2. IN OUR THRILLER 'RAGE' WE DECIDED TO TRY AND APPEAL TO A CERTAIN
AUDIENCE, WHICH IS CRUCIAL TO DO IN THE BEGINNING OF A THRILLER AS THAT
IS WHAT WILL MAKE SURE THAT THE AUDIENCE STAY TO WATCH THE REST OF THE
FILM.
THE WAY WE WANTED TO ATTRACT THEM WAS BY HAVING OUR THRILLER RATED
A 12, IN THIS WAY WE COULD HAVE A WHOLE RANGE OF TEENAGERS FROM EACH
EACH PART OF THE SPECTRUM (12 – 19) COULD WATCH THIS THRILLER AND
ENJOY IT.
3. GENDER
WE HAD TO THINK OF DIFFERENT ASPECTS THAT WE COULD USE IN ORDER TO
MAINTAIN THE AUDIENCES ATTRACTION.
AS OUR THRILLER OPENING DID NOT HAVE A SPECIFIC GENDER TO ATTRACT, WE
DECIDED TO INCLUDE BOTH GENDERS INTO OUR THRILLER OPENING, WE HAD MORE
FEMALES THAN MALES IN OUR THRILLER OPENING AS MORE FEMALES WERE AVAILABLE
FOR THIS ROLE, BUT WE HAD TO MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE A MALE IN ORDER TO
ATTRACT BOTH GENDERS FOR OUR THRILLER OPENING.
TO EMPHASISE AND ATTRACT MALE AUDIENCE MEMBERS WE WERE SURE TO PICK A
VERY MASCULINE MALE WHO WAS BUILT. THIS WAY IT WAS EASY TO ATTRACT MALE
AUDIENCE MEMBERS.
4. SOUND
• WE SPENT A LOT OF TIME FINDING AND EDITING IN VERY EERIE MUSIC TO MAKE
THE THRILLER VERY CREEPY AND TENSE AS WE ARE AWARE THAT TEENAGERS
LIKE THE SENSE OF NOT KNOWING WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT.
• WE ALSO USED MUSIC TO TELL THE AUDIENCE WHEN THERE WAS A SENSE OF
REALISATION FOR THE CARETAKER WHEN HE REALISED THAT THE STUDENTS
WERE IN A ROOM WITH EASY ACCESS SO HE COULD GO THERE AND TAKE THEM
ONE BY ONE.
5. • OUR FILM STARTS AT A SCENE HERE IT IS CLEAR SOMETHING HAD HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY
BEFORE THE FILM EVEN BEGAN, AND THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MISSING FROM THE
BEGINNING. THIS CREATES CURIOSITY WITHIN THE AUDIENCE WHICH KEEPS THEM WATCHING
TO SEE WHAT HAPPEN NEXT.
• THROUGHOUT THE FILM, ROLES AND CHARACTERS START TO BECOME CLEAR.
• IN ADDITION TO THIS, WE MADE SURE THE FILM WAS SLIGHTLY CONFUSING AS USUALLY THE
BEGINNING OF THRILLER FILMS TENDS TO BE MORE VAGUE IN THE STORYLINE SO THIS KEEPS
PEOPLE WATCHING.
• OUR MAIN CHARACTER ACTS OUT OF ANGER SO SOME AUDIENCE MEMBERS MAY BE ABLE TO
RELATE TO THIS BUT NOT TO EXTREME MEASURES., HOWEVER THE ANTAGONIST (CARETAKER)
ACTS OUT IN A WAY THAT WOULD AFFECT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE AUDIENCE AND
ACTOR.
6. KEY MOMENTS
• A KEY MOMENT WAS WHEN THE FEMALE STUDENTS CAME INTO THE SCENES.
THE REASON WHY THIS WAS A KEY MOMENT WAS BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT
IT LEAD THE AUDIENCE TO QUESTION WHY AND HOW THEY ARE SIGNIFICANT.
THEY SOON FIND THIS OUT AS THIS IS UNRAVELLED DURING THE OPENING AND
WE SEE WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE QUICK CUTS.
7. • ANOTHER KEY SCENE THAT WE USED TO ATTRACT THE AUDIENCES ATTENTION
WAS USING CLOSE UP SHOTS AND LONG SHOTS, WHICH SHOWS WHEN THE
CARETAKER (ANTAGONIST) IS CLEARLY THINKING ABOUT SOMETHING AND
CALMING HIMSELF DOWN. THIS IS A KEY MOMENT AS WE CAN SEE THAT THE
CARETAKER IS DISTRESSED AND SHOULD NOT BE AT SCHOOL WORKING, SO THIS
LEADS THE AUDIENCE TO THINK ABOUT WHAT LEAD THE CARETAKER TO DO
SUCH A THING.
• IN ADDITION TO THIS IT WILL LOOK LIKE THE ANTAGONIST HAS A GUILTY
CONSCIENCE.
8. • ANOTHER KEY MOMENT THAT ATTRACTED THE AUDIENCES ATTENTION WAS
WHEN THERE WAS AN ALTERNATING SHOT BETWEEN THE ANTAGONIST AND THE
STUDENTS. WE SHOWED THE ANTAGONIST LOOKING IN AND A POINT OF VIEW
SHOT OF THE WAY THE ANTAGONIST IS LOOKING AT THE STUDENTS.
• THIS IS A KEY MOMENT AS IT SHOWS THE FACT THAT THE STUDENTS WILL HAVE
HAVE KEY SIGNIFICANCE IN THE FOLLOWING SCENES.
