The Purge evaluation 1

1. The title suits the genre because the word “Purge” means
getting rid of someone’s of their unwanted feelings,
memory, or condition.
This film is about the people’s urges of committing crime
and only one night every year, all crimes are legal so
people can do what ever they want.

2. This location is typical of the a thriller genre because the
location is very isolated and also empty so suspense and
mystery is shown within these frames.

3. These frames show typical props
used in thriller genre because
weapons symbolises violence and
destruction.

4. There are varieties of shots in the
opening scene of the purge. Editor
has used mid – shots, long shots and
birds eye view.

5. The editor used CCTV camera for the
frames in the opening scene. The
CCTV camera is mainly used to watch
people’s behaviour so using it on the
opening shows the chaos on the
street and also showing what people
are doing.

6. The titles are very small which might mean
that the titles are not very important and
that the audience are more focused on the
scenes throughout the title sequence.

7. These frames gives the audience of a
clue in the storyline of the film would
be. The frames shows violence and
chaos in the street so the audience
would think the this film is going to
be about crime.

8. For the opening of the purge, characters are not introduced but
these frames can relate on what characters would for example;
the characters would hide for their won safety so they will not be
affected with all the conflict.

9. The editor used jump cuts to show
different scenes which is typical in a
thriller genre because it builds up
suspense and tension.
