November “Using Vokis Dr. Vokis are computer-generated, animated characters
that you can create to spice up your teaching in any
9 to breathe Ross- subject area, and they work quite well for any grade
fresh life Fisher level. You can make your Voki fit your own
into your personality, and you can give it your voice. They are
teaching!” easy to do, and you can use them in your classroom as
long as you have internet access. A great new
teaching and learning tool—and best of all, FREE!!!
We will meet in the Adobe Classroom so that you can

November “Genre Kylee Most, if not all states require students to learn about
the various genres in literature. I found that most of
18 Passports” Epps, the students in my host teacher's second grade class
WGU really struggled with this concept. To help the students
student understand the differences between the genres and
create incentive for the students to read books outside
of their comfort zone I created a two part
lesson/activity. Day one includes a slide show and a
group discussion covering the elements of each genre
followed. At the end of group discussion, students are
divided into cooperative learning groups to conduct a
book sort. Day two includes a brief description of the
purpose of a passport and ends with an activity which
has the students assembling their own Genre Passport.
For the teleconference, I will provide copies of the slide
show as well as describe the steps I took to create and
implement Genre Passports in our classroom. What is
great about this activity is that it can easily be
modified for any classroom or any grade.
