2. • ATTRACTING OUR AUDIENCE WOULD BE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS WE WOULD HAVE TO DO
THROUGHOUT OUR FILM. WE FEEL THAT OUR AUDIENCE WOULD WATCH OUR FILM FOR THE SUSPENSE AND
TENSION THAT HAS ARISEN FROM THE BEGINNING OF OUR FILM. FOR THE FIRST MINUTE AND A HALF OF
OUR FILM, ALL THAT IS SHOWN IS A MAN WALKING TOWARDS A ROOM. HOWEVER DURING THIS OPENING
THERE ARE SOME CLUES TO WHAT HAS HAPPENED AND WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. AN EXAMPLE OF THIS
WOULD HAVE BEEN THE CONSTANT RINGING OF THE KEYS. WE PURPOSELY ADDED THIS AS IT WAS A
SOUND MOTIVE FOR OUR ANTAGONIST’S PRESENCE WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN USED THROUGHOUT THE
REST OF THE FILM. THIS RINGING WOULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED AS UNCOMFORTABLE AND EDGING TO THE
AUDIENCE WHICH WOULD FULFIL THEIR DESIRE FOR THIS FEELING AND EMOTION. A SECTION OF OUR
AUDIENCE WOULD ALSO GAIN THE FEELING OF ‘SCHADENFREUDE’. THIS IS WHERE OUR AUDIENCE GAINS
PLEASURE AND JOY WHEN SEEING THE MISFORTUNE OF OTHERS. IN OUR CASE SOME OF OUR VIEWERS
WOULD ENJOY TO WATCH EMILY SUFFER DURING OUR FILM AS THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE PAYING TO WATCH.
THIS WOULD ALLOW OUR AUDIENCE TO ESCAPE FROM THEIR DAILY MEANS AND EVERYDAY LIFE.
3. • THE ENIGMA PRESENTED DURING OUR FILM CAN BE SHOWN THROUGH THE NON-DIEGETIC MUSIC BEING
PLAYED IN THE BACKGROUND. THIS MUSIC WOULD BE DESCRIBED AS AMBIENT AND VERY SUBTLE.
WITHOUT ANY MUSIC, THERE WOULD BE LITTLE EMOTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH OUR FILM AS I WOULD
SIMPLY BE A MAN WALKING. THE ECHO’S THROUGHOUT THE MUSIC REPRESENTS THE EMPTINESS WITHIN
THE GIRL AS SHE IS TRAUMATISED BY WHAT IS HAPPENING TO HER. THE BEATING SOUND WITHIN THE
MUSIC ALSO REPRESENTS THE GIRLS BEATING HEART LEADING UP TO HER CONFRONTATION WITH THE
ANTAGONIST. THE MUSIC ALSO ADDS A SENSE OF MYSTERY TO THE NARRATIVE AND THAT ENIGMA WHICH
IS BREWING UP WITHIN THE MINDS OF OUR AUDIENCE AS THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO
HAPPEN.
4. • THIS SUBJECT OF ENIGMA IS CARRIED THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE FILM RIGHT UNTIL THE END WHERE
YOU ARE ABLE TO TELL THAT THE VICTIM IS IN FACT A SCHOOL GIRL AND HER KIDNAPPER WAS HER
TEACHER. THE QUESTION OF ‘WHAT KIND OF TEACHER WOULD DO THIS?’ WOULD BE BOMBARDING THE
AUDIENCE’S THOUGHTS. THIS IS ALSO EFFECTIVE TO THE AUDIENCE AS A MAJORITY OF THEM WOULD STILL
BE IN SCHOOL WHERE THEY SEE AND ASSOCIATE WITH TEACHERS DURING THEIR EVERYDAY LIFE. THIS
WOULD HAVE A LARGE IMPACT ON THEM AS THIS COUNTERTYPE OF A TEACHER WOULD ENHANCE THEIR
DOUBT ABOUT THEIR TEACHERS.
5. • THE IDEA OF OUR ANTAGONIST HAVING A PSYCHOPATHIC PROBLEM WITH THEM BELIEVING THAT WHAT
THEY’RE DOING IS IN THE NAME OF GOD, WOULD ALLOW MEMBERS OF OUR AUDIENCE TO RELATE BACK TO
OTHER FILMS SUCH AS SE7EN. THE IDEA OF PEOPLE HAVING PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS IS USUAL
HOWEVER, BY HAVING ONE WHICH SEES THEM KILLING OTHER PEOPLE WITHOUT EMOTION IS NOT THE
NORM. OUR FILM GOES AGAINST WHAT SOCIETY BELIEVES TO BE NORMAL AND RIGHTEOUS THROUGH THE
IDEA OF A PSYCHOPATHIC KILLER WHO TARGETS INNOCENT SCHOOL GIRLS. THIS ATTRACTS AUDIENCES
AS THEY’D BE CURIOUS AND OPEN TO FINDING OUT WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE REMAINDER OF OUR FILM.
