2. This opening shot is effective. Noir features such as dark/chiaroscuro lighting. The blurring of the shot
combined with the effect on top gives a sense of uncertainty and mystery.
3. This is one of the first shots in the trailer, immediately giving a clear
narrative which is very effective and makes the trailer easy to follow by
the audience.
4. This is an effective shot looking down on the protagonist – maybe referring
to his low status?
5. These shots show the film has violent/action involved – could be to target a younger
audience.
They also act as enigma codes and help to intrigue the audience into the plot of the film - we can see here
that the protagonist is in danger, making the audience what to know why? What did he do? Who is he in
trouble with? Encouraging the audience to watch the film to find out what happens.
6. This close up is showing a clue to the plot – also acting
as an enigma code.
7. This shows there is violence and danger in the plot. The dark
lighting is a convention of Noir.
11. There are themes of romance and sexual relationships running
through the plot - another key convention of noir.
I think the black background of this shot is very interesting,
representing something as dangerous and unknown.
