Exam pattern
1. STATE ELIGIBILITY TEST (SET)
The UGC has authorized the state governments or
the state agencies on behalf of the state
governments to conduct the state eligibility test.
Candidates who qualify in the Test are eligible to
apply for the post of lecture within the jurisdiction
of the Member State of this SLET commission.
They will be given a pass –certificate and the
validity period of certificate is forever.
2. EXAM PATTERN
•The SET will be conducted in a objective mode from 2015
onwards.
•The Test will consists of three papers. To evaluate the
General Aptitude of the candidates, there will be one
common paper (Paper-I) for all and it will contain 60
questions of 2 marks each, and the candidates will have to
answer to 50 questions only.
•The second and the third paper will be on the subject
concerned. The second paper will have 50 compulsory
questions of 2 marks each. For third paper, there will be
75 compulsory questions of 2 marks each.
3. • There shall be two paper of the SET exam.
• Paper I is common for all candidates. It consists of two
parts, Part (A) General knowledge and Part (B) Aptitude in
Teaching.
• Paper II shall be a test based on the subject of
specialisation of the candidate at the Post Graduate (PG)
Level.
SCHEME OF THE TEST
4. Duration:
• The duration of the Test shall be 120
minutes for each paper.
Number of questions and marks
• Paper I: There shall be 120 questions for Paper I
with 60 questions each for Part A and Part B.
Each question shall carry one mark.
• Paper II :There shall be 120 questions carrying
one mark each for the subjects under Paper II
except for Mathematics and Statistics.

6. QUALIFICATION
•The candidates who have completed/ appearing in their
Master Degree in Physics/Electronics/ Atomic & Molecular
Physics/ Classical Dynamics/ Condensed matter
Physics/Electromagnetic/ Experimental Design/ Nuclear,
Space & Particle Physics/ Quantum Physics/ Thermodynamics,
Astronomy, Astrophysics and other related subjects can take
SET examination under “Physical Science”.
7. •The candidates who have completed/ appearing in their
Master Degree in Pure Mathematics/ statistics/ Applied
Mathematics, Mathematics with computer science &
other related subjects can take SET examination under
“Mathematical Science”.
8. •The candidates who have completed/ appearing in their
Master’s Degree in Chemistry/ Chemical sciences/
Analytical Chemistry/ Inorganic Chemistry/ Organic
Chemistry/Physical Chemistry/ Medicinal Chemistry/

9. •The candidates who have completed/ appearing in their

Animal biology/ Marine Biology/ Applied Genetics & other
related subjects can take SET examination under “Life
Science”.
10. •The candidates who have completed/ appearing in their
Master’s Degree in Geology/ Geo-physics/ Meteorology/
Oceonography/ Physical Geography/ Earth Science/ Earth
Science Resource maNAGEMENT/ Marine Geology/ Petroleum
Geology/ Geo-informatics/ GIS/ applied Geochemistry/
Geography & other related subjects can take SET examination
under “Earth Science”.
•The Candidates who have completed their masters Degree or
equivalent degree in related subjects of Economics, History and
Management can also take SET examination
11. •Candidates who are appearing (Final year) in their
masters Degree examination can also apply for SET.
•Those postgraduate students who have passed post
graduate examination in more than one subjects can
appear for SET examination only in one subject at a time
12. AGE LIMIT AND NUMBER OF CHANCES

• There is no age limit.
•A candidate can avail any number of chances.
13. National Eligibility Test (NET)
•University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts National
Eligibility Test (NET) every year.
•It is conducted determine eligibility entrants for lectureship or
to award Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
•The candidates can also appear for both at the same time.
•Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), conducts
UGC-CSIR NET for certain Science subjects like Life Sciences,
Physical Sciences and Chemical Sciences etc.
•The real aim of conducting NET exam is to ensure that only
qualified professionals with minimum standards are getting in
to teaching profession and research.
•It is conducted twice a year i.e. during the month of June and
December.
•The notification regarding the exam will be p0ublished through
leading newspapers during March and September respectively.
14. Structure and Pattern of NET exam
•For both lectureship and JRF and JRF same question paper is
prepared by UGC. It constitutes subjects as follows;
Paper I- Objective type-General Knowledge, current affairs,
Reasoning ability and Quantitative Methods (50 questions)- 100
Marks
Paper II- Objective type-Core subject –(50 questions)- 100
Marks
Part III- Descriptive type-Core subject will have four sections.
Section 1 5X5=25 Marks (30 Words)
Section 2 15X5=75 Marks (30 Words)
Section 3 5X12=60 Marks (200 Words) and
Section 4 1X40=40 Marks (1000 Words)
Grand Total = 400 marks
15. •Paper I & II constitutes the first half. It is conducted during
day time
•Paper II, the next half is conducted after noon.
•There is no negative marking for objective questions.

16. CSIR UGC Subjects
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
conducts the UGC-CSIR NET for Science subjects, namely,
•Life Sciences,
• Physical Sciences,
• Chemical Sciences,
•Mathematical Sciences
•Earth Atmospheric Ocean and Planetary Sciences jointly
with the UGC.
17. Qualification Criteria for NET exam
•The Candidates must completed Post Graduation in the
desired subject.
•They must have secured Masters Degree with a minimum of
55% from any reputed college under UGC recognition.
•The candidates appearing for last semester exam can even
attend NET exam.
•Candidates who qualify NET are eligible to be appointed as
lecturer in universities/ colleges any where in India
18. AGE LIMIT
•Thirty five years in the maximum age limit
•The candidates appearing for JRF should not be above 28
years of age
•There is relaxation of 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST
candidates,
19. APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR NET EXAM
• The candidates have to apply online before the specific date
announced by UGC
• 2 printouts of filled in online application form, exam
attendance slip and admission card at the respective centers
(with fee receipt and category certificate(s) are the
documents required for applying to this exam.
• Application fee: The candidates belonging to the general
category are required to pay an application fee of Rs. 600.
those belonging to the OBC category should pay Rs. 300 and
those belonging to the SC/ST/PwD category are required to
pay only Rs. 150.
20. KERALA TEACHERS ELIGIBILITY TEST (KTET)
•The Government of Kerala will conduct Kerala Teachers Eligibility
Test (KTET) as known as Kerala TET.
•The RTE Act 2009 directs the States to ensure the quality
requirement for recruitment of teachers.
•The persons recruited as teachers should possess the essential
aptitude and ability to meet the challenges of teaching at all
levels of schooling
•Teacher Eligibility Test conducted in the Kerala will hereafter be
known as Kerala Teachers Eligibility Test (KTET).
•KTET is the examination to access the eligibility of teacher
candidates for Lower Primary, Upper Primary and High School
Classes in Kerala
•Separate test are conducted to select teachers for Category I
(Lower Primary classes), Category II (Upper Primary classes) and
Category III (High School classes).
•The conduct of the examination in entrusted with Pareeksha
Bhavan Kerala.
21. KTET Eligibility and qualification
•Lower Primary Classes: Higher Secondary/ Senior
Secondary and Trained Teachers’ Certificate/ Diploma in
Elementary Education/ Diploma in education.

26. Application Fee for KTET
•General Category candidates need to pay application fee
of Rs 500
•SC/ST just have to pay application fee of Rs 250
27. Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET)
•In accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section
23 of the RTE Act, the National Council for Teacher Education
(NCTE) vide Notification dated 23
rd
August, 2010 and 29

JULY,
2011 laid down the minimum qualifications for a person to be
eligible for appointment as a teacher for class I to VIII.
•It had been inter alia provided that one of the essential
qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a
teacher in any of the schools referred to in Clause (n) of section
2 of the RTE Act is that he/she should pass the Teacher Eligibility
Test (TET) which will be conducted by the appropriate
Government in accordance with the Guidelines framed by the
NCTE.
•he rationale for including the TET as a minimum qualification
for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher is as
under:

quality in the recruitment process;
It would induce teacher education institutions and students
from these institutions to further improve their
performance standards;
It would send a positive signal to all stakeholders that the
Government lays special emphasis on teacher quality.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of
India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting
the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central
Board of Secondary Education Delhi.
29. Eligibility Criteria
The following persons are eligible for appearing in the CTET.
Minimum Qualifications for becoming Teacher for Classes
I-V: Primary Stage
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and
passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary
Education (by whatever name known)
OR
•Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and
passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary
Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the
NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002.
30. OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and
passed or appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor of Elementary
Education (B.El.Ed). OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and
passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Education
(Special Education)*. OR
Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of two year
Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).
31. Minimum Qualifications for becoming Teacher for Classes VI-
VIII:
Elementary Stage
Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year
Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).
OR
Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in
1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed). OR
Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in
1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the
NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued
from time to time in this regard.

Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and

Note:
(i)Relaxation up to 5% in the qualifying marks in the minimum
Educational Qualification for eligibility shall be allowed to the
candidates belonging to reserved categories, such as
SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled.
33. Qualifying Marks And Award Of CTET
Certificate
•The candidates appearing in CTET will be issued Marks
Statement. The Candidates securing 60% and above marks
will be issued Eligibility Certificate.
• (a) School Managements (Government, Local bodies,
Government aided and unaided) may consider giving
concessions to person belonging to SC/ST, OBC, differently
abled persons, etc., in accordance with their extant
reservation policy.
• (b) Qualifying the CTET would not confer a right on any
person for recruitment/employment as it is only one of the
eligibility criteria for appointment.

36. APPLICABILITY
I. The CTET shall apply to schools of the Central
Government (KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools,
etc.) and schools under the administrative control of
UT’s of Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman &
Diu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep
and NCT of Delhi.
II. CTET may also apply to the unaided private schools,
who may exercise the option of considering the
CTET.
III. Schools owned and managed by the State
Government/local bodies and aided schools shall
consider the TET conducted by the State
Government.

38. State Level Eligibility Test (SLET)
•The full Form SLET is State Level Eligibility Test .
•SLET test is performed for the appointment for the post of
lecturers in various state universities and colleges.
•This test is conducted by different universities in the state
like Tamil Nadu (TN), Andhra Pradesh (A.P), Himachal Pradesh
(H.P), Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh (UP),
West Bengal (WB), Gujarat and other states.

39. •Like every year this year also State Level Eligibility
Test (SLET/SET) is conducted in English in all states in India
and in some universities.
•Every year all states conducted SET Entrance Exam one by
one. State Eligibility Test is mandatory for all those
candidates who want to get lectureship.
•The candidates who qualify the SLET Test 2017 are
eligible to apply for the post Lecture/ Assistant professors
•SLET Exam Date differs for each state.
40. Eligibility Criteria
Educational qualification
•Post Graduation/Master’s Degree with minimum 55%
marks for General and 50% for SC/ST are Eligible.
•Students who have appeared or will be appearing at the
qualifying PG (final year) Examination or whose result is still
awaited or candidates whose qualifying exams have been
delayed, may also apply for this SLET Entrance Exam.

41. The SLET Exam Pattern consists of 3 papers i.e. Paper I,
Paper II and Paper III.
The examination is conducted in one day with 2 shifts
allotted for the three papers.
All the questions in the three set will consists of objective
type multiple choice questions, Matching, Assertion and
Reasoning, True/ False etc.
Paper 1 consists of 60 multiple choice questions of 2
marks each will be given out of which the candidates
would be required to answer any 50 .
Paper 2 consists of 50 objective type compulsory
questions based on the subject selected by the
candidates, each questions will carry 2 marks.
