mc Shane.
The Nolans move from their humble apartment flat to the rich Mc Shane house. Neeley grows older
and Francie can't help but notice he is so alike to Johnny.

which that came with some money involved. He had played for the stallions and prospects. Each
team costed a pretty penny and his mom had to fit the bill. Jason 's parents did the same but the
difference was about college. Jason wanted to go to play college whereas Nolan didn 't want to make
plans that might not be worth his troubles. When they got into their 8th grade year they had been the
talk of the town. Before their freshman year had started they had gone to some camps to show off
for high school coaches. Nolan and Jason didn 't not let anyone down. Nolan had gone ⅘ and jason
had gone 5/5. It was very neat for the kids and they became workout buddies after. Every day they

Cause And Effect Of Video Games
The Effects of Video Games
Taz Ramsay
Lamar Community College
The Effects of Video Games "Video games have been around since the early 1970's". Computer
Space was the first video game to be produced, and it was created and developed by a company
called Nutting Associates. "In 1972, a company called Atari introduced a game called Pong". Atari
was formed by a person named Nolan Bushnell, a developer of Computer Space, who left Nutting
Associates to found Atari, which then produced Pong. "Pong was the first successful commercial
arcade video game". (How Stuff Works, 2017) How is a video game made? A video game is taken
through a step by step process requiring five main steps. The first step to making the video game is
the design or layout of the video game. The next step is to grabbing the materials needed to make
the game. The materials needed to make the game are different for each game, and it is based on the
game and/or game console. The third step in making a video game is going through the
manufacturing process. The steps include creating the story, captioning the games action with art,
recording dialogue and sound effects, writing the program, testing the game, burning the game or
disc, and packaging the game. These are all important for the next step of the next step in making
the game, which is ensuring the quality of the game. The final step is improvement, because the
producers want people to buy more games or stuff to help unlock stuff in the game.

Bill Gates and Nolan Bushnell
Pioneers of Computer Programming
When you think of 21st century computing, two things come to mind: Windows and video games.
Learning Team A introduces you to the two men responsible for these phenomena – Bill Gates and
Nolan Bushnell.
William Henry Gates III
During that late 1960's and early 1970's, BASIC was one of the premier programming languages. At
that time, Bill Gates and his friend Paul Allen made the commitment to learn BASIC by reading the
user manuals. In exchange for computer time, they made an agreement with a local company called
the Computer Center Corporation to provide de–bugging services for software on the company's
DEC machine. This time was used not only to search for errors, but also to study the operating ...

After seeing the magazine article, Gates contacted Ed Roberts of the MITS Company and proposed
to that he write some BASIC software for the Altair. The MITS personnel were impressed with the
initial work that Gates and his friends had completed and decided to meet with them to test the
team's code. After a successful demonstration of the code, Gates made the decision to leave school
and move to Albuquerque and work with MITS on the Altair.
After the move Gates would devote his energies to Microsoft, a company that he would establish in
1975 with Allen. Guided by a belief that the computer would be a valuable tool on every office
desktop and in every home, they began developing software for personal computers. Microsoft
would sell its BASIC system to MITS, NCR and Intel. It proved to be more cost effective for
companies to buy Microsoft software rather than spend the time and money to develop their own.
In January of 1979, Gates made the decision to move Microsoft to Seattle, Washington. Gates
believed that part of the country was better suited for recruiting programmers. Microsoft adopted a
new standard for hiring employees; the company decided to hire only the most gifted and intelligent
new college graduates rather than experienced programmers. The company was looking for talent
that came with no previous programming biases. The expansions of personnel would lead to the
development of a

Film Analysis Of 'The Prestige' By Christopher Nolan
A suspenseful tale built on illusions and trickeries, "The Prestige" has been established as one of the
most criminally underrated movies of the century. In this filmic masterpiece, director and writer
Christopher Nolan, plays a magic trick on the audience and misdirects the viewers, but also hides
the secret obviously in plain sight. Co–written by his brother, Jonathan Nolan, and adapted from a
novel by Christopher Priest, this film is set in the nineteenth century London, and deals with an
obsessive rivalry between two magicians that are willing to sacrifice everything they have to create
the ultimate illusion. In this movie, Nolan leaves the audience guessing and gasping at its twists and
unexpected turns, with a dauntingly brilliant script, thought provoking narration, unique
cinematographic details, and a beautifully talented cast. Christopher Nolan has been acclaimed as
one of the most successful filmmakers for his non–linear storytelling, labyrinthine plots, and
metafictive elements, and "The Prestige" illustrates all those filmmaking styles incredibly. Some
movie fanatics even view this movie as Nolan's most complex film from a narrative structure point
of view. We can witness that from the very first frame of the movie. The movie begins with a shot of
several hats inexplicably scattered in a forest, with a voiceover asking the audience "Are you

Bead Game Essay
Bead Game by Ishu Patel was created in 1977. Bead Game is a stop motion animated film that was
created by arranging single beads into shapes lines, mammals, and mythological creatures. Further
into the film the creatures absorb and devour one another, creating other figures and creatures from
the remaining beads. These beads end up evolving into scenes of modern human warfare. In the
beginning of the film Patel begins with on simple white bead and continues to add other beads and
color– making his arrangements of the beads into animated figures. While the beads dance there is
sound of percussion that compliments the movement of the beads due to the synchronization of both
sound and movement in the animation. The film reminded me of the creation of life; ... Show more

Patel animates the theory of human evolution by showing a monkey transforming into a caveman
and then into present–day human. The film is successful in synchronizing the characters towards the
end of the film. Patel shows synchronization through his animating when there are two men
throwing a spear at one another and the beads are arranged in a way that the two mirror each other.
Another historical event that is portrayed is ancient warfare, dating all the way back to what seems
to be around 2700 BCE. I began to notice a pattern or a timeline up to this point, starting with the
creation of life then going through important moments of the history of human creation. I think the
creator of this film is trying to say that a design can start off as something so small and simple, and
then fueled by creativity the design turns into an art form. This interpretation that I have made isn't
obvious; it is just something that I took away from the animation after watching it. Something that is
noticeable throughout this animation is how frequent the use of red is. Patel used red for his
creatures that showed characteristics of being

Database Management And Information Structure Essay
A customized website:
As a new business it is essential for us to make an identity in the market and since there already are
a few competitors using clone scripts on their websites, which is a generic web platform. Our focus
is to invest in a customized web–ordering platform, which will help us build a unique identity and
give us originality. It will be a good start to kick off with a unique, secure and a feature rich website
that gets people to trust you.
Social media friendly and SEO:
Database management and information structure on our website will be built very strong with our
web development team so that any search engine giving us more visibility can easily read our data.
Our competitors, both Food ninja and Menu log are currently using a flash based platform, which is
not a right extension for SEO, as the SEO cannot identify a flash platform. This is going to give us a
strong strategic upper hand in reaching out to people by having more visibility.
Creating a larger database:
We will be creating an exhaustive database of restaurants in wellington by partnering with them,
even the ones who are not keen, we will work on a temporary strategic alliance to show them our

What Do You Feel Was The Root Cause Of The Problem / Issue...
1. What do you feel was the root cause of the problem/issue discussed above? Why?
The two problems this hospital is currently facing are dealing with financial issues and their mission
statement. As finance can never be the underlying cause of an issue, only the result of an issue, this
problem is cut out of the picture for now. The issue starts with employees misinterpretation of the
mission statement, due to it being unclear. The mission statement was created by top management;
therefore, I believe the root of the problem for Faith's Community Hospital started with top
management.
If employees were misinterpreting the mission statement and had to use their own code of ethics and
personal beliefs, then the top management did not do their job of making all employees believe in
the same idea. This can be a cultural problem, a miscommunication or not enough training, but
regardless this all comes down to top management. If top management were able to train the
employees to ensure each employee represented the same code of ethics and beliefs, then there
would be no problem with the mission statement, which could lead to no financial issues. 2. Was the
investigation of the problem the most appropriate way to do this? Is there some other things that
they should have done? If so, how would you do it differently?
Once the hospital noticed they were having problems the CEO, Executive Assistant, Financial
Analyst and Operations Director stepped in to do some investigation.

Internal And External Factors That Affect The Corporate...
There is a conflict in the workplace due to both the internal and external factors. With a stressed
economy and ever snowballing prices of basic amenities like food, gas and other numerous
commodities, these peripheral strains cause problems on employee's home life. These external
conflicts are seen on their work and internal conflict arises. These peripheral stresses put hard–
hitting on the economic conditions employers. Often the employees feel their work area as burden
and consequently lack of interest in the work arises. Instability in an organization can be due to the
following reasons:
ORGANISATIONAL:
When there is reformation and reorganizing taking place in an organization in a short time frame,
leads to subversion of the organization. It occurs due to the following:
(a) Change in organizational structure.
The decision makers are not aware that how reformation and reorganizing process will affect the
corporate culture. It is fairly noticeable ,that not only the structure has been transformed but also the
cultural change has taken place instantly. Cultural changes will necessitate much more time than
changing the organizational structures. When there are melds or procurements there are clangs in
some segments which leads to aggravation of the employees. So the managers are pleased on these
cultural issues which are handled by the decision formulators of the company.
(b) Lack of communication or understanding of the organizational strategies:

a new planet is necessary to keep the human race from becoming extinct. The movie Interstellar
shows what actions need to take place when the entire race of humanity is at stake. "As someone

About science, About how the two may or may not be related, About dimensions, About

(Huffington Post). This film lures viewers in as it raises curiosity of space and possible life on other
planets, as well as anticipating the final days of earth. Director Christopher Nolan is known for
making great movies that sell out box offices around the country. He is responsible for movies such
"The Dark Knight Rises", "Man of Steel", "Inception" and many more other household names. "The
fact that his last four movies in the past five years have each won "Movie of The Year" should be

Analysis Of Canadian Politician Ron Johnson
"Pricing is actually a pretty simple and straight forward thing. Customers will not pay literally a
penny more than the true value of the product" (Johnson, R. n.d.). The introductory citation by
Canadian Politician Ron Johnson lays the foundation for this case assignment. A case assignment
composed of proposals to numerous companies pertaining to their pricing strategy. For products
created by their individual organizations. Let's kickoff this case assignment by exploring possible
strategies, for a company that recently developed a new 3D television.
3D television:
A company has produced a state–of–the–art 3D television that contains unique features, that is
different from other 3D televisions currently in the market. This company acquired a patent on a
new technology that doesn't involve the end user to put on 3D glasses to enjoy the effect and display
of this contemporary television. Due, to the patent and superior technology this company will revel
in the advantage it will gain over other companies for at–least a year or two. So, it would be prudent
that this company heeds the following advice, in protecting their interest concerning the pricing
strategy for this advanced 3D television.
"Consider your overall marketing goals, such as penetrating new markets with new products, or
maintaining a higher market share with existing products compared to your closest competitors"
(Paley, N. 2006). Since, technology is constantly developing and manufacturers are always

Shutter Island Film Analysis
The following is written to examine a connection made between the varying texts using
manipulation and how it impacts the audience's perception of reality. The texts I will include which
are evident of manipulation are 'Shutter Island ' a visual thriller directed by Martin Scorsese,
'Inception ' a visual action, adventure conducted by Christopher Nolan, 'Twelfth Night ' written by
William Shakespeare, and 'Tell–Tale Heart ' produced by Edgar Allan Poe. I decided to choose texts
that are recognized for their brilliance. Both visual and written texts are contrasted in relation to
time, the visual texts are of modern era whereas the written texts are of a previous generation.

Towards the final scenes of the film, Daniels becomes increasingly aware of the impact he has made
on his society, hence the title 'Shutter Island//Shot–her Island'. Daniels realizes his guilt through the
way the characters have helped him to discover who he really is, Daniels is able to sum it up to the
audience through the dialogue "Which would be worse: To live as a monster, or to die as a good
man?" The audience is able to understand that Daniels has accepted his reality, making him the
'good man'. A common theme today is not accepting reality or being in denial, this is due to the way
denying the reality of something enables the body to cope (bodies defence mechanism1). The
character of Daniels helps to influence today's society by showing us that accepting the reality we
create is better than to regret or deny it. Thus, changing the way, we perceive reality.
In the film 'Inception ', Nolan influences the audience to connect to the character of Dominic Cobb.
Like 'Shutter Island' the character (Cobb) in this film is also revolved around. Nolan uses a theme
evident in today's society, the perception of reality to develop and connect the portrayal of Cobb and
connect the audience. In terms of Cobb, this theme can be translated to his internal conflict of
dreams versus reality. Nolan inflects an emotional connection to Cobb and the audience through this
internal conflict. A

Mature Themes in The Dark Knight Essay examples
In a movie where good and evil are divided by a very thin line, the Dark Knight rises up to fight
against injustice and corruption in Gotham City. An action sequel to the original Batman Begins,
this installment is a lot darker filled with more explosion, twists, and suspense. For the first time, a
comic has been integrated into the issues of the real world. With the help of District Attorney
Harvey Dent and Lieutenant Gordon, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining mob members and
clean the streets of Gotham for good. Their success is only short–lived when they encounter the
Joker, a mysterious mastermind who is out to prove that nobility cannot hold in a world of anarchy.

Nolan creates an atmosphere where one scene will move steadily to the next, building anticipation
until all hell breaks loose. Nolan has really done his research with this film as he explores a deeper
meaning in good vs. evil. It makes the film seem so real life unlike most fantasy superhero movie.
For some reason, the viewer can actually imagine this happening in real life. The lights and effects
are very promising. Christian Bale returns to play the billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne and his alter
ego Batman. His role in this movie is much more in depth than his first one. His first role seemed to
be more at a superficial level and not often did he have to fight within himself. His adversary, the
Joker is played by Heath Ledger who he would clashed with throughout the movie. A role that
defined Ledger's career, he makes the original Joker played by Jack Nicholson, look like child's
play. Michael Caine returns to play the loyal and always dependable Alfred the Butler. Katie Holmes
has been replaced by Maggie Gyllenhall to play Rachael Dawes. Gyllenhall connects with the
character much better than Holmes ever did. It seemed very natural for Gyllenhall unlike Holmes
who awkwardly seemed out of place. District Attorney Harvey Dent is played by Aaron Eckhart,
and Gary Oldman plays Lieutenant Jim Gordon. The opening scene starts off with five small–time

Literary Analysis Of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn
The Everlasting Tree An American classic is a novel that has beautiful language, complex characters
that change throughout the novel and is timeless. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn does just that. Betty
Smith, author of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, wrote this novel about a young girl's coming of age
during the early 1900's. Smith wanted to publish a novel that showed the American Dream and the
struggles of being poor in America. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is considered an American classic
because of its connection to the American Dream, how the hardships of being poor prevented
attaining that dream and the impact of Francie being a woman with the injustices she faced. Betty
Smith was a German immigrant that lived in Williamsburg–Brooklyn, New York (Johnson). She was
a play writer and a novelist at a young age (Johnson) . Smith began her writing career at Ann Arbor
and her playwriting career at the Yale School of Drama (Johnson). Her move to North Carolina to
become a part of the WPA Federal Theater Project kick started her career as a play writer (Johnson).
Her novel, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, was written over a period of a few years and was based on
her own life (Johnson). As soon as it was published in 1943 it became a bestseller instantly and
many saw Smith as a major component of literacy in the 1940's (Johnson). The stress of her
overnight success put a considerable amount of pressure on her to write consimore novels
(Johnson). She settled in Chapel Hill, NC where she later

Live the Dream
Inception is a science fiction film that was directed by Christopher Nolan and co–produced by
Emma Thomas. It is about the story of how a group of "extractors" infiltrate the minds of their
targets, extracting information and planting ideas, which is called "inception." After watching this
movie, I was deeply impressed by its careful designation, the precise logic of the scenarios, its
method of narration, as well as its use of symbols through the plot. An effective storyteller always
draws the audience's attention. The narrative structure reveals the theme of the contrast and
comparison between real life and life in dreams, and the representative symbols in the movie. Some
techniques are also to be appreciated.
To analyze the narrative structure, the main plot should be introduced at the beginning. Dominick
Cobb and Arthur are "extractors" who are able to create dream scenarios that seems to be the real
world, and they are able to lead other people into the dream worlds that they build and invade their
subconscious, thereby getting valuable information. In a corporate espionage attempt, Cobb and
Arthur are commanded to steal Saito's business secret. Convinced by Cobb and Arthur's capacity,
Saito finds them and offers them a seemly impossible mission–to plant a seed in Robert Fischer's
subconscious to break up Robert's father's energy conglomerate. The remuneration for Cobb is that
his criminal record will be erased in America, which will allow him to go back

Manipulations In Memento, By Christopher Leonard And Mollo
Throughout Memento there are a multiplicity of instances in which manipulation occurs. The
audience sees a plethora of people manipulating Leonard such as Teddy, Natalie and Burt. The
audience generally associates these individuals as the main manipulators in Memento, however that
Christopher Nolan and Leonard, respectively, manipulate the audience and themselves far more than
anyone else. Leonard is seen manipulating himself several times throughout Memento. One of the
ways he does this is through his tattoos. He writes certain things on his body to influence what he
will remember such as remember Sammy Jenkins. Leonard also uses photos and writes information
on these as well as the tattoos. The color sequences begin to elude that Leonard might have mixed
motives for writing something down on a photo. Teddy eludes that Leonard is a serial killer and that
he killed the real John. G. over a year ago. "After Teddy reveals this to Leonard, Leonard purposely
alters the memory and writes down on his photo to not trust Teddy. The audience begins to realize
that Leonard alters the tattoos and photos for his own personal gain" (Vane 2) Teddy later reveals
that Leonard had taken out pages in his own file and that his wife did not die in the attack and
instead Leonard killed her with insulin shots. At this point the audience realizes the tattoo is there so
he never has to remember killing his wife again. Leonard had manipulated those memories, so he

The Dark Knight Themes
The Dark Knight – A Power Struggle
Batman, a name synonymous with the word hero. He was first introduced to the world in Detective
Comics #27 (artist Bob Kane, writer Bill Finger, 1939). He quickly became a fan favourite and has
since then seen numerous film, television, and video game adaptations. The first film adaptation
being Batman (Lambert Hillyer, 1943), a mere 4 years after his introduction in 1939. Throughout his
tenured career Batman has faced numerous villains, each of them reinforcing the themes of evil vs
good, power, and anarchy vs order. The themes are especially prevalent when Batman faces off
against his arch–rival, and foil, the Joker. In The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan, 2008) these
themes are perfectly encapsulated in the Joker interrogation scene. Almost an hour and half into the
film is when the interrogation scene takes place. The scene lasts for approximately five minutes and
is comprised of 79 cuts. In a way, the scene almost has three acts. It starts off with the Joker's
perspective of Commissioner Gordon entering the room to begin his interrogation of the Joker. The
Joker is framed to the right, while Gordon is framed to the left. From the very first shot of the scene,
the theme of power is presented. The over the shoulder shot, combined with a slight dolly in,
conveys to the audience that Joker is the one in control. As Gordon walks up we see that the Joker is
completely shrouded in darkness, with only his face being visible. This portrays the

Memento Mise En Scene Analysis
Nolan uses mise en scene to further develop the audience's understanding and view of the
protagonist, Shelby and his psychological struggles in the opening scene of Memento. Followed by
the non–linear editing, Nolan uses low key lighting to create a dark and dangerous atmosphere,
which shows Shelby as being vulnerable and in danger. However, the dim lighting suggests that
Shelby is a murderous man as he is holding the gun. This helps build tension felt by the audience by
making them want to understand who Shelby is and to learn why he has killed a man. At the start of
the film, the audience does not know his motive and become intrigued as they want to solve the
mystery as to why Shelby has committed murder. To further emphasise this, the setting is an empty,
isolated room that is low–key lit. this is immensely ominous as all the features carries connotations
of death. Shelby is wearing a suit, which suggests that the film is set in modern society. As it is set in
the modern society, it accentuates to sense of danger and the ominous feel to the audience as it is
seen as illegal and beyond convention to murder. The sense of danger is elevated by the fact that the
scene is directly after Shelby has committed murder. It shows Shelby's unperturbed facial expression
and a scratch on his cheek. The cut illustrates that he has endured some physical altercation with his
victim. Shelby's facial expression is rather confusing and rather concerning as he seems emotionless

Grows In Brooklyn
"Serene was a word you could put to Brooklyn, New York. Especially in the summer of 1912" (5), is
the famous first sentence in Betty Smith's bestseller, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn (ATGIB). Joche
says this book reads realistically because it was prepared for us not by a statistician with an array of
facts and figures, not by a sociologist presenting a carefully prepared case history, not by a
participant observer who has for a brief period lived among the group, nor by a psychologist, a
historian, or an economist, but by one who naturally combines all of these–who, herself, is a
member of the group about which she writes. (240)

despite her promiscuous reputation. Francie believes that Sissy is loose with men because of her
determination to give as much as she can to anyone. Francie adores Sissy, and Sissy's maternal
actions are the inspiration to Francie's fantasies about starting a family of her own. Sissy makes
frequent visits to the Nolan house and constantly checks on the children's well–being, just as a

Essay on How Games Have Changed from Atari to Xbox
Atari was the first commercial video game company with hits like 'break out" and "pong". For many

Summary Of Christopher Nolan's 'Evacuation Of Dunkirk'
Q. In what ways do Christopher Nolan and ________ develop the idea of causality of war in
Dunkirk and Evacuation of Dunquecue, respectively?
Within Christopher Nolan's Film Dunkirk and _______'s poem Evacuation of Dunkirk both authors
explore the causality of war. Both texts are set in the same situation and both explore the different
aspects of the evacuation of Dunkirk from two similar but different sources. They both develop the
themes of isolation, honour and hope. Specifically, Nolan uses his filmmaking style to its essence,
resulting in scenes of simple but immensely charged visual momentum. Whilst ______'s poem
connects to the reader on an emotional level, almost giving the reader a perspective of what it was
like to be a part of the historical event.
Christopher Nolan, throughout the course of his film uses a range muted colours as well as bluish
tones in order to reflect the water and the heavy machinery. Nolan uses a range of camera techniques
including close ups, mid–range, long shots as well as the most obvious overhead shots. Nolan uses
these overhead shots multiple times but especially of the soldiers distributed across a beach convey
and unnerving isolation, as it these were there last times on earth as they look as if they are alone
and deserted. Another example of how Nolan's cinematography successfully depicts the evacuation
of Dunkirk is when soldiers are found waiting for the tide in an abandoned boat. In this scene, the

Language In The Dark Knight
In the film The Dark Knight, the director Christopher Nolan uses many language features to
effectively highlight the contrast between good and evil, and that people have both good and evil
within them. One of the most significant scenes that highlights these ideas is the scene where Bane
has been knocked to the ground by Batman which crosscuts with the flashback scene of Miranda
and Bane's past.
The language features character actions, camera work and characterisation, helped me see the
contrast between good and evil, and how people have both good and evil within them, in the scene
where Batman has knocked Bane to the ground and is viciously punching him. As Batman is doing
this, Nolan has angled the camera at a low angle on Batman to make him look big, scary, ... Show

Nolan wants us the audience to see that no one is perfectly good, not even Batman because he
abuses people even though it is for a good purpose. Nolan wants us to see that not even someone as
righteously good as Batman, is perfectly good, they still have their evil flaws. Understanding this
makes us humans feel scared and aware that even friendly and nice people, like ourselves, can be as
violent and scary as Batman was.
Nolan uses the language features crosscutting, camera work, costume and symbolism to highlight
the contrast between good and evil and that people have both good and evil within them in the
flashback scene, where we see that, as a child, Miranda was saved by Bane from people who were
attacking the people in the pit she was in, Bane included. After we, the audience, see this, the scene
crosscuts to a scene of the present. Nolan uses a close up camera shot on Bane's face so that we see
the tear that rolls down his cheek. By crosscutting the scene where Bane saves Miranda, with the
close up of Bane's face, our perspective on Bane's character changes and we see the contrast
between good and evil in him. Throughout the film, Nolan had us convinced that Bane was just pure
evil,

  • 1. Fall Of Atari From 1972 to 1983, the video game giant Atari rose and fell. It fell due to a combination of factors, including bad tradeoffs, a surplus issue, and a deficiency in entrepreneurial ability. The Founder Nolan Bushnell sold Atari to the wrong company, administrators tended to overestimate their game and console demand, and finally Atari lost its founder and best programmers. With all these factors, Atari closed it's door for the final time in 1983. When Atari was created, it started off with success in merely arcade games, but the founder wanted more. The founder, Nolan Bushnell, along with his programmer Al Alcorn, created the hit Pong his Atari arcade games on June 28th, 1972. With this hit, Bushnell became ambitious, and wanted to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The company came out with two games that stood out as complete failures: Pac Man and E.T. Pac Man, a popular arcade game, was to be released in 1982 for their VCS console. It was highly anticipated, but the game did impress consumers the way they thought they would be. Atari made 12 million cartridges, but only 7 million were bought. The game that truly buried Atari was the E.T. game. They hired Steven Spielberg to create it in six weeks, when it normally took six months to make a game, so that the game would be on the shelves for Christmas. The game was horrific, most of the copies were returned by both retailers and consumers. about 2.5 to 3.5 million games were left unsold, and furthermore, 3.5 to 4.5 million games were returned. All of the copies were dumped in a New Mexico landfill never to be played again. When Atari finally decided to make a new console, it was too late, the console was nothing compared to the competitor's. With the surplus of games and consoles, Atari had lost $536 million. Finally, by 1983, Atari went bankrupt. In a landfill in New Mexico, Atari's final game still hides below a mountain of dirt. Millions of E.T. cartridges were buried, along with the company. Due to poor decision making in the company, overproduction, and lack of programming ability, Atari fell to its rising competitors in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Reflection Paper About Travel To America This year, I went on a 3–week voyage to China and returned to America with plenty of new knowledge. The following story describes it in detail. Preface: In our house, we were putting all the gifts, everyday items, etc. in our bulky suitcases. At that moment, we were ready as a family to drive to Los Angeles and fly in a plane to 北京 then domestically transfer to 西安. Well, it turns out that the process was going to be exceedingly harder than I thought. We not far–off through the road later in the car, we had to go back and check something in our house. After checking, I rested in the car, hoping nothing would go out of hand. Arriving to the massive parking lot garage, we came to park in a spot we rented. Since we could not find our parking space, we just decided to stumble upon whatever our car fits in and isn't reserved; though it took ages. We were rushing to the shuttle stop while being stressed out that we are going to miss both planes. Thankfully, a hotel manager called a taxi to arrive and drive us to the LAX international airport. Arriving, we handed over $25.00 to the taxi he requested and appeared 30 minutes before boarding. 30 mediocre minutes later, we were at the point of boarding our plane. In the plane, I was disappointed by the poor quality of the entertainment. At least it was only 12 hours and 40 minutes of the boredom. In the plane, it was difficult to lay my hands on a movie that is worth the watch. Though there were some movies and TV shows that were at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. In the Moment Essay "Time is an absurdity, an abstraction. The only thing that matters is the moment." (Nolan 12). If this is true, then in the story "Memento Mori" and the movie Memento, it is ironic how the main character, Leonard, who is suffering from severe memory loss, is constantly trying to figure out the past, even though he knows he will not remember it once he learns what has happened. His wife is dead, and he is searching through a system of notes and Polaroid pictures for her killer. Though the story is unclear at first, through narration, structure, and repetition, the plot of the story becomes clearer. The story is told in reverse order. Since the events in Memento are presented backwards, this allows the viewer to get into the mind frame of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Narration in a movie or story is what people rely on to know what is going on in the plot and what is true or false information. Without narration in a movie or story, it would make it difficult to find out who is right and who is wrong. In addition, narration is what sets the tone for a movie or story so the viewer never really questions what the narrator is saying because under normal circumstances we'd believe it to be true. Narration is supposed to make things easier for the viewer to understand, in a way it simplifies and breaks down the plot into a person's thoughts which is much easier to catch on to than figuring out the story on one's own. In order to truly enjoy the film Memento and the story "Memento Mori," it is necessary to understand the structure and order of the plot. To see how Leonard tracked down his wife's killer, the movie ends with what is, chronologically, the story's beginning. The structure of the film and story is quite unique since the facts are not presented in chronological order, or following the casual relationship. It is hard to provide a logical version of the story, since at the end of the film we realize the unreliability of the main character's recollections. From the beginning of the movie and story, we have to grasp the unusual structure of daily events and the structure of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Martin Scorsese in his 2010 film Shutter Island and Bart Layton in his 2012 documentary The Imposter incorporate conventions of the genre, film and documentary techniques, stylistic features such as narrative perspective, characterisation and camera angles to explore how people's perception of identity and the truth can be manipulated. Both texts entail a similar chronological narrative structure although in different forms, for example, Shutter Island uses dreams and flashbacks, comparatively, The Imposter uses reenactments to show the viewers events that have already happened. Shutter Island shares the story of a man shrewdly manipulated to protect him from the truth, while The Imposter investigates the way truth can be manipulated and ... Layton has targeted a wider audience as mature viewers would be more interested in documentary and factual events, although Layton was aiming to intend his documentary at a younger target audience which was intentionally High School students ranging from years 10–12. Whereas, in Shutter Island older viewers ranging from 50 to 60 may not enjoy the storyline and theme of the film. The gender of the audience viewing The Imposter and Shutter Island can be either male and female as these texts are for both genders as these texts are for any individual who enjoys mystery, wanting to problem solve and guess what will happen next. Thinkers will enjoy Shutter Island and The Imposter as these texts involve the audience to think about the concepts overall, also people who enjoy harrowing and complex films will find these texts exhilarating as they will be on edge of their seats wondering what would happen next. Narrative perspective – Technique one Scorsese and Layton both use narrative perspective and narrative structure to reveal their central ideas in a way that would leave the audience with many unanswered questions. While both texts follow a chronological structure, building the audience's belief that what they are seeing is the truth, the directors use flashbacks or reenactments, to gradually reveal parts of the plot or back–story. • 9. Heat Movie Analysis "Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner." Robert De Niro's famous line playing the criminal Niel McCauley sets the tone for Michel Mann's Heat. Mann is able to have high–octane action one would expect from a crime movie while displaying intimacy in the main characters. The combination of the two is what makes the film a crime drama (even though Michael Mann argues that it doesn't belong to a genre). That intimacy is what makes Heat memorable. Mann creates the intimacy in a number of ways: through types of shots such as close–ups and zoom–ins, the score and the soundtrack, his use of lighting, camera angles, filming locations and use of shadows among others. The utilization of close–ups and zoom–ins allows the audience to get to know the characters. It shows the wear and tear on the characters faces. We can see the pain, the hurt; we're able to feel how tired the characters are from their deep sighs and the dark circles under their eyes. Michael Mann wants the audience to become as close to the characters as possible. We are introduced to Al Pacino during a sex scene, that's about as intimate as the character–to–audience relationship can get. The intimacy is at an all– time high during the coffee shop scene in which the previously mentioned quote is taken from. Roger Ebert (1995) stated, "The scene concentrates on the truth of 'Heat', which is that these cops and robbers need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Jane Johnston Schoolcraft Analysis Jane Johnston Schoolcraft, America's first Female Native American writer and poet, exemplifies a unique multicultural influence in her writing as a result of her intermarried parents. Robert Dale Parker (2009), in his paper "Contemporary Anticolonialist Reading and the Collaborative Writing of Jane Johnston Schoolcraft," describes her controversial writings "as representing the cacophonous medley of internal contradictions that she lived in" (p.52). Specifically, that of her poem Pensive Hours, which exhibits the layered nature of her works, shown through her Anglo–American heritage (with an emphasis towards Christian) tones hidden alongside her native spirituality, establishes Jane Johnston Schoolcraft as an American poet influenced by more than English Romanticism. Michelle Esther Alexander Fankhauser (2010), identifies Schoolcraft's dual influential environment, in her paper "Booked: 'Womanhood is too Tightly Bound to Give Me Scope'" which asserts, "Schoolcraft's choice of poetry as a genre meant to be read and heard out loud is an indicator that even when working within a literate tradition, her upbringing in an oral one was never far from her mind" (p. 52–53). Schoolcraft, much like many of the early American Renaissance writers, were unable to write in isolation and consequently their works were inadequate in their entirety to be exclusively romantic pieces of literature (Parker 2009). Therefore, neither can Schoolcraft's work be singularly influenced by her Ojibwe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Importance Of Being A Manager During Times Of Success... Introduction: The following Case Analysis details the many aspects of being a manager during times of success and struggle. Ron Bent, a plant manager at Engstrom Auto Mirror plant in Indiana, implements a bonus incentive plan in order to raise morale and productivity in his company. The following analysis will demonstrate how at its inception, the plan is successful in its goals, but eventually starts to decline when a downturn hit the industry. In this paper, several recommendations will be made on whether or not the Scanlon plan should be abandoned, and strategies Ron Bent can take to increase performance at the Engstrom Auto Mirror Plant. Analysis: The Scanlon plan was introduced in the 1930's by Joseph Scanlon, an accountant and member of the Steelworkers union (2). The Scanlon plan that Engstrom used focused on cost saving and higher production, which would then increase labor savings. Adapting the plan is a long process, and Bent made sure 75% of employees were on board. Engstroms version encouraged suggestions at all levels, and encouraged input to help productivity. The plan focused on transparency of financial and business data to all ranks of the organization (2). With transparency, allowing suggestions, and an encouragement of new ideas, Bent believed that the plan would provide a source of intrinsic motivation to employees of Engstrom. As stated earlier, Bent ensured that at least 75% of his workforce agreed to the plan. By doing so, he was examining the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Auteurism In The Dark Knight Introduction Considering the collaborative process of filmmaking, especially nowadays in most film production, the concept of there being a singular creative supervisor is debatable. Nonetheless one cannot deny the existence and driving force of directional motifs and instances of thematic and stylistic elements within the work of filmmakers like Tim Burton and Alfred Hitchcock. These directors indicate that within traditions and genres lies the overall definition of an auteur: a director whose inventive traits are listed throughout his or her work like a signature. Auteurism rose to the surface in the 1950s French New Wave criticism as an appraisal of Hollywood directors who were ready to deny the rules of the studio system and create films ... While the boundaries between the softness and sharpness in Nolan's typical close up shots are clearly established, the delineation in this particular scene is obscure. • 21. Crime And Deviance In The Dark Knight By Christopher Nolan Throughout "The Dark Knight" by Christopher Nolan crime and deviance is seen throughout the film. Crime and deviance in The Dark Knight has two faces as society accepts crime for those whose are helping them and at the same time punishes those who are punished. Society in Gotham accepts crime when the Batman commits it to help for the betterment of society; however, crime is not accepted when it is committed by mob bosses, gangs, criminal cops, and most importantly through the joker. The forms of deviancy/crime which are seen throughout the film is the Labeling Approach, Human Rights Approach, and Human Diversity Approach. The Labelling Approach is a theory in which an individual's identity is determined or influenced by the terms that is used to describe or classify them, through the use of serotyping someone. This is seen within The Dark Knight when the Joker recruits those who have been labelled as mentally insane, or have been outcast by society. This makes them believe that have a sense of being within society as they start to create their own society, and those who do not follow the norms that the Joker puts into place. Through allowing the joker to recruit those who have a negative label, do to the Joker having a label himself of being a villain by both sides of society. Not being accepted by anyone, even his own, which forces him to act on such a label through committing crimes that are not even the norms of the criminal society. This behavior is being seen as a rationale by both sides of society the general public, and criminals by not allowing the Joker and his associates fit within the norms that are being set for them. This also helps society within Gotham to make sure that those with a label are not socially accepted such as those that have a mental illness, and who perform criminal acts. However, at the same time it gives the people of Gotham as a sense of power over those that have a label, and the sense that they have a position over society. Furthermore, the Human Rights Approach argues that crime occurs whenever a human right is violated, no matter of what context the crime is being committed, regardless of whether the crime was legal or not. This is seen within The Dark Knight when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Learning Team A introduces you to the two men responsible for these phenomena – Bill Gates and Nolan Bushnell. William Henry Gates III During that late 1960's and early 1970's, BASIC was one of the premier programming languages. At that time, Bill Gates and his friend Paul Allen made the commitment to learn BASIC by reading the user manuals. After seeing the magazine article, Gates contacted Ed Roberts of the MITS Company and proposed to that he write some BASIC software for the Altair. The MITS personnel were impressed with the initial work that Gates and his friends had completed and decided to meet with them to test the team's code. After a successful demonstration of the code, Gates made the decision to leave school and move to Albuquerque and work with MITS on the Altair. After the move Gates would devote his energies to Microsoft, a company that he would establish in 1975 with Allen. Guided by a belief that the computer would be a valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home, they began developing software for personal computers. Microsoft would sell its BASIC system to MITS, NCR and Intel. It proved to be more cost effective for companies to buy Microsoft software rather than spend the time and money to develop their own. In January of 1979, Gates made the decision to move Microsoft to Seattle, Washington. Gates believed that part of the country was better suited for recruiting programmers. Microsoft adopted a new standard for hiring employees; the company decided to hire only the most gifted and intelligent new college graduates rather than experienced programmers. • 37. Film Analysis Of 'The Prestige' By Christopher Nolan A suspenseful tale built on illusions and trickeries, "The Prestige" has been established as one of the most criminally underrated movies of the century. In this filmic masterpiece, director and writer Christopher Nolan, plays a magic trick on the audience and misdirects the viewers, but also hides the secret obviously in plain sight. Co–written by his brother, Jonathan Nolan, and adapted from a novel by Christopher Priest, this film is set in the nineteenth century London, and deals with an obsessive rivalry between two magicians that are willing to sacrifice everything they have to create the ultimate illusion. In this movie, Nolan leaves the audience guessing and gasping at its twists and unexpected turns, with a dauntingly brilliant script, thought provoking narration, unique cinematographic details, and a beautifully talented cast. Christopher Nolan has been acclaimed as one of the most successful filmmakers for his non–linear storytelling, labyrinthine plots, and metafictive elements, and "The Prestige" illustrates all those filmmaking styles incredibly. Some movie fanatics even view this movie as Nolan's most complex film from a narrative structure point of view. We can witness that from the very first frame of the movie. The movie begins with a shot of several hats inexplicably scattered in a forest, with a voiceover asking the audience "Are you watching closely?". Then, Cutter (Michael Caine) describes the three parts of a magic trick. "The pledge, where the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bead Game is a stop motion animated film that was created by arranging single beads into shapes lines, mammals, and mythological creatures. Further into the film the creatures absorb and devour one another, creating other figures and creatures from the remaining beads. These beads end up evolving into scenes of modern human warfare. In the beginning of the film Patel begins with on simple white bead and continues to add other beads and color– making his arrangements of the beads into animated figures. While the beads dance there is sound of percussion that compliments the movement of the beads due to the synchronization of both sound and movement in the animation. The film reminded me of the creation of life; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patel animates the theory of human evolution by showing a monkey transforming into a caveman and then into present–day human. The film is successful in synchronizing the characters towards the end of the film. Patel shows synchronization through his animating when there are two men throwing a spear at one another and the beads are arranged in a way that the two mirror each other. Another historical event that is portrayed is ancient warfare, dating all the way back to what seems to be around 2700 BCE. I began to notice a pattern or a timeline up to this point, starting with the creation of life then going through important moments of the history of human creation. I think the creator of this film is trying to say that a design can start off as something so small and simple, and then fueled by creativity the design turns into an art form. This interpretation that I have made isn't obvious; it is just something that I took away from the animation after watching it. Something that is noticeable throughout this animation is how frequent the use of red is. Patel used red for his creatures that showed characteristics of being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two problems this hospital is currently facing are dealing with financial issues and their mission statement. As finance can never be the underlying cause of an issue, only the result of an issue, this problem is cut out of the picture for now. The issue starts with employees misinterpretation of the mission statement, due to it being unclear. The mission statement was created by top management; therefore, I believe the root of the problem for Faith's Community Hospital started with top management. If employees were misinterpreting the mission statement and had to use their own code of ethics and personal beliefs, then the top management did not do their job of making all employees believe in the same idea. This can be a cultural problem, a miscommunication or not enough training, but regardless this all comes down to top management. If top management were able to train the employees to ensure each employee represented the same code of ethics and beliefs, then there would be no problem with the mission statement, which could lead to no financial issues. 2. Was the investigation of the problem the most appropriate way to do this? Is there some other things that they should have done? If so, how would you do it differently? The introductory citation by Canadian Politician Ron Johnson lays the foundation for this case assignment. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn does just that. Betty Smith, author of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, wrote this novel about a young girl's coming of age during the early 1900's. Smith wanted to publish a novel that showed the American Dream and the struggles of being poor in America. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is considered an American classic because of its connection to the American Dream, how the hardships of being poor prevented attaining that dream and the impact of Francie being a woman with the injustices she faced. Betty Smith was a German immigrant that lived in Williamsburg–Brooklyn, New York (Johnson). She was a play writer and a novelist at a young age (Johnson) . • 62. Live The Dream By Christopher Nolan And Co Produced By... Live the Dream Inception is a science fiction film that was directed by Christopher Nolan and co–produced by Emma Thomas. It is about the story of how a group of "extractors" infiltrate the minds of their targets, extracting information and planting ideas, which is called "inception." After watching this movie, I was deeply impressed by its careful designation, the precise logic of the scenarios, its method of narration, as well as its use of symbols through the plot. An effective storyteller always draws the audience's attention. The narrative structure reveals the theme of the contrast and comparison between real life and life in dreams, and the representative symbols in the movie. Some techniques are also to be appreciated. To analyze the narrative structure, the main plot should be introduced at the beginning. Dominick Cobb and Arthur are "extractors" who are able to create dream scenarios that seems to be the real world, and they are able to lead other people into the dream worlds that they build and invade their subconscious, thereby getting valuable information. In a corporate espionage attempt, Cobb and Arthur are commanded to steal Saito's business secret. Convinced by Cobb and Arthur's capacity, Saito finds them and offers them a seemly impossible mission–to plant a seed in Robert Fischer's subconscious to break up Robert's father's energy conglomerate. The remuneration for Cobb is that his criminal record will be erased in America, which will allow him to go back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The audience sees a plethora of people manipulating Leonard such as Teddy, Natalie and Burt. The audience generally associates these individuals as the main manipulators in Memento, however that Christopher Nolan and Leonard, respectively, manipulate the audience and themselves far more than anyone else. Leonard is seen manipulating himself several times throughout Memento. One of the ways he does this is through his tattoos. He writes certain things on his body to influence what he will remember such as remember Sammy Jenkins. Leonard also uses photos and writes information on these as well as the tattoos. The color sequences begin to elude that Leonard might have mixed motives for writing something down on a photo. Teddy eludes that Leonard is a serial killer and that he killed the real John. G. over a year ago. "After Teddy reveals this to Leonard, Leonard purposely alters the memory and writes down on his photo to not trust Teddy. The audience begins to realize that Leonard alters the tattoos and photos for his own personal gain" (Vane 2) Teddy later reveals that Leonard had taken out pages in his own file and that his wife did not die in the attack and instead Leonard killed her with insulin shots. At this point the audience realizes the tattoo is there so he never has to remember killing his wife again. Leonard had manipulated those memories, so he could live with himself and ... • 66. The Dark Knight Themes The Dark Knight – A Power Struggle Batman, a name synonymous with the word hero. He was first introduced to the world in Detective Comics #27 (artist Bob Kane, writer Bill Finger, 1939). He quickly became a fan favourite and has since then seen numerous film, television, and video game adaptations. The first film adaptation being Batman (Lambert Hillyer, 1943), a mere 4 years after his introduction in 1939. Throughout his tenured career Batman has faced numerous villains, each of them reinforcing the themes of evil vs good, power, and anarchy vs order. The themes are especially prevalent when Batman faces off against his arch–rival, and foil, the Joker. In The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan, 2008) these themes are perfectly encapsulated in the Joker interrogation scene. Almost an hour and half into the film is when the interrogation scene takes place. The scene lasts for approximately five minutes and is comprised of 79 cuts. In a way, the scene almost has three acts. It starts off with the Joker's perspective of Commissioner Gordon entering the room to begin his interrogation of the Joker. The Joker is framed to the right, while Gordon is framed to the left. From the very first shot of the scene, the theme of power is presented. The over the shoulder shot, combined with a slight dolly in, conveys to the audience that Joker is the one in control. • 68. Memento Mise En Scene Analysis Nolan uses mise en scene to further develop the audience's understanding and view of the protagonist, Shelby and his psychological struggles in the opening scene of Memento. Followed by the non–linear editing, Nolan uses low key lighting to create a dark and dangerous atmosphere, which shows Shelby as being vulnerable and in danger. However, the dim lighting suggests that Shelby is a murderous man as he is holding the gun. This helps build tension felt by the audience by making them want to understand who Shelby is and to learn why he has killed a man. At the start of the film, the audience does not know his motive and become intrigued as they want to solve the mystery as to why Shelby has committed murder. To further emphasise this, the setting is an empty, isolated room that is low–key lit. this is immensely ominous as all the features carries connotations of death. Shelby is wearing a suit, which suggests that the film is set in modern society. As it is set in the modern society, it accentuates to sense of danger and the ominous feel to the audience as it is seen as illegal and beyond convention to murder. The sense of danger is elevated by the fact that the scene is directly after Shelby has committed murder. It shows Shelby's unperturbed facial expression and a scratch on his cheek. The cut illustrates that he has endured some physical altercation with his victim. Shelby's facial expression is rather confusing and rather concerning as he seems emotionless after a ... Especially in the summer of 1912" (5), is the famous first sentence in Betty Smith's bestseller, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn (ATGIB). Joche says this book reads realistically because it was prepared for us not by a statistician with an array of facts and figures, not by a sociologist presenting a carefully prepared case history, not by a participant observer who has for a brief period lived among the group, nor by a psychologist, a historian, or an economist, but by one who naturally combines all of these–who, herself, is a member of the group about which she writes. (240) Betty Smith was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 1896, which helps her accurately portray the life of the Nolan's because it is similar to the one she lived. The time period in which the Nolans lived greatly impacted the plot and characters of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith through the poverty, education, and gender roles that the Nolans experienced.. For many people pong was the first video game they have ever played. In what ways do Christopher Nolan and ________ develop the idea of causality of war in Dunkirk and Evacuation of Dunquecue, respectively? Within Christopher Nolan's Film Dunkirk and _______'s poem Evacuation of Dunkirk both authors explore the causality of war. Both texts are set in the same situation and both explore the different aspects of the evacuation of Dunkirk from two similar but different sources. They both develop the themes of isolation, honour and hope. Specifically, Nolan uses his filmmaking style to its essence, resulting in scenes of simple but immensely charged visual momentum. Whilst ______'s poem connects to the reader on an emotional level, almost giving the reader a perspective of what it was like to be a part of the historical event. Christopher Nolan, throughout the course of his film uses a range muted colours as well as bluish tones in order to reflect the water and the heavy machinery. Nolan uses a range of camera techniques including close ups, mid–range, long shots as well as the most obvious overhead shots. Nolan uses these overhead shots multiple times but especially of the soldiers distributed across a beach convey and unnerving isolation, as it these were there last times on earth as they look as if they are alone and deserted. • 78. Language In The Dark Knight In the film The Dark Knight, the director Christopher Nolan uses many language features to effectively highlight the contrast between good and evil, and that people have both good and evil within them. One of the most significant scenes that highlights these ideas is the scene where Bane has been knocked to the ground by Batman which crosscuts with the flashback scene of Miranda and Bane's past. The language features character actions, camera work and characterisation, helped me see the contrast between good and evil, and how people have both good and evil within them, in the scene where Batman has knocked Bane to the ground and is viciously punching him. As Batman is doing this, Nolan has angled the camera at a low angle on Batman to make him look big, scary, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nolan wants us the audience to see that no one is perfectly good, not even Batman because he abuses people even though it is for a good purpose. Nolan wants us to see that not even someone as righteously good as Batman, is perfectly good, they still have their evil flaws. Understanding this makes us humans feel scared and aware that even friendly and nice people, like ourselves, can be as violent and scary as Batman was. Nolan uses the language features crosscutting, camera work, costume and symbolism to highlight the contrast between good and evil and that people have both good and evil within them in the flashback scene, where we see that, as a child, Miranda was saved by Bane from people who were attacking the people in the pit she was in, Bane included. After we, the audience, see this, the scene crosscuts to a scene of the present. Nolan uses a close up camera shot on Bane's face so that we see the tear that rolls down his cheek. By crosscutting the scene where Bane saves Miranda, with the close up of Bane's face, our perspective on Bane's character changes and we see the contrast between good and evil in him.
