2. Why have you chosen this idea and where did you
get it?
I came across this idea after having a look on google for big news events
that have occurred in the last 20 years.
The bombings took place on July 7th 2005, so our project would be made in
time for the 10th year anniversary.
I have chosen this because we would be able to find a lot of witnesses and
as we live locally it would be easier and cheaper than going somewhere
halfway across the country to gather footage and information. This also
means we would be able to make more than one trip if we needed more
information.
A lot of people were emotionally effected by this event, either from shock,
injuries or losing family members, therefore I feel a lot of people would
want to view our webpage.
Make it more about the people, so spend more time interviewing people and
listening to their personal experiences to make it more emotional, rather
than having just the same news coverage. This would attract more viewers.
3. Ideas
Inspired by Snowfall, we could include a creative piece of writing for a
more emotional effect. We could do this by interviewing hospital workers
who could describe the scene in the hospital that day.
Include a Google Maps image where the exact locations of the four
bombs are pointed out and when people click on each location it takes
them to a separate page where they’ll find details on each one.
We won’t have our own footage from the bombings, therefore we could
use somebody else’s and then instead film interviews with the people
involved or film around London.
As it was quite a big story we would need to find a different angle to take
it from because we don’t want something a lot of people have seen
before. Maybe talk about what has changed in London since and what
precautions the government has taken since to avoid things like this
happening again.
4. Design
• Aim to create a Tumblr styled webpage, so that
it would be suitable for mobiles as well as
computers.
Lots of images and not too much text.
Same colour palette throughout so it’s like a
running theme.
5. Case studies
• Dummy Webpage
- Snowfall: single story multi-media site. Beautiful graphics, but too much text. Like the
idea of writing a creative piece as well as newsy pieces.
-Firestorm: Like how it’s written in ‘Chapters’ and a good balance of images and text.
-Daft Punk: Lots of moving image and text over moving image. This makes the site
much more exciting and fun to look at.
6. Second Idea
Children of World War two.
Came across this idea because in 2015 it will be the 70th anniversary of the end of
World War two.
There has already been a lot of coverage on this, therefore I thought we could focus the
angle on people who experienced this event as children.
Audience would vary from people of all ages, would also encourage older people to use
the internet.
Interview witnesses on their horror stories and losses to make it visual and emotional.
Could use news stories and archives from the time it happened.
Discuss what has changed in Britain and around the world since the war ended.
7. Ideas
Interview doctors and nurses from the time.
Interview older people who were children at the time.
Use old footage and create new footage to compare and
contrast them to see what has changed.
Visit places were people were evacuated.
Visit grave yards and memorial sites.
Visit Victoria Country Park in Hamble where the remains
of the hospital where Florence Nightingale worked.
