scholarship program for identifying and encouraging the
scientific aptitude in students. Students studying in XI
standard to 1st year of any undergraduate program in basic
sciences are selected based on performance in Aptitude test
and interview.
18. Fellowship and
contingency grant
Fellowship and contingency grant are offered from 1st year
of graduation up to pre-Ph.D. level or 5 years (whichever is
earlier). Monthly Stipend of Rs. 5,000/- and Annual
Contingency Grant of Rs. 20,000/- are granted during 1st to

next 2 year
19. Eligibility Criteria
• The fellowship of the students appearing for KVPY will
be activated only if they join an undergraduate course in
Basic Sciences, that is, B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int.
M.Sc./M.S. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics,
Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology,

Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences,
Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human
Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics,
Geophysics, Materials Science or Environmental Science
20. Streams
• Based on the performance in Aptitude Test, short-listed
students are called for interview. Further, the merit list is
prepared on 75% weight-age for Aptitude Test marks and
25% weight-age for the interview. Aptitude exam can be
given at three levels:
21. Stream SA
• Stream SA: Students studying in Standard XI can appear
for SA provided they must score a minimum of 80%
marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects
in Standard X.
22. Stream SX
• Stream SX: Students studying in Standard XII can appear
for SX provided they have scored a minimum of 80%
marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects
in Standard X and must score a minimum of 60% marks
in aggregate in Science subjects
(Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in standard XII.
23. Stream SB
• Stream SB: Students studying in 1st year of
undergraduate programme can appear for SB provided
they have scored a minimum of 80% marks in aggregate
in Mathematics and Science subjects in Standard X, a
minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in Science subjects
(Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in standard XII and must
score a minimum of 60% marks in 1st year final
examination.
24. Exam Pattern
• KVPY is a multiple choice questions based exam of total 100
marks. It constitutes of 2 parts – I & II, each containing 4
sections – Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Paper I contains 20 questions whereas Paper II contains 10
questions in each section. In the Stream-SA, all questions are
compulsory (Science and Mathematics). In respect of the
streams SB and SX, there will be four sections in Part I
(Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) and four
sections in Part II (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and
Mathematics). Candidates are allowed to answer any THREE
of the four subjects in Part I and any TWO of the four subjects
in Part II.
