Media Studies – Opening Scene Script
(Josh slams the car boot door down, and picks up a box full of their belongings towards the front of
the house where Emily is standing with her arms folded leant up against the door frame. As he is
carrying the heavy box walking up the path, you can see he is struggling)
Emily:Come on! It can’t be that heavy you big woos! (She says sarcastically, smiling)
(Josh lets out a loud groan as he drops the box down and they stare at each other for a moment,
smiling a great deal. Josh approaches Emily hugging her and kissing her on the cheek)
Emily: This place is amazing isn’t it?
Josh: You can say that again.
(Emily lets go of hugging him after a moment, and she goes and picks up a camera from on top of a
cabinet. She unintentionally turns the camera on while handling it)-Camera shot switches to the
perspective of the handheld camera until the end of the scene.
Emily: I’m gonna go charge the camera so we can start filming around the new house tomorrow.
Josh: Okay, Love
(Emily begins walking up the stairs)
Josh: Oh Emily! Can you take this last box up too please?
Emily:Yeah sure
(Emily Walks back down, places the camera on top of the box and proceeds to take the box upstairs
while Josh walks into another room in the house downstairs. As she walks up the stairs we can see
the image on her camera recording still. You can hear her heavy breathing, she walks past two doors.
In the first room there is nothing unusual. Then when she walks past the next, we see a little girl - in a
white night gown, hair covering her entire face and bare footed.)
(She walks into her bedroom and put the camera on charge on a shelf which has both herself and the
hallway in sight. She begins to unpack the box, when she comes across what seems to be a small box
which she stares at for quite a while. At this point she is standing blocking the view of the hallway,
and as she moves slightly, the same little girl appears out of nowhere behind her. Emily is facing in
the opposite direction, facing towards the camera so is completely oblivious)
Josh: Emily comes have a look at this! Bring the camera! (Josh Shouts from downstairs)
(Emily stares at the box for a little while longer. She then exaggeratingly exhales, and closes the box
sliding it underneath her bed. She walks towards the camera about to pick it up with the little girl still
standing behind her. She approaches the camera blocking its view fully attempting to turn it on)
Emily:Oh it’s already on (She whispers to herself)
(As she unplugs the turns around with the camera nobody is there and she continues to walk out of
the room and downstairs)
