THE VISITOR – SCRIPT<br />BY NICOLE, SHAMILLA, SHANA AND SHEHLA<br />FADE IN:<br />EXT: NON-DIAGTEIC SOUND: CHILD’S LULLABY IMMEDIATELY STARTS PLAYINGEstablishing shot opens the scene of a suburban street, scanning the road from dusk to night.  (This is shown through a fast cutting rate when editing takes place)<br />A close-up of the street sign is then taken<br />Establishing shot continues to reveal lights going off in houses (rooms upstairs) as if children in different houses along the road are going to sleep.EXT: JUMP SHOT – reveals a woman seated at the top of a bus in a black coat with her hood up.  (Seated next to a window)<br />Window should be steamy due to condensation or have rain marks on it so that the woman’s face is not exposed through the camera.   From what we see of the figure, the woman should look scary and intimidating.  EXT: JUMP SHOT - The camera zooms (smoothly from the previous tracking shot of lights in the houses going off) into the window of the child’s room.<br />INT: MEDIUM SHOT – displays a female character (the au pair) tucking the child into bed. <br />POINT OF VIEW SHOT (from the child) – exposes the child minder smiling down on him.<br />EXT: JUMP SHOT – back to woman on the bus.  In her hand, she holds a print out from Google maps with the address of the house, in which the child and au pair are in, clearly visible to the camera.  The camera then ZOOMS IN on the address. <br />INT: JUMP SHOT – reveals the au pair leaving the child’s room (shutting door) and walking into her room. <br />MEDIUM SHOT – of child minder lighting candles<br />CLOSE UP – individual close-ups of A CANDLE, A GLASS OF WINE and A PEN.  <br />EXT: JUMP SHOT – back to the woman on the bus.  Along with the map, she now has a pen out marking her route to the house.  <br />INT: PANNING SHOT – of girl’s room.  We see her seated, sketching a portrait of the child.  Her room is quite arty and full of family pictures and other artistic creations.  <br />EXT: JUMP SHOT – we see the woman get off the bus (over the road shot), the bus continues to drive past her as we see her figure remain.  <br />INT: JUMP SHOT - back to the au pair in the house who still remains sketching.  <br />EXT: JUMP SHOT – back to hooded woman, who is now walking to the house (handy cam – jilty effect) <br />INT: The au pair gets up to check on the child.  He is sound asleep.<br />There is a close up shot of her turning the handle to his room EXT: CLOSE UP – of the street sign (similar to what is shown at the beginning) TRACKING SHOT – woman walks past the camera (side view) and continues to walk down the road.CLOSE UP – of the woman’s feet walking<br />INT: Au pair goes back to her room, where we see her pick up a book (a sketchbook/art book) <br />CLOSE UP -  of the closed bookShe (the au pair) opens the book and sticks in the sketch of the boy that she drew.<br />She flicks back a few pages in the book and reveals pictures of her and the family together. (Seems to be a normal family picture/memory book)We then see the girl pick up a pen (fine ball point [black]) and start labelling the pictures (such as: trip to the beach)<br />EXT: JUMP SHOT – the woman is now further up the street and it is clear that the house is in sight.  <br />LONG SHOT – of the house is shown with a light on (in the room belonging to the child minder)INT: JUMP SHOT – back to au pair, we see her continue to ‘write’ but this time it seems more intense (pressing harder on her pen and writing harder) [the actor is actually scribbling out the faces of the family members in the photos but leaving herself fully visible]<br />EXT: The woman gets to the outside of the front door<br />Displayed through CLOSE UPS – we see her feet stand on the step

INT: NON DIAGETIC SOUND: CHILD’S LULLABY MUSIC ENDSAu pair abruptly turns around when she hears keys in the door and looks TERRIFIED.<br />EXTREME CLOSE UP – of the au pair’s horrified eyes The child minder runs to the top of the stairs<br />INT: The camera cuts to a MEDIUM SHOT of the door opening (from the inside – camera is inside)<br />The woman steps into the house and takes her hood down, revealing that she is a normal person (in fact, as seen in the pictures stuck in the family album, the child’s mother)<br />MOTHER: Mummy’s Home<br />INT: The screen cuts to a close up of the child minder’s desk where the book is open.  On the images that she had previously stuck in, the faces of the family had been intensely scribbled out.<br />
