1. Evaluation question
3
What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
2. Photoshop
O Photoshop played a big part in the creation of
my magazine as all the images had to be
edited, effects had to be edited such as ink
splats and text had to be eroded and the
colour changed. I had used Photoshop before
in GCSE Media Studies, but I think my skills
have improved greatly since then as I have
learnt to use the airbrushing tool, to remove
the backgrounds of images quickly and easily
using the magic wand and eraser tools and
adding effects such as paint splats and
erosion using the paintbrush tools which I
think all contribute to giving my magazine a
professional look.
3. Camera
O I used a Fujifilm digital camera to take all
of my images so I had to learn how to
adjust the settings on the camera to suit
the shooting conditions, I also used a
variety of different backgrounds and
lighting as different locations had to be
used for different models. I also used a
video camera to film audience feedback
which I then had to transfer onto a Mac
computer.
4. Final Cut Pro
O I used this to transfer and edit my videos
so that they were suitable to put on my
blog, I learnt to cut unwanted pieces of
film out and add text and transitions to the
film.
5. YouTube
O I also learnt how to use the popular media
networking site YouTube as I had to open
an account in order to post my video onto
my blog.
6. Microsoft Publisher
O I used Microsoft Publisher to create my
magazine on as I had used this at GCSE
and was confident in using it, I found it
easy to use as you can set the pages up
into single pages and double page
spreads which really helped in the overall
production of the magazine as I could
easily flick between pages to check the
continuity of the magazine.
7. Blogger.com
O I used this website for my blog as I found
it quite easy and simple to use which
allowed me to post my coursework quickly
without having to spend a lot of time
editing and changing the positioning and
look of the blog.
8. The internet
O for my research I found the internet useful
as it gave me access to a wide range of
different magazines and allowed me to
compare several covers of the same
magazine for example rather than just
one. However I did find it hard as using
sites like Google and Bing you get such a
large amount of data it is tricky to find the
useful stuff.
9. SlideShare
O this site allowed me to present my work in
a more interesting way, which shows how
I have learnt more about technologies, I
had never used this before but I thought it
was quite effective at showing my work in
an interactive way.
10. Survey Monkey
O I found Survey Monkey really helpful when
it came to conducting audience research
for both my school magazine and my
music magazine. The website was quite
easy to use and allowed me to quickly
create a survey which I could then email
to people. I found this a lot easier than
other methods such as paper or interview
and found that I got a lot more responses
overall.
