1. In what way does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media
products?
My media product which is a teaser trailer challenges the conventions of a
real teaser trailer because it contains a number of elements which
associate with a real teaser trailer you would see in this day and age. For
example, from the beginning to the end there is continuous editing which
keeps the flow of the trailer moving and it constantly builds the story
which the viewers will hopefully be able to identify. This will engage well
with the audience as they will be able to understand the concept of our
story which gives them a sense of realism along the way. Also, our teaser
trailer's genre is thriller and action which can relate well with an real
teaser trailer of that genre as it is mainly composed of fast pace editing
where you will see the characters always being on the move. This unravels
the plot of the trailer encouraging the audience to carry on watching as it
builds suspense and drama along the way.
2. What have you learned from your audience
feedback?
However, we had some positive feedback as the audience loved the soundtrack
we used which fitted in well with our trailer as they understood what type of
genre our teaser trailer was. The audience also loved couple of our shots which
were fast pace which kept the audience engaged with our trailer as they
revealed they wanted to carry on watching it, to see how it would end.
What I mainly learned for our audience feedback was that it was too short. The
reason why it was too short is because we filmed our scenes quite late due to
technical issues which got in the way with our work. The audience mainly
highlighted that point as well as getting confused whether or not our task was a
trailer or music video. I could see how they got confused with that because our
teaser trailer had a hip-hop soundtrack in the background which sounded like it
was going to be a music video. We also had few scenes of our characters in the
background utilizing our film's story-line but the audience got confused thinking
that they were artists instead.
3. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, Planning and
evaluation stages?
The media technologies we used in the construction and research was premier pro,
primary secondary research which was the audience research for our teaser trailer,
photo-shop and survey monkey for task 15.
We mainly used premier pro for the editing process of our teaser trailer, as I mainly
helped editing in terms of pre-production process and the idea of our teaser trailer.
In terms of planning, I developed our concept for our teaser trailer as we all had an idea
in mind of what kind of story-line we wanted and eventually we just agreed with each
other's ideas. All the ideas put forward fitted seemingly well when we brought it all
together and then we pitched it into one and from there on, I developed the character’s
names and their background fitting the idea of our story.
In terms of media technologies, I used you-tube when researching similar teaser trailers
to our genre which helped shape our ideas more as we had inspirations from a lot of
teaser trailers we saw. For example we used ‘Shank’ as a primary teaser trailer for
inspiration as we mainly looked at the cinematic visuals and plot of that trailer which
we further developed into our task. I also used ‘Survey Monkey’ when creating the
questionnaire for the feedback of our task. Finally I used a I-phone voice recorder with
the software audacity for narration as I helped narrate for our trailer and used Word-
press when publishing our work in our blog.
4. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
The combination of our main product and ancillary text is effective because they
both compliment each other well in terms of style, objectives, and essentially our
theme. Our main product which is the teaser trailer has an urban style attached to
it with an dark and confusion fragment which suited well as we were trying to
portray a story of betrayal and friendship. This fits in well with our ancillary texts
because the 1st poster is seen as dark and gloomy which portrays our antagonist
well revealing his true colours as the story goes on in the main product.
The Second poster climaxes the divided friendship between both characters as
there is a line between their faces showing the binary oppositions of ‘Good vs Evil’
and ‘Hero vs Villian’. This poster is effective towards the end of our teaser trailer
when showing the betrayal of the antagonist and how people change because of
the circumstance and feelings the antagonist had. This poster also has a dark edge
to it as it mainly embarks on how jealousy and envy ruined the so-long friendship
between both characters which leads to the antagonist revealing his true as he
couldn’t put their differences aside leaving them being against each other.
